Yeah Alliance kicks ass *cough* gnomes *cough* The Alliance are so more evil. God Ive always wanted WoW. Ive been saying Im gonna get it since last year but the whole pay monthly puts me off. Oh, well Ill get it for Christmas
Screw alliance, go Horde!
The race doesn't matter, they all rock, but I'd give you an advice on what Class to pick for your main:
Don't pick hunters, or you'll end up owning evreyone by clicking one button, which will be plain boring.
Don't pick warlocks, they are ownage and all but soul-shard farming ruins it all.
Don't pick mages, they are gimped, you'll have to play for months and become a super pro just to be able to beat normal players with gear worst than yours.
Don't pick rogues, they're overused. They're quite fun to play, though, especially if you like ganking :)
Don't pick shamans, they're overpowered in every possible stat; everyone on alliance will hate you and everyone on horde will make fun of you.
You can't pick paladins on horde, but if you choose alliance after all (DON'T, THEY R TEH LAME, plus they're full of 50-year-olds that play NE females), don't choose palas anyway cus' they're boring... patch 1.9 might change that, who knows, but why take a risk?
Thus, I'd suggest you to either pick a Druid, Priest, or Warrior.
Druids are not very common on most servers, so you'll be unique, plus the class is mid-fun to play so it's ok.
Everyone likes priests, and you'll never have a problem to find a group, plus, you can go shadow and than you'll own everyone.
Warriors are ok, they're a bit overpowered but I heard patch 1.9 is gonna fix that.

The alliance are a bunch of goody-two-shoes, and the way they look just screams "holier-than-thou." Plus they're not all that great anyway. And I really don't want to have to fight a shaman on the battlefield. I love kiting palys with my mage, but you can't do that to shamans.
AqoTrooper was mostly right about all his points, though I'd have to say that mages aren't THAT gimped, since I have one. The thing I love about them is that they can teleport to any major city. I can't live without that.
I've also played a rogue, and while they're really good, all that can be said of them is that they're "cool." It's cool to play a rogue, but not really long term. They're kind of like paladins in that everyone plays a rogue, or a paladin, but really, who wants to be one? All rogues do is huge amounts of damage really fast. All palys do is not die.
Really, one can argue against just about every class. Probably the best bet is to try out as many classes as you can, and get them to at least lvl 10, and see which fits with the way you like to play.
One last disclaimer: Blizzard is going through each class and every month or so revises a class and changes a bunch of things. They've done this for druids, warlocks, hunters, and are about to do it for paladins. So the other classes are probably going to be changed noticably too, eventually.
I rly like the sound of a NE Druid or a human priest:)
Im getting it for Christmas and im also upgrading my comp with a sweet video card and more RAM :)
I cant wait to play it :)
So what are the "good" servers to play on?

It depends what kind of server you want. I think yu can choose PvP,PvE,RP,RP PvP
Well, the servers are about like this:
PvP: Great for rogues & shadow priests, you'll get to gank people a lot. Good for pro players, as they will be able to enjoy field PvP. bad for people who get frustrated because of dieing a lot, or just don't like being constantly ganked.
PvE: Generally good servers, most people will be friendly to each other - even if they're from different factions. You will still be able to enjoy PvP in battlegrounds or town raids. Ganking rarely accrues here, however. You'll mostly just get to gank RPing fools, erm... I mean... well nevermind... and you won't be ganked unless you turn PvP flag on, obviously...
You also get to duel members of the opposing faction, which is in a way - better than PvP. Why? Well, first of all it's a fair fight, secondly you can get a rematch :p
The downside is that not everyone may want to duel, but in exchange for not being ganked I personally think it's worth it.
RP/PVPRP: Never been on those so I can't really give you a good comment, but from what I understand they're like normal servers cept' people expect you to group with them and play D&D.

grats on getting wow -- the only thing I have to say is don't roll dwarf or gnome becuase the starting areas are lame and you need to get a good first impression of the game! I'd recomend night elf or undead
