(April 13, 2004) - Microsoft issued a set of four security updates to fix various remote code execution vulnerabilities in various versions of Windows. More info (http://www.microsoft.com/security/security_bulletins/200404_windows.asp).

You guys better install these Windows Updates or I'm gonna hax you through the web site :)
Seriously, everyone should keep his/her computer up-to-date and free of viruses. I'm sick of getting email spam and port-scan attempts from infected computers on the net. Whenever I look up the IP address, it's always some poor sap on a cable modem who has no clue that his computer was 0wned.
Do your part for the good of the 'net. Get your computer-newbie friends to keep up with patches.
Hah, but there's nothing that cracks me up more than the dozens of virus-full spam I get that can't even affect my computer.. hehe. ;)
Seriously though, I agree. Any person who refuses to update their computer to the latest security updates, etc is just being dumb.

Heh, AJ, I remember when I was like that.
Then, after a lifetime of dedication to macs, I switched to windows. Worst mistake ever >.<. I'm so sad now, I do not like windows at all. I can't wait to get back to macs in... (checks watch) oh... about 3 years :(. I won't have enough money for a new computer for a while....
As for me, the virus updates are installed on my computer automatically, so I don't really have to worry about it (although I approve the updates first).
BTW, Edgewize, are you really a hacker? Just wondering.
Oh yes -- Edge the l33t. ;)
Hehe.

Well, all of the spyware programs I've downloaded are either pay-to-go or BS. Then the virus scanners have gotten to be the same, except that when I try scanning with them, it normally will freeze up (feel the love, 64 RAM).
Any suggestions on free, working with Windows XP (don't laugh... XP and 64 Rams O.-), spyware and virus killers?

God... I will not do anything with this computer hardware wise ever again. We are getting 2 really, really 1337 computer (Windows XP ^^ -looks at AJ-) with.. isn't 1,024 megs 1 Gig?... of RAM. Yea! I don't remember the processor we're getting, but I will be sure to recomment that --- I am bad on computer names. Used to remember them --- G4 video card, is it not? We have a good amount of money saved up for our two new desktops for the introduction of, FINALLY!!, cable to my home. After a good 5 years of horrid, yet extremely memrable, dial-up memories, I will upgrade to the broadband community. -^--^-

UPDATE:
One of the patches in the update I mentioned fixes an exploit in lsass.exe. The exploit is easy to take advantage of and has led to a new worm known as "sasser" which has the potential to reach the proportions that blaster did if users do not patch their systems. All Windows NT/2000/XP/2003 Users should download the patch with the fix in Security Bulletin MS04-11 (http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/MS04-011.mspx) or by running Windows Update.
You should always check Microsoft's Security Bulletins (http://www.microsoft.com/security/security_bulletins/) occasionally to download any new patches, especially anyone who uses Windows 2000 or XP and is not behind a firewall.

AVG > Avast, just as Avast uses up so many system resources.

Spybot Search and Destroy (for Spyware): http://www.safer-networking.org/
Adware (for Spyware): http://www.lavasoftusa.com/

Question with the update however, would anyone know why after installing the updates your computer would not enter into windows at all? I get to the screen that has windows loading, with the green bar and then freezes, cannot enter into safe mode either. The only reason I'm able to work is through use last known good configuration, but I'm stumped. Ideas for what I should do?

Ha! I have Win98 so I don't have to worry about Sasser. Just goes to show ya...
Edit: Damn, I've been gone for a while, sorry if you are hellbent against revivals. But I like my post :)
I honestly don't know how anyone could prefer W98 over Win 2K/XP.

if you have an older pc 98 would be the better way to go.

Yeah Tim, I can only run 3.1 on my 486 because I'm too poor to get a new computer.

Try Booting from your original Win CdROM and repair the installation.
Did you do a bunch of updates together or one by one.....if you did one by one then you could pinpoint the last one that made your computer non-compliant...
I don't know if the updates stay when you select the "Last known good configuration" but if they do then go to control panel then Add/remove programs then right at the bottom there will be a list of all the updates that can be removed....
Again it would be helpful to know which update is causing the conflict....
(I'm assuming you have Win XP?)
EDIT: Sometimes this also happens (ie getting to the windows loading and not stg) with a conflict with the RAM...perhaps one of the updates is causing that..(don't know which updates you did so i can't be too sure)..try replacing your ram with someone's elses and see.
