I always, or almost always, credit the original more than it's 'sucessors' because of the orginality factor. But on that case, I'd say that they're pretty darn close to one another, although each on it's own niche. ;)
Only in small exceptions I liked the cover better (i.e., "Watching by the bell tower" for one example).
