Howdy WindScar and welcome to our SC mapping n' modding corner (at the WB's forums). I hope you enjoy it enough to kepp comin' back. :)
If you want to know more about modding tools, I'd suggest ya to head here (http://www.warboards.org/showthread.php?t=9407) and perhaps to SC.org's (modding) tutorials page (http://www.starcraft.org/customs/CustomsTutorials) to know better which they are and on how to handle'em out. ;)

To simplify, the .tbl files are for the in-game text, so you can change pretty much any text in the game, though most people choose to edit only things like unit ranks, weapon names, etc.

Anything that is in a text form (Not picture) can be basically edited with the TBL files. If you play some mods, you will notice that the weapon name is different or rank as stated above. (My mod has nearly all units' names be revised). If you have any questions about it, visit that area that Basan requested. Enjoy your exploration!

I would say i wouldn't try to use anything i extracted from another mod, i'm pretty sure it wouldn't be looked nicely on. Not that i'm implying that about anyone, but i'm sure there's someone out there. Kinda like maps i reckon.
When i read that you unextracted some files from the mod, i got a liiiiittle suspicious:shiftyl::shiftyr:
:P

There's as much chance that he's extracting files to learn how to do things ins mods as there is that he's stealing things. I learned how to mod partially by looking at other peoples' mods. I wouldn't judge him just yet.
