Thinking about a new computer...

These are my computer's current specifications:

http://www.staredit.net/index.php?act=Attach&type=post&id=16104

As of now I would say the RAM is at about ~280 on a good day. Anf many of the games are beginning to lag my computer. I want something no more than $1,000. The part I don't know, is what to get for an average budget. I'll most likely be getting it for myself, but meh... Any suggestions?

The computer will be for only a few uses. But nonetheless.

1. Gaming
2. Music (Editing and listening)
3. Photoshop :)
4. Internet
5. TeH pr0n! :D

Anyway, those will be pretty much all of its uses...

So, here is where you come in! What should I be looking at!?

I don't know where you're looking, but $280 will buy you 2GB of good RAM. I don't think you're going to find a complete system that vastly outperforms your current one for under $1,000.

Here's what's going on...

Well, my computer is about 6 months too old for a regular upgrade(for RAM). And the fact that I have a total of 85Gigs of Memory(Both drives) and about 35 Gigs of music... It's not too good. So, it's not only for more RAM, it's for storage space.

But, in order for me to upgrade this computer, it would cost me around... $500 bucks in getting the older versions of the RAM upgrade. So, I thought... "Why don't I save up some more money, and buy a new computer!?"

That sounds like a bunch of vendor nonsense. Your computer is never too old for a "regular upgrade".

My computer is two years old and I could still replace all the RAM, or the hard drive, or the video card, or the processor, etc.

Well, the 512mb RAM upgrade for the make and modle of my PC would cost me around $500. OR so the guy said...

Buy two 1 GB sticks of RAM, for about $200 and a 160 GB Hard Drive for $140. Your processor is fine.

it would cost me $500 bucks in getting the older versions of the RAM upgrade.
Care to explain why that is? I don't see what prevents you from twisting the thumbscrew and upgrading the box :)

He's trying to get more money out of you. Just buy yourself a nice 400 gig hard drive and 2 GBs of RAM and be done with it.

Your processor is fine. 2.8 GHz is more than enough for just about anything.

Lol... Well, I just got into an argument with my mum. And the result was:

"Jake... If you want a new computer... You have to put something out for us. So, the deal is, whatever you give me, I'll match it."

So, I'll fork out $500 and get my own computer.

Becuase as of now, there are 4 people total that are working off of this desktop.

So, now the quesiotn is...

What computers have an Athlon 64 processor. I heard that they are pretty good.

What computers have an Athlon 64 processor.

Whatever computer you build it with. ;)

Well, I'm not looking to build one. I am having a hard enough time with just trying to find one.

Anyway, I am looking at this one (http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/product_detail.do?storeName=computer_store&landing=computers&category=desktops/media_center/ready_to_ship&subcat1=rts&catLevel=3&product_code=EK408AA%23ABA). But, this one doesn't come with a monitor.

But, I talked with a friend, and he pointed me in this direction:

Necessities:
1 Gig of RAM
250+ Gigs of storage
7200+RPM Drive Speed
A Decent Video Card (PCI Express)

And He said I should preferrably get an Athlon X2 64 bit
processor...

Now, the thing is... What computer has all of these, with a monitor. I guess, my overall price can exceed $1,000 by a little bit. But nothing too much...

You'll be hard pressed to find a decent Athlon 64 X2 system with an LCD monitor for under $1,000 unless you build it yourself.

Hmmm.... Better start looking then.

yeah thats what i was going to say. you're current computer looks pretty good from where i'm standing. get some faster ram. and you probably just need a defrag, get rid of spyware and other maintenance things, and you will see significant performance increases.

why do you need a new hard drive? because you are at 40% capacity and still have 50 gigs left? put a little effort into finding out what you need to do rather than doing what everyone tells you you need to do, and you will save a lot of money and be more satisfied.

While that's a nice system, it doesn't have a monitor which Forsaken_One is also looking for, and reinforces my opinion that you won't find a much better system than his current one with a monitor for under $1,000.

Well, this is the comuter I would like to purchase. It's quite awesome!

Only thing is, Temp, you were right... It's hard to find a decent compuiter with a monitor. But, I will look around at a few computer shops...

It has integrated graphics!

You are going to need to buy a video card seperately cuz the one that comes with it blows. The other components look fine, but you really need to get a video card.
