Welcome to the Intellectual Roundtable (IR), the following are a few important rules/guidelines to follow while using this particular forum.
I. Overall Forum Rules Still Apply
The overall Warboard's rules still apply here. There is to be no spamming, no flaming and no advertising. This is a global rule, and will be enforced here.
II. Personal Attacks
Users are not to intentionally post with another user's personal beliefs at root. Nor are any comments stated in this forum meant to be taken as such.
If users continually post inappropriately, they will be removed.
III. Rude, Offensive, or Lewd Behavior (Flaming)
Rude, or Offensive language will not be tolerated here; especially when Flaming other users for whatever reason. If you violate this rule, your posts will be subject to deletion, or editing. If you do not wish for your post to be edited, or worse, deleted, then be mature and reasonable. Calling someone names isn't going to help your "side".
Freedom of Speech certainly does not apply here either. While it may be one thing to discuss a curse word, or the history behind so called "bad words" they will not be tolerated here either. Stereotypical words, or hateful words, or phrases, will also like wise not be tolerated, and will be dealt with harshly and quickly.
IV. Spamming and Trolling
We will not tolerate even the smallest amount of spam. This is a major issue, and you would do well to follow it. You may not post comments that amount to nonsense, or promote, generate or "trolling" other users. Those who ignore this will be banned.
V. Final Say
The staff has the final say in any argument that may arise between members, or about a certain topic. If a Staff Member has closed a thread, or deleted or edited posts, it is not your place to argue with them. If a thread has degenerated into pond scum, then it will be closed. And chances are it will not be re-opened. So making in issue of it is pointless. If you believe that a Staff Member has acted wrongly, then feel free to let us know. You may even feel free to use the Notification Button that is located even on a Staff Member's post.
VI. IR Guidelines
While it may not seem so, IR is a forum for serious debates, and discussion on topics. As such it is a good idea to research the topic you wish to debate. If you have taken debate classes, then follow the same guidelines here as you would in those classes.
Debating, or even just discussing, does not amount to single or double line posting. You should be thoroughly informed about a topic you wish to participate in, facts are worth more then "Well I believe that...". Posts that amount to nothing more then "I agree" or "I don't agree" will not be tolerated. If you wish to offer your support, make a post that is meaningful, or expands on a previous point you believe is important. Also it is generally not a good idea to repeat someone else's ideas unless you are using it as support to add to your own ideas, discussing it, or feel that it pertains to your post in some way. Don't simply repeat something that has already been posted.
The Edit button IS your friend. Say Hi! to it, and learn to use it. It is never ok to double post here, or for that matter, anywhere else. Use the Edit button if you wish to add something to your post. Your post count does not matter here. It is how you present yourself and your arguments.
VII. Articles, Blog Entries, News Stories...
No posting and running. Give an opinion, your slant, anything in regards to what you're posting. Simply posting a news story and no context or direction is not conducive to fostering discussion. Avoid it.
A good rule to follow when posting something like this is to not post the entire article, unless you have to subscribe to the originating source, or if it is small. Posting huge long articles is not going to make people read them.
It is also a great idea to take a few excerpts from the longer ones to show what it’s about. It is also not cool to just post an article or a link to an article while your own contribution amounts to something akin to "What are you thoughts" or "This is interesting" or "I agree". Review the article, or blog entry if you feel it is important enough for us to know or discuss.
