View Full Version : Trouble with SC Shareware

I'm having some problems with the Starcraft Shareware, and I have a feeling it may happen to the game itself if I were to buy it, so I'm holding out until I have this problem fixed.

Basically, when I try and connect to Battle.net on the Shareware (which you can do, and play games with other Shareware users - before you ask :P ) it comes up with an error message saying that either my connection is very poor, or that it is not processing UDP packets properly. Now, the connection being poor thing is silly, I'm pretty sure - we have Broadband and the connection works perfectly with any other game - so it's obviously to do with the UDP packets not being processed. I've made sure the Firewall is allowing all access to SC and that the router firewall has opened Port 6112 to allow UDP packets to come in.

I've had no such trouble with any other games, so both I and my brother are in the dark over what to do. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Try turning off the firewall completely and disable the port forwarding (just undo what you did to disable it).

Starcraft runs fine on my computer with or without a firewall and I don't have port forwarding on (despite what they say about needing it to host).

It's possible that the shareware version connects to a different server than the normal battle.net servers and Blizzard did something to the shareware servers to make them not work. But in any case, the game is only something like 10 bucks and it's worth it even if you can only play offline.

I didn't start playing SC shareware until after I had gotten the full version, and I still love it, for all kinds of reasons. :)

but yeah dude, lately on my new computer ive had the same problem. i dont have a firewall and i tried it with and without port forwarding and it still didnt work.
