Sandbox!

This is just a little experimental thread. Personally, I screw around a lot in Photoshop and spit out a lot of unpublished things. Digital doodles, I guess you could call them. This is a thread for such things. Small 'doodles' you do in Photoshop that arent 'finalized' work... meaningless things: post them here. Or even regular doodles. Or, small blurbs of thought. As long as it isnt spam. Depending on the success or lack thereof, I might trash it. I figure its worth a shot.

I have a lot of stuff like this.

I watched the dark gray machinery move in its rhythmic patterns. A short metal arm, extending from below the machine, would shoot up, revealing a shiny silver piston inside, as it spewed steam from small holes located on the convex surface of the piston. When one arm reached the end of its piston, the one behind it would instantly shoot up, while the one in front of it began to recede. Once the last arm receded, the first one would shoot up again. This pattern continued endlessly.

There were eight of these arms attached to the machine, four on the side I could see, and four on the opposite side. Each one on one side was connected to the respective one on the other side, some how or another. I knew this because I could see steam from the other side rise up at the same time steam on this side did.

The noise generated by the release of the steam was quite recognizable. At first, you noticed a high pitched squeal, just like any other, but behind that sound was a very low pitched vibrating noise. Each of the four pairs pistons had a different frequency by which they sounded. The frequency got slower the further back you went, leaving the fourth piston only enough time to make four pulses of sound, whereas the first one had about twenty pulses.

I rather enjoyed the sounds. It reminded me of when I was younger and listened to a lot of techno and trance music. As each of the four pistons descended and the frequencies collided, I began to zone out into them. How melodic they were.

No I just changed the colours for that one, the bar beside it shows what colours it used to have in comparison to what it does have. It's the least edited one there.

Unfourtunatly the only 100% original ones there are the guns and the leaf, other then that they're all just heavily edited. Especially the Naga Sadow sprite on the bottom left. I think the Gundam colour change was actually my first edited sprite... and I've been doing larger and larger edits as I go so I'm working my way up to making my own original sprites :D

This is something I have done, its a cross between Starcraft and ZebraGirl. Practically a gir gets turned into a Demon and trys to get back to normal.. saw the similarities between Kerrigan and her and decided to do a fanart on her.

What do you guys think?

experimentation with old methods.


as for the circle one.. i just took the outline of a square and rotated it until i had a 180 spin effect (at each turn stage) then spread it out and duplicated it so i had a larger square shape... then just lots of filters.. duplicated blurs on overlay etc .. ;<

so make fancy brush patterns.. then after you think you're done, duplicate the layer and run some filters through it. change the blending mode

For the bottom i used a grunge brush which turned out smoother, but for the top two I used a "night sky" brush all with the smudge tool. Beware, for slow computers it takes forever for the smudge to load.

Basically all I did was take stock photos and play around with the smudge tool, but I got nice effects.

The only thing I dislike is the text, if it were smaller and to the lower right and in a more techier font it would look much better in my opinion. The image itself is just awesome though O.o.

I did this just yesterday. I added stuff to Sonata, the first sprite I made, such as aiming and duelwielding. Also, He had a MM8 styled health bar, but I changed to fit with the bittage he's in.

Well your background is pretty nice lookin' :)
And the Kerrigan standing on the top of the Overmind looks amusing in ways :P
Best thing I like about it though is the Luminosity stroke/outer glow around the text, really blends in well.
I would maybe however, set the starcraft unit images to overlay so they set into the background and bold out the text a little more, for some good effect :)

For a first try it's not bad; I think a second added onto the time delay for the text would work wonders, I was rushing to finish it a few times. I also think the CD image (I think that's what that is) could be incorporated a little better then looking bluntly copy + paste. Some contrast would also be nice between the font / background (by this I mean the black font over the black cloud render thing (forgot what it's called :\ ) ).

Eh, text could use some altering, it has this nice absract/artistic background then there is a pixely (ha ha) text, lightning, and heart in the middle... and blue generally isn't considered a 'doom' color. Gloomy, perhaps... if it's dark. But this says happy/abstract then has some text thrown on top of it :/
