Ok, yet again I have another question for my humble hosts all around kewl peeps...

This time (yes its about my film again) I need to find some way to fund the darn thing o_O. I can sell things in my house (which I have an excess of I assure you) on ebay for some quick cash, or I could go get a job at the local Taco Bell or McDonalds but I have been told the McDonalds is the worst possible choice, I dunno why... the only thing I could think of that would make the job crappy is if; The people there are jerks, The machinery keeps breaking down, the grease in the air from the french fry machines makes my face breakout. I can try to ignore the jerks there, and I could try to wash my face more... dunno what I can do about borken machinery though... Anyways, thats all besides the point, the point is I need to know what you would do in my situation. All choices require a good deal of effort, but the ebay option is easier. I need to find around... 500-700$, both for the camera (because the one I have right now can only shoot up to 320x240 resolution, whoopie) for costumes, and prop materials. I already have some software for the effects and sound editing but I don't want to start going and spending thousands of dollars on just a 10-15 minute fan-film that is meant for recreational purposes...

So bottom line is;

A: Sell things on eBay and hope for the best
B: Get a job at a fast food resturant in town
C: Abandon the film until I have adequate funding

I could also try looking in the paper in the help wanted section but I live in a small town and am not exactly going to be taken seriously due to my age :shiftyl:. -OR- I could try mowing lawns and shoveling drive ways for 10-20 bucks a pop... might take a while however if I want to get five hundred to seven hundred dollars... and thats assuming I can get a somewhat continual flow of jobs...

*sigh* It s#cks to be broke :(

Sell some things on Ebay, and work at the same time. It's the only thing I can reccomend.

As long as the stuff you sell on ebay is yours... then I guess a mix of selling and working is gonna get you there fastest. You could also try raising the funds in some other entreprenurial way, or you could pimp out your body for cash too.

Did you . . .

Did you just censor the word, "sucks"?

Er, right.

That aside, I think you should sell things and get a job. Use most of the money that you get for the film and some of it into a bank or something.

Sell things on Ebay and work, I agree. However, isn't there anywhere else you can work besides a fast-food restaurant? I worked at one for two days, decided it wasn't worth it, looked around a bit, and got a job at EB Games for $8.75 an hour. Fast food places are highly overrated for jobs. Pay sucks, hours suck, environment sucks. Just my opinion, but working in Burger King and such is really the pits.

Actually, working at a Pizza Hut in the middle of Memphis when I was 14 was one of the funnest times of my life. It was ghetto as hell and everybody was fucking crazy, but I got free pizzas on occasion and I got to see Gargoyles all the way through right before I left. It was some good times. I tried getting a second job at McDonald's, but they were uptight assholes there and everybody was miserable--most of them were white, too, so maybe there was a cultural difference, there. :/

In re: the film, I suggest you just film it for 1/4 the cost. 700 bucks to shoot some nerds running around in robes pretending to fight with imaginary swords is far too much money.

try selling your items on eBay and also buying your equipment on eBay also because if I'm not mistaken PayPal gives you eBay credit instead of cash or something like that. My boss bought tons of recording equipment and cameras and such from eBay and it all turned out great (just make sure you ask lots of specific questions before you buys something, and make sure the guy has a good track record in selling items)

as for the cost being so high - one thing you have to realize is that makign a movie requires a substantial amount of funding the first time because you have to get so much new equipment (unless you have stuff just lying around, which most people don't) so once your second film rolls around you won't need to buy as much or even anything at all.

oh, pimp out your body too ;) *whistles*

Sorry Xe, Sorry Link...
I am not going to pimp my body :P

Maybe I could find a good deal on eBay, if I can find a reasonable video camera on eBay that'll work. I also (unless the camera is digital) need a video-editing PCI card to go along with it so I can take the data from the cam-corder and download it to the PC.

Yarg, I never thought making a film would be so much work :(

Help wanted page... here I come!

Selling on eBay is difficult if you don't know what to do. It'll take you a lot longer than a month to make $700. I would go for working, because eBay fees are ridiculous, and you'll probably end up losing money at the beginning.

Make a lemonade stand...

In all serious though, work and Ebay. Its the only way. Well, apart from pimping your body. But it appears you dont wanna. pfft.

you can't really mow very many lawns in the winter.......nor can you have a successful lemonade stand...

i would suggest getting a job, if anything for the work experience. but there are tons of bettter places where you can get an easy temp job that is not a fast food restaurant.

Yeah i would suggest selling things and waiting a bit. What is your movie about anyway?

I vote for D) all of the above. Seriously.

And once your movie is done, if you don't have a website to show it off on already I'd be glad to get it some publicity on my site :P

You could also try stocks. Yahoo is on the rise again, after a fall of $11.33! I sold half at $41, but I should have sold it all. I still made money in the end, though. Stocks are so much fun!

I'd say that C is the sane decision, with a bit of B mixed in. If you have to sell stuff on eBay to get the money for a movie then I think you need to hold off on the movie for some time. Maybe when you're older and have more money and less free time ;)
