Are attack & defense upgrades (excluding other upgrades eg: pulverize) worth their cost? The attack upgrades ony add a few dps.
definitly needed, you will see big difference if u r against the same race with similar micro skill.
but I think upgrade evverything upto tier 2 is enough. from there u pump out different tier 2 unit.
generally I upgrade defence first then attack, more defence for your unit they will b harder to die, longer fighting time
I don't recommend ppl try to fast teach and upgrade unit to tier 3 attack and defence,
from my experience the game should have normally ended at tier 2 with all the upgrades.

There's some sort of rule of thumb concerning which armour and attack upgrades you should get based on what your opponent has, but I can't recall it right now - I'll get back to you on that one.
IMO, attack and defense upgrades are useful, but not immediately. After you've spent enough money getting an army of, say, 70 or 80 food, attack and defense upgrades add DPS and reduce your opponent's DPS for not just one unit, but that whole army.

Does armor rating reduce spell damage?

Does armor rating reduce spell damage?
I was always under the impression that hero armour reduced spell damage, while non-Hero (Hero type armour) units took the damage that it says - what would seem to make sense.

Really? I heard in a Audio commentray that they reduced damage and then length of polymorph etc
The way i look at it is the upgrades don't do alot to the units but when u hav groups of units attacking it can realy add up especialy on rifelmen.

Upgrading armor has no effect on spell strength, duration, or anything else regarding spells, period. The first person to argue will be made the fool. Recall that things such as Critical Strike, Bash, poison damages, etc. are considered physical attacks that are magically enhanced and thus are not spells in the purest sense.
Second, your weapon/armor upgrades are highly dependent on what you're running. If you've got a squad of flying machines and you're going up against a squad of ugly looking destroyers, upgrades are YES and YES. You take extra damage from them so you get added benefit from armor, and you deal extra damage to them, so you get an added benefit from a weapon upgrade.
Also, think about your strategy. Going for the tower/tanks? Get those attack upgrades to level those buildings faster. Going for mass gryph/priest vs. Orcs? Armor upgrade--get that mother for the bats then add Inner Fire to make it sick.
Generally you get the armor/attack upgrades either at food caps (50/80) or you get them when you've maxed out your production and are still getting resources faster than you can spend them.

I don't see much of a point for human armor upgrades unless your going priest/air. Since orcs depend on chainwave to do dmg anyways.

Armor upgrades aren't as useful as attack upgrades ESPECIALLY for Undead (my race o choice) and human the two classes where people tend to mass tier 1 units the most. Mass ghouls or necro/wagons receive a huge buff from that extra tiny bit of atk power because there are SO many units dealing the damage. Where as massing something like Tauren/Mountain Giants, isn't as useful because you have less units dealing the same +dmg.
In the end though, that extra little bit of armor can make the difference between a win or a loss. It all boils down to how much cash you've managed to stockpile and the gameplay of you and your opponent.

Getting 1/1 compared to 2/2 or 3/3 provides the best ratio of upgrade to price.
My advice is to at least get 1/1, if you aren't going heavy on upgrades.

1/1 is ordinary but if you're attacking units and have a preferable attack type, upgrade attack further, and likewise if you have a bad defense type, upgrade armour further. It's all situational.

well, it depends who your playing with,if a guy has his units upgraded to the max then you should do the same to be evenly match,if the has little or no upgrades then you should try getting your upgrade a bit higher than his, then throw more units to overpower him to be able to kick his ass with less difficulty.
that would be my strategy to not spend too much ressourses
that's my key to that :lock:
hope that help's. :_papple:

Get armor/attack upgrades when you have the extra resources or when you've reached the food limit.
