well i want to get more memory for my laptop. and i found out i have one free slot and what type of memory will be compatible with my computer
my question is, does it really matter what brand name i select? i'm loooking at the prices on newegg and for a stick of 1gb of the type that i need (i put in a very specific type) it ranges from $100-$136, and for a stick of 512mb the range is $38-$56 and there was even one there for $100! is there a substantial difference, or should i just stick with the cheapest one?
I usually go with cheap RAM. Make sure the speeds are the same though, because that you will notice.

ok another question, im supposed to be getting PC2700 ram, can I get a faster one (pc3200) and will it still work?
edit: found out it will work, but the system will only operate at the speed of the slowest memory module in the bunch

Find the right type, then go to the website of the electronic stores near you and search for the best price. Staples sold the one I use for over $100, but at another nearby store JnR I bought the 512 for about $76.
Tip: I use the Edge configurator, since there you can keyword search your model and the PNY could not find my laptop model.

How do i figureout my RAM type?
there are a couple of different figure-outers at the staples link above. if you go to crucial.com you can also get one that will tell you how many open slots you have.

You can go to www.cpuid.com and download CPU-Z, which will tell you everything about your comp including ram.
