A lot of people seem to be under the misapprehension that bananas are a fruit. They are in fact not a fruit.
It's called the banana tree, but it is not a tree. It is a massive herb, which can grow up to 15 metres high. In fact, it is the largest herb in the world.
When the leaves unfold, they cover one on top of the other and together form the "pseudostem", which looks like a tree trunk but has no wood. Then the limbs of the leaves spread out over the pseudostem, like a tree's foliage. The banana plant grows in warm, humid regions, and is mainly just water (80% worth!). It takes between 9 to 12 months from the time a banana plant is planted to the point when its bunch of bananas, which will weigh 20 to 25 kg on average, is harvested.
The banana is a strange plant; as a perennial, it replaces itself. When the bunch of bananas is harvested, the mother dies (it is the pseudostem which is cut, not just the flowering stalk). But before harvesting, the mother plant puts out new sideways stalks, known as suckers, to ensure her succession. The underground part of the stem (also known as the corm bulb, stump or rhizome) will send out new shoots and these form the basis of the perennial banana plant. Each shoot can become a fully-fledged banana plant, either as the successor to the mother on the same stump, or it can be removed and planted elsewhere.

Chickpeas?
2 questions...
1 - Why do you need the names of so many fruits and veg?
2 - You don't want us to physically give you those fruits do you!?:P

It's for a science project, I am trying to find what fruits are most imported or exported and all that other stuff about fruit and vegetable sales and growth.
And no I dont't want them physically because that would cost alot of shipping and handling and i would have to give you credit for my project.

cheers.

And,the banana plant has a heart too.Check it,there's a red flower like thing there :)
It is used to make traditional medicine and is said to be very effective against high fever. But,many don't eat it because it is said a pontianak(Female Vampire that lives in trees.Or tree vampire) will then haunt you.Brutally.
