Ive decided to upgrade my super-crap(C) speakers.
Any recommendations?
Price range: 50 ~ 160 $ cnd.
Another quick question : Are sound cards worth the money?
I've heard many times that an old sound blaster card is better then any onboard sound, but then I was never able to tell the difference (if your going to grab a new sound card, check out sites like newegg that allow customer reviews -- its really nice to see feedback about certain products).
As for speakers, I assume that any decent 5.1 (if your going all out) system would be fine -- I've used Altec Lansing speakers forever But Creative Labs and Klipsche both have really nice speakers.
As for specific speaker systems, I am sure we've got an audiophile or semi-audiophile somewhere around here that might be able to help you out.

Oh Klipsche. I havent heard that name in a good while. I kind of wish I had some just because of that name. Klipsche.
Anyway. I have a set of Altec's aswell. And an Audigy 2 ZS. I'm no audiophile, but, the shit sounds good, loud or not-so-loud.

Got myself a Audigy 2 ZS myself. I also have a set of Logitech Z-640's, probably the best set under $60 today.
It's Klipsch damnit, Klipsch! ;) (I know because I own some, are you jealous Pixels?) :D
I only have one piece of advice for speaker selection, pay no attention to normal wattage ratings! Wattage can be twisted and interpreted to suit the manufacturer. Look for continuous RMS wattage, this is the raw power produced at a continual rate from the amp. If the speakers don't list RMS, then chances are they're not very good.
