View Full Version : saving links
Say I want to download a flash game that has no download button. I know sometimes I can right click on a link and select save as. How can I best do this? Is there another way? Do I just have to make a link in order to download it?
Edit: Not sure if this is the right forum.

Just bookmark the page you found it on
No. I want to download it. Like so I can get it without the internet.

Nope, I dont think thats possible then.
View the HTML, search for .swf, copy the whole link, and use something like wget (http://www.gnu.org/software/wget/wget.html) to grab the file. There's a version of wget with a Windows GUI available here (http://www.jensroesner.de/wgetgui/).
hmm... ok.
but ifi have the link copeyed, http://homestarrunner.com/sbemail139.swf
is there a way to do the save link as without having to post a link or something?
Yes, if you right click that link you posted you can "Save Target As".

In Firefox you can right click, select View Page Info, click on the Media tab, and search for a file that ends in .swf and hit the Save As button.

This seems relevant: how do I save an embeded video file if the URL in the source code points to
[http://www.site.com/something].ashx?fileid=[a really long code here]
So it doesnt end in .wmv or .avi like it should, it ends in .ashx??
Is there a way to save it? If not would I be able to use screen capture software to re-record it? Fraps only works in games.
(further tracing of the file leads to some URL that ends in .asf and when placed in the URL bar it opens windows media player and plays the file)

.asx, .asf, etc. are for streaming videos. You cannot save them.
In Firefox you can right click, select View Page Info, click on the Media tab, and search for a file that ends in .swf and hit the Save As button.
Thnx a bunch WL. That's what I was looking for.

Or you can just paste the link in google and when it comes up with no results it'll have a link there for you to right click.
Ok thnx, I think both of those will work.
