View Full Version : So what should I do?

Alright,
So today I wrote my final for cell biology and after a whole 22 hours of studying I only knew about 15 or so questions out of 110. This exam is worth 50% of my final mark. Currently I am sitting at an 82-86 ish... not horrible but I'd like to get better. If I do get only the 15 right, that gives me big 14% which means I can take off 43% and bam... I have failed the course. Now this is only one exam but I need a 65% in all biology courses to stay in my program and a 75% average to stay in co-op. The chances of me attaining this are very low. So I need your help to tell me what I could do with my life?
My qualifications:
* High School Diploma
* Babysitting course
* CPR training
* other various things people get at the age of 13.
My traits:
* Friendly
* Hard-working
* Willing to learn
* other fun things ^_^
I don't have much money so I can't re-enroll in school right away because I would have to pay back the $10,000 the government has given me.
Oh yeah, I won't become a prostitute.
So let me know what you think I could do kk? ^_^

Whoa... bummer. I guess the norwegian school system is far nicer than yours, if you get smacked out of your program by screwing up on a final.
Here, if you fail a final you get to take it again coming summer, and even then you're allowed to be up to 3 subjects behind the rest of the program at a given time.... i.e. having failed 3 which you would normally have to pass is okay. You have to pass them to get your degree, but you can do so at your leisure.
So I guess my advice is to move here. Bring Graeme if you wish. My school is wicked cool. :)
Seriously, don't think you have to rework your life because of a single screwup. Often there will be ways out.
Why were you only studying for 22 hours anyway?
Change teachers. Often times, the course finals and such are different depending on the teachers. My original Spanish course I had last semester was with a nice teacher... Yet her final? Seven pages of nothing but Spanish, some words we hadn't even learned. I filled in what I could. I got one of the higher grades in the class (I had a little Spanish before... Doesn't say much), getting about thirty right out of two hundred and fifty answers.
Teacher I have now? A little harder class throughout the year... But her final next week? Two pages, just like all the rest. Comprehensive. And she's going to give us a study guide, unlike our last teacher.
Although classes may have set parameters for their class, try and get another teacher, or ask around and see how other people did. Maybe the grades get curved, or maybe it's just a really tough class. Hell, maybe it's a really sucky teacher >.<;;
Until you find out if you really *did* fail it, I'll keep to myself here on that to do.

Well. You could go to Italy and find a babysitter job there. Around 1000 Euro ( 2000 dollars I think ) per month, they give you a room to stay in and feed you, but that's a medium rich family, there are some that pay huge amounts of cash just to watch 1-2 dumb brats :) So yeah no other ideas :)

Write a BOOK!
It's so easy, you don't have to have any talent at all, just watch some good movies and rewrite them into one book, with different character names and some philosophical statements you find on random websites.
Do this, and you'll get rich & famous in no time, without having to put any real effort into anything.
Oh wait! I know... I know I said I wouldn't comment again, but I felt I had to since GenocideAlive hasn't said it yet!

You have lots of opportunities gurl!
First things first though--Work your way to the top. Everybody has to start somewhere. My first job, was Taco Bell (Before that I did alot of things under the table :P Like construction, contracting, filing, etc.....)
Well, I started all the way at the bottom at Taco Bell, I was washing dishes and taking the money in the back drive-thru window. Well, here I am now--In management :D And not only that but I have two jobs.
And guess what Taco Bell has taught me? It has taught me how to deal with ppl, it's buffed up my ppl skills, has made me more confidant in approaching ppl, given me more self-esteem--And it has helped me in church ministry wise as well. If I am expected to minister to ppl effectively, I can't be all shy and just sit in a corner and not say anything, I gotta approach them, hug on them, talk to them--And Taco Bell has helped me with that.
My second job is an office job. I do filing and all sorts of administrative work. I make more there than I do @ Taco Bell, so having these two jobs is GREAT!
Just find some place where you can move up, some place where they have competitive wages, great opportunities--And you'll find yourself and your life changing--But we all gotta start somewhere.

Seriously, I don't know what I've got going on here, or if PC99 is playing some sort of Freudian trick on everybody. But, this whole thing seemed like one big, filthy insinuation. As in, she wants you to take it in the back at the drive-thru window. So, chalk PC99 up for prostitute. ... ha ha ha... well for the past few days there has been people outside of my window taring the room which produces an intoxicating odor which makes it almost impossible to study and stay awake due to extreme CO levels. I've been studying at Graeme's as well.
I don't know if I failed yet, I could have done really super well but I am not sure as to how well or poorly I did. As for Organic chem, nothing yet thats all next year should I make it to then. I have an organic chem lecture + a lab and a manditory 6hr analytical chem lab which I'm really not looking forward too.

I would suggest joining some corperation at the management level, because management always is the corporate ladder straight to the top. so, you join as a low level manager, then you get promoted, and promoted, and promoted, and if your really good at it the CEO dies, by some unfortunant accident you may or may not have caused, and the board elects you as CEO.
but this might not work outside of america.
and plus, CEOs work about as much as teachers do, but get paid several million dollars more.

How did I miss this thread?
Chibi, don't worry. Many people fail courses, especially in university.You can always make it up. My brother failed his first math course which ended up setting him about half a year behind, but all things considered that's not bad. Just redo the course if you end up failing and continue with what you want to do.
If I'm understanding this right, if you fail the class, you'll be kicked out of certain things, or you'll lose forms of scholarships. Am I reading that right? So basically, if you fail it, you'll only lose the extra ciricular / instant money gains... Student loans aren't a problem here in the states (Not sure about Canada >.<;; ), and that's another possibility... If you lose part of the extra stuff, like a sorority or whatever... Don't fret. Although it's nice to have, you can still say on your resume "I had ___ sorority and ___ Scholarship until I had a class that was graded unfairly. However, after that point, I maintained a ___ GPA."
I've pulled something like that, actually... Rather funny, too :P But yea. See what you can do, maybe, and go from there... I still say not to immidiately think you failed, though. Just more ideas ^.^;;

I don't have money to spare, thats the only issue. I've figured it out and if I do happen to fail a course I will somehow manage to pull some money together and take distance ed in the summer. If my overall average ( like for the 8 months ) drops below a 75% I get kicked out of co-op... I don't want that to happen. I have to keep a 65% in all biology courses to stay in my program and an overall average of 60% to keep off of academic probation.
This whole school thing is so anti-cool.

That's what's great about forums, you can ask questions you wouldn't ask anybody you know because it might be "too embarrasing", but since nobody knows you on a forum, it's alright. Then again we're a pretty tight-knit community, but yeah, it's great for questions like this.

If you truly weren't looking for attention, I think you would have put forth more useful information and worked with people to mine more information. However, you've used this mostly as a chit-chat opportunity and don't even have anything to go on as far as where you stand with this exam. At no point do you make known any time or effort that you have put into finding alternate career paths or asking others about potential career paths you could choose from.
I don't care if you're feeling nervous and would like reassurance, but as far as you claiming to have made this thread for some purpose other than to pad your insecurities is a fucking limp facade. And Mr. Vigilante believes it's his duty as forum nanny to deem whether a thread deserves to survive or not? Why the sudden distaste toward a thread that you managed to swing into the somewhat humourous//light-atmosphered state (re: prostitution) that it is currently in?
Perhaps you simply misinterpreted the initial goal of the thread, Genocide. Anna has more brains than to search for possible job opportunities on a forum populated primarily with unqualified teenagers. Hell, I'd ridicule anyone for even attempting to get genuine career advice from an online forum, let alone a forum based on gaming.
As far as I see it, this thread was created in order to lighten Anna's worries about university and her future. Perhaps you did. I can point out at least 3 references in which "Anna" iterated and re-iterated that she was using the forum to "get ideas". Perhaps before you run off on your next prepubescent rescue of girlfriends, you should try to put together an idea, supporting evidence, and then try to make it cohesive. Because what you've written neither makes sense nor has even anecdotal evidence to support it. Perhaps.
Why the sudden distaste toward a thread that you managed to swing into the somewhat humourous//light-atmosphered state (re: prostitution) that it is currently in?
Because it was a "humorous, light-atmosphered" thread, then it turned into a syrupy pointless thread that began repeating itself en masse. I made my comment, she made hers, and then I made another one. See how threads work? They don't always do what you want, too bad; that's the idea behind a forum. If you don't like it, use a PM.
And picking out typos is such a captivating task, isn't it?
A typo implies that it was accidental; she misspelled it unintentionally. For instance, it may interest you to know that "padden" isn't a word. Typo? On a side note, more captivating than picking out typos is commenting on them with clever retorts! Well, actually it's sort of retarded, but at least it's something you can do. If you ever start a job thread, I'll have some starting material.
As far as this thread goes, if you and your girlfriend can keep me out of your mouth, I'm willing to let it be. Otherwise, if you keep attempting to either rebut what I have stated or attempting to ridicule me with your inane wit, I will defend myself.
And Modred, you're just pissed because you tried to get snotty about suing Microsoft and I balled up your words and made you eat them. Grow up and move on.

Bombing a thread is the equivalent of locking. Your post was just that: turning a perfectly fine thread into garbage because you, an individual of the hundreds that post here, were not satisfied with the direction it was heading.
Until then, spare me your mouth diarrhea.

For someone with such a 'vast, oh please hug me with your so wonderful knowledge on everything that relates and has to do with life', I find it really hard to believe that you missed this. I'll reiterate: no dumbass is going to search for possible career opportunities on an online forum based on gaming. She was simply trying to keep the thread alive because people were (note the italics) having fun.
Perhaps before you run off on your next prepubescent rescue of girlfriends, you should try to put together an idea, supporting evidence, and then try to make it cohesive. Because what you've written neither makes sense nor has even anecdotal evidence to support it. Perhaps.
Dude, you're so right. Next time I'll design a thesis statement. Then I'll gather my thoughts, brain storm, make a flow chart and begin a rough draft. Then I can edit for grammar, hand it to a friend so he/she can further edit and finally post it on Warboards!
