Q: What is this 'Respite of Honor'?
A: It is a Starcraft mod, or, to be more exact, a total conversion.

Q: Why are you making this total conversion?
A: Because.
No, really, there is no reason, I just though: "why not?" and started working on it.

Q: Why did you decide to call if "Respite of Honor"?
A: I knew I suck at naming projects, so I just opened some random pages in the Oxford Dictionary and took out words that looked interesting. The name has nothing to do with the actual content of the mod, or anything at all, and may be changed in the future.
DO NOT post suggestions.

Q: What are the new races in the mod?
A: Well, after I get rid of Terran, Zerg and Protoss, I'm replacing them with Human (oh I'm creative...), Cyborgs (oh I'm sooo creative...) and Kreove (some generic cute murderous alien race).

Q: Is it going to include a campaign?
A: Yes. I'll try to make it a long and cheesy campaign that can keep you playing it for weeks before you beat it, but don't count on it.

Q: Will it be playable in multiplayer?
A: Should be. First I need to get a bunch of people who even know about this mod so that they can team up and play it together, and that is, after I even finish creating it :P

Q: Will you change the graphics?
A: Like, DUH!!!
Yes, I will change the graphics. Originally I intended to change all of the game's graphics, but than I decided I'm lazy and now I'm only going to change around 90% of the graphics. YA RLY.

Q: Will you change the sound and music?
A: Well, I intend not to, but I might change my mind. Who knows?

Q: How much time have you been working on this mod? How much of it is done?
A: Time? I have no clue... the creation date of the current mod folder is September 21st, so I guess I'm working on it for about four months, but most of that time I spent on playing WoW, NFS, or being owned in UT04, so make that three weeks.
My calc says 12.623...(...number) percent of the mod is done, you gotta trust the calc!

Q: So, are there any screenshots?

Don't worry, it's just the *.avi file. I had to remove the music and reduce the graphic quality so that you won't spend 8 hours of download for less than a minute of video.

A: Team? Who said there's a team? I'M the team, I make the whole mod by myself! ZOMG!

Q: Want some help?
A: No thanks, there's only enough place in the credits for one person, and that's gonna be me. :rolleyes:

Q: Ok, so, when is this mod going to be released?
A: What am I, a fortune teller? I don't know!
I can assume I'll finish it in two to three months from now. A bit long, yes, but I want to tease you up :)
'sides, I've seen mods worked on by groups of people for over a year and still not being finished, so I believe I'm doing well.

Q: Why are you making this thread now, than? Why not wait until you finish the mod?
A: Because I'm planning to release a playable demo of the alpha of the Human race, in less than a week, and I want to hear (well, read...) what people think about it.

That's right, here is where you come in!

I'm sure that most, if not all of you, have played SC total conversions in the past. I want you to tell me what did you like about them, what you didn't like about them, etc. It would help me A LOT in the creation of this mod.

- What programs are you using to make the graphics besides Grp Converter?

- How did you make that movie clip!?!

Not a lot places sell StarCraft, or only have a few copies of the game. Suggestion, go to Amazon.com and get SC and BW for 19.99 and it come in a week or two.

For the graphics, I use Anim8or (3D modeling program), Paint (Microsoft's), and PaintShopProX ('cuz Photoshop is teh sucks, really).

The movie clip I made with Fraps and AVI to MPEG Converter.

To tell you the truth, I'm rather unsatisfied with the movie at the moment. It was really cool at first, but after compressing it it became boring (generally because there's no more sound, and a low graphic quality).
As a small improvement, here's the soundtrack (http://revolution.wc3campaigns.com/forums/index.php?act=Attach&type=post&id=6700) of the movie, feel free to play both at the same time (I'd suggest playing the sound with Winamp and the movie with Window Media Player).

Your saying you have probloms downloading it? Do you have a pop-up blocker, then try turning it off.

Wow, first off, thats a great mod so far. I hope you finish it. My game crashed near the end, I don't know why. The balancing needs some work. Need to change the computer's AI, the Terran computers build supply depots like mad sence they still think its a good source of supply. I hope their's a siege mod... There isn't any left off, which is a little annoying when some of my addons can't find enough space to build on. The biggest thing is that some of the units spine around in big circles like crazy, probolly the acceleration or the turn radiuse it too low or too high.

Anyways, good mod so far.

But when I tried to open the .zip, it said it was corrupted or invalid,

Have dl'ed it and if I can pass it to a diskette (yeah, forgot my USB pen :P) from my work PC, will give it a go tonight. :)

Edit add (way later): Now that I've seen it better (after Toonami/Suicidal-Kismet's hint), my 1st dl was corrupted. :P Will try to dl it again tomorrow (or later tonight).

TIP IN DOWNLOADING *.ZIP FILES:
- Press Save instead of Open. Save it on your desktop, instead of opening it from the TEMP folder.

There's a random crash, I don't know why it happens, but most mods that involve Terran that I do seem to have it. :(

Balance does need twiaking, but I prefer to leave it until after I finish all three races. Yet, if you have unit-specific major imbalances I'd be happy to hear.
As for the computer building supply depots - they're not a good source for supply, but they're a great source for gas. The best source for gas, actually. Try playing again and building them like crazy yourself (make sure you play the map I attached) :p
There won't be a siege mode, there will be a delf-destruct mode instead. I still can't decide if to make the click -> boom effect with scripts or triggers, so it's not there yet. Addons build really fast, and they're cheap, so just build them quickly when the building is ready.
And yeah, I need to fix the flingy. MCVs go mad :P

Aqo, just a hint about the flingys. Some flingys do that because they are originally weapon sprites. Other will do the spinning like crazy if the one of the turning values in flingy.dat is set too high.

Actually, I know why the flingy is causing crazy spinning, and it's neither of the reasons you have posted.

Yup, that's my assessment on it too. All my attemtps so far will say finished dl n' the only thing I get is a corrupted files that varies in size (read, between 100- 130 KBs). :P

Aqo', can't you host it on Kupatrix (http://www.kupatrix.org) by any chance? ;)
Side note: And the link to the file will have to be like this example (http://sigs.kupatrix.org/respiteoh.zip), where I just followed the usual linking to the uploaded files with the name of the (corrupted) file I'm getting. To know which file name to use on your link though, just use the one that the uploading page shows ya after sending the file up.

Kupatrix has a size limit of 500k, my file is 1.5m, can't upload it there :(
And yes, PR is down most of the time, which is why the link seems broken...
hmm... I guess I'll have to look for more upload sources. :\

*Sighs* Didn't know the size limit for Kupatrix... although expected to be somewhat higher (up to 2 MBs). :P

I think the crashing has to do with the siege tanks. I rarely see the rock spirit poping up when a bunch of siege tanks are attacking. I also played the mod w/o the map, I was playing against a CPU zerg player and only used siege tanks, that when I saw the rock spirit. Maybe their is a glitch with the animation.

If you really don't want any siege tanks and you have it for a self-executable, you should enable the siege ability and change the siege tank morphing so it only has a 'wait 1 ticks'. Im hoping when a siege tank is trieng to siege, it won't do anything or affect the unit, no crashing. I know your gonna have a MemGraft at the end, but if your going to have another beta self-executable, you should try doing that.

So, your mod is only playable with your UMS games? That's neat.

- Well, thats all the things I found.

P.S. I made this awsome looking progress bar (the little bar thing that tells you how far your unit is compleated, under 'Training Unit, Building, Warping etc...) that glows up this silver color. It'll be a cool effect for your mod.

Well yeah, the AIs are stupid. I don't know how to edit AI (I do have SCAIEditIII, but it doesn't seem to come with help files...).
Just imagine they're not stupid, and nuke their supply depots, it's fun :D

Ah, you're right, the problem is with siege tanks; it's probably because I removed their turret... *sigh*
I tried putting 'wait 1 ticks' as the script, but it didn't help. Changing the unit AI and 'goto' scripts didn't help either, though, during the proccess I achieved the removal of siege tank's lockout of frame 12.
I guess I better either get rid of it completely or add an invisible turret.

MemGraft is outpatched now. So for the siege mod, you could try to making Tank(Tank Mode) turn into a Tank(Tank Mod). lol.


O and, can someone post up the original tpbfull? I replaced all of them with the glowing one.

I played your mod, it crashed mid game and i dled it yesterday(and im useing 1.05 just because i dont feel like updating it). Also it was a little hard to see the units apart from buildings and other untis. But other then thoese two things and the unsiegeable siege tank i thought it was a great mod. (Hehe i loved the bc)

It looks like a building or your going to replace that for the Protoss Carrier. O btw, it's kind of hard to tell which building is which just by looking at it, sence they all look identical.
