View Full Version : How to make obs mode?

Not that I couldnt figure it out with 20 mins or so of scanning and testing about with the editors.
I figured someone here might know. How could I make an obs like on the WCG and PGT maps.
Would it be as simple as not having a defeat trigger? I wonder.
The idea is to use Map Revealers. Just open StarForge and go to Tools -> Map Revealers. This option will let you make the entire map visible for your Obs players.
Another way to do this is to make a share vision trigger:
Players:
All non-Obs players
Conditions:
Always
Actions:
Execute AI script 'Turn ON Shared Vision for Obs-Player 1'.
Execute AI script 'Turn ON Shared Vision for Obs-Player 2'.
etc
This would work similarly to how sharing a vision would be manually done in a melee map, except automatically.
Now, I'm just wondering... wouldn't have you gotten your answer faster if you just used that 20 minutes?

Exactly what AqoTropper said, let me just explain what the triggers do. The "Turn ON Shared Vision" works like checking the " share vision" option in the alliance menu, but little different.
If you want player 8 to see player 1 you would make this:
PLAYERS
- Player 8
CONIDITION
- Always
ACTION
- Run AI script 'Turn on vision for player 1'
The first time I did this, I got it mixed up. Anyways, placing a hundred map revealers is nice to see the whole map, but it would put too much spirits in the map.

And alliances. You don't want the obs to be pinging where each player's forces and warning the target players when the observer was only telling a fellow observer where to look. Of course, that's pretty minimalistic compared to the basic purpose of an obs map. And preserve the sharing visions. If you don't trust the players, that is.

A few things.
I suppose I should have explained myself slightly better.
I only wanted to know how to make them exist within the game, not how to reveal a map. I also did not need triggers and how they work explained to me -.-". Although you may not know me I used to be a popular map maker back in the day. Then everything fell apart and I simply stopped posting. You could say im a pro.
To Aqo, No, it didnt. I actually had it down about 2 hours afterwards when I decided to give it a go.
I suppose its my fault for not explaining who I was and what I really needed. Thank you for your help anyway.

That's a contradiction. You can't be a pro and not know how to add players to the game; seriously, being a newcomer to mapping is nothing to be ashamed of, you don't need to create background for yourself to get better answers.

You mean you got your answer?
(If not, all you need to do in order to add obs players to the map is to add additional players, by placing a Start Location for them. In the Player Settings menu, make sure these players are human controlled. In Scenario > Forces, created a force called "Observers" or so, and drag the obs players into the force.)

Well, I got the answer that I used after I did it, I suppose. About being a pro, yes, im a pro, you cant take that away from me ;). After about 2 hours and no reply, I had a go at it, and it all worked out fine.
I can add a player, and do many more things, ok? I was just posting here to make sure, rather than test and all that since I was tired.
I did say I should have explained myself more.
Right...
Well than, Mr. Pro, can you play the map that is attached below and tell how was it made? (take note that there's only 1 location in that map)?

I've got no beef with you Aqo, nor do I need to prove anything to do. I would likely download that and actually play it were I still affiliated with sc.org, let alone wbs.
And just as I swooped in an unknown, im out again, to remain unknown yet hated as a veteran on Wbs.
Cya aqo.
Right.
As far as I know, beef is cooked meat.
Have fun mapping! :)
