civilization 2 problems

I got civilization 2 a while ago, and I can't run it! I got it to work on my old 98, but it won't run on my XP! It says there is some sort of error in IR41.dll. This is a fun game and it is inconvenient to run on my 98. Someone help.

if you have the money, id suggest getting civ4.
but with civ2, most XP problems with me have been with the video codec it uses, resolved with starting the game without the CD inside ( -> no cinematics). i cant recall about the exact error, but maybe you have the same problem?

Well, the Civ' 2 that I got from Abandonia (http://www.abandonia.com/index2.php) worked just dandy in my Windows 2K OS and since they aren't that much apart it's my bet that you'll need to find the missing file (or codec). I did so for a couple of missing *.dll's in my OS with Google and it worked super (1st result looks promising, but just don't forget to check their OS version as well) (http://www.google.pt/search?hl=en&q=IR41.dll&btnG=Search). ;)
Btw, I also have the K-Lite Basic Codec Pack (http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_Lite_Codec_Pack.htm) that Neo advised a while back and it fulfills all my viewing needs. If that's your issue anyway, like Seal stated.
