Hi guys I am new to warcraft3. Here's a game I've just played. Can anyone give me some advice on improving my game play?

Welcome to the WC3 section. Sanity tends to get left at the door. That aside, I'll give you some pointers briefly.

1. Even if it means losing a lot, playing online is preferable to playing against Computers. You'll get a good idea of what strategies people use and even if you have stats of 0-10 you'll still learn more.

2. You need to creep more - you stood outside your opponents base for some time, when you could have been levelling up your Archmage. High level heroes are a huge part of this game. Heck, most of any anti-Undead strategy revolves around stopping the Death Knight from levelling by stopping him creeping.

3. I know you play a lot of SC. WC is far more micro based, so you need to work on positioning (which I though was okay, but could do with some improvement - make sure Foots are attacking Archers and Rifles attacking Huntresses etc.) and micro. If you have a damaged unit, pull it back and heal at a later time.

4. Water Elementals are a better first skill for the Archmage. Blizzard is generally used when harrassing, whereas Water Elementals are an all purpose ability that is just like having 3 (you can spam them with Brilliance Aura) extra units at a time.

5. Regeneration scrolls get dispelled when the unit gets attacked. Anything which says 'Non-Combat Consumable' in the item description will be dispelled as soon as the unit takes damage.

That's all I can think of at the moment. Hope you continue playing and maybe we'll see you online eventually! For Human specific tips I suggest you ask Prozerran, because he's the best Human-only player on this board IMO, maybe Fazant too.

Ahh...that's why my healing stave keep getting dispelled...I spent half the time thinking that all creeps can dispell.

I'd really like to go online. One reason for me to play warcraft is that I can't go online(my university network forbid any point to point connection apart from stream) so I'm stuck with computers. I can't even beat a computer, how can I beat a player online?

I chose blizzard in that game because I was planning on pressuring the NE when I found out that it's near me.

My friend told me that water elemental are good, but since they deal piercing damage it's going to get reduced to 65%, where blizzard will deal damage regardless of their armor. Elune's grace reduces the damage a bit, but it only takes off 20% of them, so blizzard *should* hurt more.

Also night elf tier 1 units are archers and huntress. Archers have a tendency to cluster together so they can focus fire, and AoE like blizzard would have an easy hurting them all together.

Footmen completely demolish archers(normal damage versus light armor=extra damage, while piercing does not have any bonus versus heavy armor) The footmen can deal massive damage against the archers and keep them away from my AM.
(I'm not sure if I have missed out anything with makes water elemental *still* better than blizzard in that situation, but I did put a lot of thinking into it and feel that blizzard was better)

I don't creep enough, that's for real...still not used to the leveling up system in W3...However the reason I sood outside the NE base was that I was waiting for their army to leave their base, so I can enter it, setup my formation and force them to come back to save their base. And when I have my formation setup they will be at a disadvantage since they're rushing back. Also I timed my attack so that they will be as close to the creep they're creeping, and possibly getting attacked by them. If my timing is right(which is crap now), the NE would get hit by the creep, forced to retreat to base, and get sandwiched between me and the creep.(obviously it didn't work...I suck)

I still havn't decided what race I'm going to be...Later I'll attatch a replay for each of my race and can you help me decide what race I use?

Thanks for the props there Redrag. Comments for you sir.

Redrag covered most of what I wanted to say about Water Elementals and unit control. So, I'll try to hone in on some of the other things I noticed.

Your build order is shaky. It takes some work to get a good build order working, but this is the general format for whatever build you intend to use. Alter, Barracks, Three Farms. What most people tend to do from there varies from player to player. For rushing especially, you need the control early.
You were right on for researching defend against archers. However, you never used it. You must select all of your foots (or the ones you wish to attack with) and hit 'd' for defend. This slows their movement speed, but then archers start taking damage every so often from deflected attacks. It's one of the strongest upgrades for Human.
On battle.net, you'll find NE players particularly going straight to Huntresses. Massing Footmen is fine, but don't think that will save you if your opponent starts making a second Ancient of War. Harassing with your scouting peasant was good. This was your first game?
Generally, you want to upgrade your hall at 210 lumber, regardless of the strategy. This ensures that even if your rush succeeds, you still have the capability to stick in the game if it doesn't. NE have moonwells, and good players use them frequently and strategically to suit their needs.
A DH is the typical starting hero, not the Keeper. This means you'll need your arcane vault sooner for potions to keep your mana regen rate up. Don't wait too long to build it.
I like your rush, I don't like what I believe NE will do to it, even at lower levels. Once you come across a player that knows a thing or two, you'll find yourself thinking ahead a bit more up the tech tree. Mortar Teams are excellent. Priests are great. Also realize that Breakers aren't really needed unless you're seeing Bears. At that point, massing casters from your Sanctum(s) is game-winning.
I laughed at one point when you killed off a footman. I couldn't figure out why you did that, but keep in mind that running them back to base is a better use of the resources. Go back to base, grab a scroll, use it, grab your low-hp footman, and get back in there.
This strategy begs the use of towers from your vault. Grab three or so and train an MK. Make sure if you're using towers that you build a lumber mill before or shortly after you upgrade your town hall.
Check the replay section for more human replays. I've posted some from my collection of high level tournament players that might help you understand how to play the various match-ups and get you up and running playing Human.
I hope I've been of some help. PM me if you'd like any additional comments on your games. And always get help from these other guys. They've all got great approaches to playing the game, even if they don't prefer to play Human. Welcome to Warboards.

Here are a few tips:
Practice. Make an practice account. Play 1 v 1 games over, and over and over again. Dont be alarmed or ashamed when you lose. % and level doesnt matter when your just practicing. Dont play with comps. It will completly fuck you up, so once you start practicing with comps and go to play online, you will lose.

Few factors of wc3:
1. Builds
:unit combos, heros, buildings, etc.

2. Micro
: ability to control your units. (eg: pulling units back before they die, moving to more strategic position, etc.)

3. Practice & Kowledge
: dont be ashamed when you lose. check out the guide at www.blizzard.com/wc3x and read the guides. Practice will teach you the basic & advanced tips, tricks, and stats you will need to know.

4. 6th sense
: 6th is when you can guess whats going around the map without having to physicaly see it. (eg: hero timing). Hardest to "get".

Thanks for all the advice.
Erm...I killed the footman because I believe it's going to be killed and I don't want to give the NE experience...I think. Or maybe I simply need population.

However I have a few questions:
Why three farms not two?

Where can I find proper build orders?

Why upgrade town hall at 210 wood?

Thanks for all the advice! Can I have your e-mail so I can ask you more futher questions in the the future?

Like I said, private message me. It's just like email, only it's self-contained on this site. If I post my email here, I'll just end up getting spam in my email account (which I also use in running my business), so click the "pm" button above my name and leave messages there.
