View Full Version : Help With Tank Transports
Hi, This is my first post so here me out please.
I've been modding for about 3-4 solid months now and I'm trying to go for my second big mod that involves takeing the Seige Tank and making it like a ground troop transport (you know for like marines and firebats) but i'm haveing some problems because I can't get the Seige Tank to have the avalible space needed to transport (I'm Shooting for 6) and have the correct buttons at the same time. I've got about every modding program out there so I know that I can either do it or it can't be done at all. Also is there any way to make it so that you can transport small units (Marines,Firebat,Ghosts) but not big units (Vultuers,Goliths and yes other Seige Tanks)? Any help would be appreciated.

Hey, U-238, and welcome to Warboards! I hope you enjoy your stay.
For a transport, you can make a copy of the Dropship code blocks from Arsenal, IceCC, and Memgraft. Then, just modify the data to make it look like a Siege Tank. Obviously, you'll have to relocate the Siege Mode button, among other things.
Now, as for the second part, I have no idea how you'd go about accomplishing this while keeping the normal Dropship the same. If you're eliminating the normal Dropship, then you can simply give the Tank 6 "Provided" slots and make all vehicles take up >7 "Taken" slots.
Not sure if that's what you wanted, but it's the best that I know of. Good luck with your project.
Okay could you speak english please? I've been modding for awhile but I'm not that advaced. When you say "Code Blocks" you mean copy the DAT file, the Iscript entry, and the Button combo? Also, I can never get anything from Memgraft to work with my Mods. How do you make Starcraft use them?
Be Paitent with me please...

Hehe, sorry. When I saw "3-4 solid months", I made a few assumptions. Anywho.
Yep, that's what I mean when I saw Code Block. And as for Memgraft, just create a seperate copy of patch_rt.mpq and put the MGD file in there along with the rest of your files. Make sure the pathing is "custom/mgpatch.mgd". Make sure the MPQ is in the SC directory, and run the EXE that Memgraft created.
Hope that helped.

Okay Thanks. So I Copy everything from the dropship and use it for the tank and then use memgraft to put the .mgd file in patch_rtq\customs and run it useing the memgraft EXE right?

Pretty much, yeah.
Okay, I've done that but now I've run in to another problem. When Starcraft boots up it's all in some foriegn lauguage and I still do not get the correct buttons on the Siege Tank. So now what?
What do you mean by Foriegn langauge like its speaking spanish or it talking in 1's and 0's? And what do you mean about the buttons not being correct?
P.S. I've been toying with this idea for a while too...

About the foriegn language, you probably didn't get the right locale ID for the files from patch_rt. You should check that. The English Id is 0. Make sure that you have the right one. Second, make sure that you place the name of the MPQ that you are using in the patch_rt fields(misc tab) of memgraft before you save. That tells what mpq it looks for(it must be in your sc folder, mind you). Also, make sure you change the number of buttons in the units tab for the siege tank to the actual number. This is important for them to show up. Finally, make sure all of the requirements are set right. Buttons won't show up if the requirement doesn't return true(which is partially determined by the requirement values in Memgraft).
Hope this helps.

 Okay, this isn't funny anymore. I know I sound like a stupid idiot who can't mod worth a crap but I'm still haveing problems. So I'm going to make this post a bit longer to describe exactly what I'm doing and hopefully one of you can tell me what my problem is. So here goes...
I'm Running StarCraft Version 1.13e.
I have the following Moding programs (but I'm not well learned in some oh them)
Arsenal III
Ice
IceCC
Arsenal Zero
StarDraft
StarGraft
MemGraft 1.13e (beta)
TblPad (Haven't messed with this too much)
Unit Resizer
EXE2MPQ
Retro GRP (Haven't messed with this alot either)
ScAiEdit (Haven't even touched this)
and of course...
WinMPQ
MPQ Compactor
MPQ Draft
Now, this is exactly how I went about making this mod...
1st I Created a folder: Tank Transport.
2nd I Created folders in that folder: arr, scripts, custom.
3rd I went into Arsenal III and edited the Seige Tank to be just like the Dropship.
4th I saved it as units.dat in the "arr" folder.
5th I copied the Iscript to the "scripts" folder.
6th I went in to Memgraft and edited the buttons for the Siege Tank.
7th I added a load button (button 8) and a unload all button (button 9).
8th I set all the requirements and strings for the buttons.
9th I set the # of commands for the Seige Tank (and Dukes Tank) from 7 to 9.
10th I went under the Misc tab and changed the Patch_rt.mpq to Tank Transport.mpq.
11th I saved the file as "mgpatch.mgd in the "custom" folder.
12th I saved the Memgraft .exe to my Starcraft folder as Tank Transport Mod.
(13th Note: I've tried this method and just saveing it as an mpq without extracting the other files from Patch_rt.)
13th I extracted all the files except for units.dat and the Iscript out of the Patch_rt.mpq and added them to my Tank Transport folder.
14th I used the MPQ Compactor and turned my Tank Transport folder into an mpq
15th I put the Tank Transport.mpq into my Starcraft folder.
Now I should be set to go right?
But when I double click on the Memgraft EXE nothing happens and when I double click on the Starcraft icon the Mod doesn't work.
I've also done the all of the above 15 steps except changed the name of the folder from Tank Transport to Patch_rt and temporarly replaced the one in the Starcraft folder but when I double click on the Memgraft Icon nothing happens and when I click on the Starcraft Icon in runs the game like normal except it's in a forien language (I think it's either Spanish or French).
So now that you're all the way down here could you please tell me what I'm doing wrong?
I'm all ears. So any input would be great.
Again be patient with me I always catch on, if not sooner, then later.

Im not sure if this will help or relieve you at all, but when ever you click on the Normal Starcraft Icon, it will never boot up a modded version it will always boot up Starcraft Prime if you will, the one that came on the cd, so when you clicked on the icon it did what it was supposed to, and i myself have never gotten Memgraft to work either:D so don't feel so bad, i've been at work on my mod for 3+ years, lol.;).
So then its Memgraft, not me?
Okay I don't know if this thread is alive anymore but I finnaly got the mod to work:D ! (It was simply the fact that I didn't know how to create the mpqs for memgraft I thought you used the MPQ Compactor) So thanks for all the support. One more question... Every time I click on multiple Siege Tanks and have them go into Siege Mode the game crashes. I modded the "Siege Mode" Siege Tank to have 6 space and I can Siege up one tank but I can't Siege up any more becuase it crashes.
Any Ideas?
U-238
Sure, Ill post it on Starcraft.org. wait about 2 days and it'll be on there under: "Tank Transport"
Remember you have to have the MPQ in your starcraft directory.
