You don't want to, most are unstable. Unless you join a pro clan, but I have found it not worth the time to join a large scale clan.

Yeah, I would say that most guilds are not useful for helping you advance in the game. More like they're someone to chat to if you're bored, or a contact list of people you can ask if you're looking for more ppl to join a group for a dungeon.
There really isn't much need for a guild until later lvls.

Guild are a very helpful way to group and get help from, if you join a good one.
Just join one, if it doesn't help at all, try to find a better one.

Be polite and don't try to hide the fact that you're new, otherwise people will think you're just evil or stupid. Ask for help, but accept the possiblity that people might not be helpful.
And don't sell any items (except ones with grey names) to vendors after you get past about lvl 6 or 7. Use the AH, I made the mistake of never using the AH until I got to about lvl 30 or 40 and had about 10 gold instead of the usual 50 gold.
Most important of all, if you ever get tired of endlessly leveling, or feel like its going to take forever to get to level 60, forget about it. Too many people treat most of the game like a leveling treadmill, and forget to enjoy the other parts of the game. Take your time, enjoy the scenery, dabble in doing Battlegrounds, get a group and fight through a dungeon, several times. Try out everything you can. As soon as you stop caring only about leveling, it'll seem like you're leveling faster.

You know, that was really good advice. I actuallu never really though of that. Heh... It actually revitalized me a lot. I may even create a new acount, just because it would be a new slate.
Whether you meant for that or not, than you for the advice! :)

I was thinking about it, and it seems like simultaneously the best thing and greatest weakness of MMO's is that there are no true "victory conditions." That can throw a lot of people off, particularly hardcore gamers who usually are focused on winning. Lol, in a way WoW is more similar to The Sims than it is similar to, say, Neverwinter Nights. A lot of people think reaching lvl 60 is "winning," or at least it's their goal, since "you can do all sorts of cool stuff only at lvl 60" or "the game doesn't really start until you reach maximum lvl." The problem is, once they reach lvl 60, they've been so focused on lvling, that they aren't really sure what to do. I really don't think there are that many people focused on finding a way to have fun playing, because the accepted way of having fun is by trying to get to lvl 60.
On a similar note, I was wondering why I enjoy doing instances over and over just to get better gear. I know for myself particularly that I don't find it fun to get better gear just for the sake of having really cool gear. I might be odd that way, but it just doesn't make sense. Dungeon Siege and Dungeon Siege II are very similar to WoW in that specific way. They are all about getting better gear, and getting to new places in the game world and killing the biggest boss eventually. Dungeon Siege II can be played on 3 difficulty levels, and you can only get to the next difficulty by beating everything on the previous difficulty. After beating the first one, I lost interest. The only difference about the second difficulty was that better gear was dropped. No change in monsters, the bosses were all the same, just tougher. It became a giant treadmill.
I was wondering why that didn't happen to me in WoW? At times WoW can be much much more of a treadmill than Dungeon Siege. Then I figured it out: PvP. Getting better gear by doing instances and grinding over and over allowed me to do better in PvP. PvP is not predictable, you fight against toons controled by other players, and you don't always know how strong they are. Sometimes strength doesn't matter as much as skill. Teamwork matters a lot, but is much harder to manage in PvP conditions, because there isn't a set system to fight against.
At the core, the reason MMO's are fun comes back to the "MM" part. Having other people playing adds a random element that can keep the game from becoming too repetitive. Think about it. If they made a World of Warcraft that was single-player, no one would want to keep playing it. Even if content was added every month like it is to WoW, the developers wouldn't be able to keep up with demand. They're having a hard enough time now, but the human factor keeps things interesting for the people still playing.

I always vendor items/disenchant unless I see them as worthwhile to AH (I know what stuff is worth, fort the most part). and I feel sorry for anybody who doesn't have herbalism (I've spent probably... 20g and still have 8g left on my lvl 19 charrie :P)

How the hell did you get traveler's backpacks for 4g??? They were like 20g apiece about 3 months ago, and now they're still like 10g!!!

Depends on the server. On mine, it's 5g for high buyouts, and 3.5g for low buyouts. That's not bad, concidering when I started the server, it was 7gish.
