View Full Version : SC BW types of play
In my opionion there is 2 kinds of play
1) Agrresive
2) Defensive/Countering
Which do u prefer and i feel that these will differ with each race, when i use Zerg i like to play aggresive and get men out real quick for the rush, then the hydra's.
Protoss could be played either way aggresive and defence
Terran are a pretty defencive race but when the get the workshop up they get real aggresive lol
Well thats what i think i may be a noob but i really like playing the game and seeing what yous think of this dripple lol

First post, boo hoo! I don't think a real defensive approach to Starcraft could be considered a playing style as it will lose most of the time. Basically you won't attack enemy expansions and will be reluctant yourself to expand. Which will probably lose.

you should always try to be in control of the game.
i hate it when people say 'its normal in tvp' that toss has one expo more then you have.
you should ALWAYS try to outexpo the toss, even if it doesnt work, but settling on a situation that is in youre disadvantage is completely retarded.
same thing goes for pvz, another so called 'passive' matchup, you should try to control what the zerg does, not the other way around, altho its ten times easier for the zerg to control you.

As you said, I think a big difference lies in each race. I primarily play Protoss, and I play agressive with them. This has been interesting, because I've developed an agressive style and I play agressively with Zerg which is good. When I play Terran, I try to be offensive and it doesn't work out too well.
I agree with what you are saying, but I think the game's balanced enough so that all races can be both equally defensive / agressive. I've had Terrans who've ripped through my base, and played with Zerg who wasted me with a great counter.

2pv1t. I was the 1 terran player. I set spider mines at my choke point, I made little defense (bunkers or turrets). I used infantry and mech. Man, I made like 20 spider mines, they attacked me together with Dark Templars and a load of goons. All the dark Templars died and all the dragoons died, I only like lost 1 vulture on that. They keep attacking me, I keep placing mines, the same thing keeps happening lol. It's funny how dumb they were. Eventually I siege tank drop, destroyed an expo, and damaged a base...
Sorry If I bore you with my useless yacking.
I guess Defensive/Countering did a major impact other games too. So that’s the one that I think works best for a Terran player.

That right and thats what i love about this game, although i still feel that an aggresive P V an aggresive T The P would win.
Although if the T went Defensively with vultures/mines and tanks/seige mode (like the pros do)
The T would properly win.
But in my time on Bnet i havent really seen any Aggresive early terran like M&M attacking and maybe some bats.
Do T even rush anymore or do they all jump to the workshops?

Well, I wouldn't say defensive play is the same as countering play. Let's take the way I play TvZ. I would say it's an aggressive-defensive style because many times the zerg will have a countering style. When I move out to be aggressive and attack the zerg, I always make sure I can't be easily countered by putting up defenses right when I begin my aggression. For example, if he's gone lurk tech I'll put down 2-3 bunkers at my expo's choke once my offensive force is out on the prowl. If he's gone mutas I'll make sure I have turrets and maybe a bunker near my minerals before I move out. If it's early in the game, I'll just use a firebat/medic combo at my ramp so I don't get countered by lings. This way I can be aggressive and put pressure on the zerg without losing to a counter.
The best defence is to Attack! so...
Attack! Attack and Attack!
