View Full Version : Britains state of correctness

Has anybody on these boards noticed how more and more Britain is becoming scared of offending people? Here are just a few examples:

-One county has banned seesaws as it offends fat children

-A girl was banned from here school for two days as she refused to remove her crucifix, but in the same school Sikhs are allowed to carry kirpans and wear karas (If you are in the UK check the cover story of the Daily Express Tuesday December 6)

-The use of the words Christmas lights cannot be used as it offends people who aren't Christian

-Pictures of married couples for advertising purposes (i.e. in shop windows) are banned as it offends gay people

I mean I just think this is pathetic, are people really that shallow?

Here are my solutions to this:

-Well encourage the fat kids to get healthy and also tell them politely to get on the see saw with another fat kid (if this is possible)

-I think religion should be accepted everywhere and therefore religious symbols should be allowed. The Daily Express described kirpans as daggers, which I believe is completely incorrect as they are for ceremonial purposes and are never to be, used as weapons just a symbol.

-Christmas albeit a Christian festival is now highly commercialised, why cant we hold all sorts of special shows or religious ceremonies in the public for other religions, it would also be good as it would educate many on other religions and help different religious groups to come closer together

-Simple solution, put pictures of gay couples in the windows as well. Now (this is judging on many people I know) this will involve a picture of two men (or women) 'snogging' full blown with detailed images etc. but it can simply show to men or women sitting nest to each other smiling of laughing like most married couple pictures do.

What do you think about this state of correctness? I would really like to hear whether this news has got to other countries and how it is interpreted.

"More and more"? Brits have been that way since...the Middle Ages ended. Everybody knows that.

Britains state of correctness

State of correctness? Are you joking me?

Incidents such as the ones you have mentioned are simply individuals making a point over something which most of the population wouldn't give a second thought to. I've lived in England my entire life, and things are quite a bit different.

I mean, the expressions "Gay" and "Jew" are used as common insults in my school, and I'm sure that's not the only place. Where's the correctness in that? It's about as far disconnected from 'correctness' as you can get, and it's pretty damn shocking.

It pisses me off hugeley, especially as Britishness effectively IS offending anyone and everyone.

-One county has banned seesaws as it offends fat children[/color]

WHAT? this extracts the urine, heavy people have a LOT of fun on see saws, catapulting skinny people for example. Yes this is true, yes I know from experience

-A girl was banned from here school for two days as she refused to remove her crucifix, but in the same school Sikhs are allowed to carry kirpans and wear karas (If you are in the UK check the cover story of the Daily Express Tuesday December 6)

Yes but it seems that tha may now be reversed because of even more complaints

-The use of the words Christmas lights cannot be used as it offends people who aren't Christian

Technically yes...but no-one (including most councils) dont give a toss

-Pictures of married couples for advertising purposes (i.e. in shop windows) are banned as it offends gay people

It is possible to tell from a picture when people are married or not (unless they are actuall GETTING married in the pic) Obvious solution, Legalise gay marriages

I mean I just think this is pathetic, are people really that shallow?

No, most of these decisions were made by people who are not memebers of any of the groups that are supposedly offended by any of this bollocks.

Unfortunately the arsewits who make the decisions are all middle class heterosexual white christian middle aged people with mustaches and huge salaries. The irony is so huge it could be mistaken for a child on a seesaw (to pick an example at random :P).

But to be fair...everyone ignores all the decisions anyway. One British trait that will never stop :D

These are just ridiculous. Some people should learn to care about the important things instead. Honestly. The people who are offended over the Christmas and Christianity association should try to remember what it is celebrated for.

I'm guessing his point has totally sailed over your head. Scratch that, I'm not guessing. I don't think it would be too much to say that you're completely oblivious to the entire concept he was expressing.

It is a sad thing that for every married couple we show in a window that we have to show a gay couple... Oh, but wait!
If we only show couples in commercials then we're discriminating against single people.
So for every commercial with couples in it, we should show one with singles too... But for each single man we should have a single woman... And they should be of varying ethnicities-but no minorities will be single, they'll have to be one of the married ones in case they think that we think they are all incapable of getting a partner.
Also, we should refrain from makeing blonde people the singles, or else they could say we are calling them dumb.
Oh, and we should also have some mistresses, so as not to discriminate against them.
How many commercials are we up to now?

Hell, for that matter by refusing to use the word "Christmas in public" we're discriminating against JESUS!

I think people have to stop catering to the minorities and start being all accepting. Go multiculturalism!

Omg this is tarded ppl should just accept each others differences even if you dont support what they are doing
I mean in my school everyone says thing like *jew* gay* *fag* as insults to
ppl now have much more important things to do than worry about this.

That was a pretty worthless post for IR Chigro

If your going to post here please realize that you need to try to be serious and post intellegently. Your post didnt really offer anything more to the discussion.

I thought that the point was that Britain cares so much about the point of being "correct" and not offending anyone that its getting ridiculous and stupid. If it isn't, can you be good enough to tell me what the point was?

I think the reasons for people doing things like this isn't because they think the minorities will be offended, but because they are afraid of being percived as predjudice (which they probaly are)
They may also be doing it because they are afreid of being sued for discrimination

normal kids shouldn't have to suffer because of fat kids

England is a christian country, so anti christian prejudice is just stupid. if anything of christianity offends people, then why are they in a christian country? I wouldn't go to asia, and then complain because the religion(s) there offended me
and if christmas offends you, you dont have to celebrate it

how the f*ck can pictures of mairred couples offend straight people?!?
those hetraphobic fags >: [ ( : P )
Im sure far more people would be offended at pictures of non-straight couples though, as straight couples are more common by far

As much as I like using the term hetraphobic, the earlier statements in your post could be taken the wrong way... At least people try to be all inclusive and not offend anybody. That's more than I can say about you, Billy. I'm quite sure there is a more intelligent manner you could have said that in and been just as effective.

But really, I think Political Corectness has gone much too far in today's society and the average person should not only try not to be offensive, but also keep in mind what is really important.

I mean, let a chairperson be called a chairman, and let "man" be the generic term for huperson. There's being accepting, and understanding, but there's also obsessing and going way too far. Long in short, although it is dumb sometimes, there is a line, and my point is each individual should make an effort to be a little bit more accepting.

People need to get their feelings hurt and deal with it. Stop being such babies. If it offends you go kill yourself by jumping over a bridge, no one will likely care. I really hate those "politically correct" people who allways are perfect and all that stuff, its sooo fake! Can't you just be a real person and give a little, take a little? You get your way, they get theirs, COMPROMISE or something.

That's just plain old anti-Christian.
The US is just like that. Always politically correct with everything. What we should be saying is, "Well, if it offends fat kids, non christians, gays, or the communist party, SUCKS FOR YOU!"
There is no need for all that political junk.
