So I set up my Nintendo 64 the other day to play some of my favourites (Perfect Dark, Goldeneye, Donkeykong and SC for N64) but after I finished setting it up I rememberd my controllers are screwed. The controll stick is verry loose and some of the buttons don't respond on a few controllers. I think I treated them a bit rough.
Q1) Is there a simple way to fix the controllers? (I can't buy them anywhere)
Q2) Does anybody know where I can download roms? I heard there was a big crackdown on roms a while ago. If I own a cartrage copy of the roms I download they are legal right?
I figure it is easier to play roms than set up my 64 whenever I want to play again.

1. That's why I took loving care of my controllers and why they're still in tip-top shape even after 4 some years. No, you can't fix the controller stick either unless your some sort of techno genius. Your just going to have to shop around extensively until you find one if it means that much to you.
2. Roms? Sorry...

Try a pawn shop for a controller, that might do the trick.

Nintendo of America is the best company in the world when it comes to customer service. Call them up and explain that you can't find official N64 controllers anywhere, and that yours are too worn to work properly anymore.
I had a friend who broke his last SNES control pad and couldn't find a replacement. They sent him two by overnight mail... free of charge.

What a great game, SSB that is, I still like it more than the GC version.
Rogue squadron, Goldeneye, Conkers bad fur day, Banjo Kazooie/toonie, those old school wcw games, and battletanx. My favorites.
How did the controller finding go peace_machine?

I remember playing Turok 3 way back when. That was so fun blasting those dinosaurs and praying mantis things. I remember playing Goldeneye for hours on end with friends, squinting at the lil 4-cornered screen. Then I got a PSX and Twisted Metal 2 for it. My social life ended from that day on.
Both Zelda title on N64 pwn all games. I loved Ocarina of Time seeing as it is my favorite game I have ever played. And Majoras Mask was also great. Just play it. Goldeneye 007 is the greatest console FPS ever. Better than Halo by far. Perfect Dark is also awesome and is way better than Halo but not 007.

I never could get used to the idea of a 3D link. I'm addicted to Zelda: A Link to the past.

Ok so whats their phone number (area codes and all) and how long will I be paying off my phonebill?
I found my game stash, I still have 20+ games. I bought more games for my 64 than any other system.
I think I remember seeing an adon for the Gamecube that allows you to play N64 games but it wasn't pal compatibal. Did anybody else see that? It was in a magazine.

I think you can find the numbers on the back of all your manuals and also with some papers that came with the box that held your nintendo 64.

1)Try Walmart. The one in my town still has the MadCatz controllers.
2)I know places, but I shouldn't admit to that...hehe. No, owning a cartrage copy of the roms does not make them legal. Copyright law regarding backup copies of software can be quite vague, and from the best of my understanding, it is illegal to create backup copies of any software that is explicity stated in its license that it cannot be copied. Claiming such a thing as a "legal rom" has been a trick of providers to boost their site ratings since visitors think they are not breaking the law.
The only software that is legal to copy are things under the GPL or similar licenses, and no, Nintendo, Microsoft, Rare, Square, EA, etc will never license their software under the GPL since it provides that users may freely alter and distribute new versions of the software.

(though it never is a ping on my conscious when I download a ROM that I don't own)
The number is on the back of the N64. If nothing else, try their website for the number (www.nintendo.com I'm ASSUMING)

Shame on you all for downloading all those roms.
Hm, Me?
....Aheh..........
Shame on you all for downloading all those roms. ;)
But, yeah, they are illegal, even if you have them on your computer for less than 24 hours.
About the controllers, I dont' know where to buy N64 computers. However, if anyone is having troubles with a GCN controller, I know how to fix it. If the b button or a button is sticky, then all you have to do is twist the controller somewhat. It fixes it right away.

I didn't believe it at 1st. It was one of those things that would be useful but nintendo wouldnt make and you wouldnt buy.
Anyone seen that other fancy adon for the GCN? or was it a special adition? Anyways it has a bunch of fancy features.
Any good download sites? I tried google but most of the sites linked to other sites, which linked to other sites, which linked back to the original site.

HEY HEY HEY!! Who remember's supergame boy -thoughts swirl back-
I loved that theature background! That was so awsome! It is the first place I beat Super Mario Brothers for Gameboy too. I also loved to wipe the background clean and color it with that changing rainbow background, though the AAAAAAAAAANNNNNN sound of doing it got very annoying.

ANSWER to Q1: Since you're in australia, I'm guessing you can buy from ebay... http://search.ebay.com.au/search/search.dll?MfcISAPICommand=GetResult&ht=1&cgiurl=http%3A%2F%2Fcgi.ebay.com.au%2Fws%2F&SortProperty=MetaEndSort&query=n64+controller&shortcut=2
I'm not sure on how to fix a contrller.
ANSWER to Q2: I had a site that hosted 1 rom, (Super Mario 64) it worked and I have tried it out. But it is gone. Sorry, but I doubt there are any roms for n64.

Everyone know that all ROMs ARE illegal, right? Just in case someone didn't, and although this was said earlier, some people don't read all the posts. I don't know where any roms are ;) (Although I might have heard some rumours.... *cough* *co-email-meugh* *cough* *cough*)
For the GCN, there is no thing that allows you to play n64 games on it. There is, however, and attachment that allows you to play GBA games on the GCN.

I now have 3 emulators and 1 game, Super mario 64. Don't tell nintendo about this though.

I know of many places to get SNES roms, and a few to get N64, GCN, PS1, PS2, or Xbox roms. However, since this is illegal, I shall not share my knowledge.

Hmmm. . .
I'd personally check your local gamingstores (Places liek Electronic's Botique and Babbages/Software Etc./Gamestop), as many will often deal in used gaming wares, including old controllers for the older systems. If you don't have said stores in your area (Someonementioned you lived in Australia earlier), check their websites - they likely have the used goods on there as well, and often for very nice prices.
As for the ROMs. . . I got out of the emulation scene about 3-4 years ago, back when N64 emulation was the new big thing. . . back then, finding the ROMs online was a piece of cake, but yes, recent checks for a few of my old favorite games have revealed that the community has gone to utter shit. The best, most reliable, 'consumer'-friendly sites are all dead or commercialized. . . simply put, emulation on the WWW is pretty much dead. You're better off searching on a P2P network than Google, in all actuality. ROM packs. . . tend to turn up on them.

I actually do know of a good site, but I don't use it anymore *cough* *cough*.
Oh yeah, for anyone who downloads movies/songs:
My brother recently was downloading a movie, I forget which one, at his university. Paramount actually called up the university because they had caught him with his IP number downloading it. They didn't really know it was my brother, but needless to say, he's stopped downloading anything of an illegal sort, like music, just in case.
