View Full Version : Bush Propaganda Outed
According to the BBC, the following "poem" was found in a Pakistani Textbook, and has since been removed.
Patient and steady with all he must bear,
Ready to meet every challenge with care,
Easy in manner, yet solid as steel,
Strong in his faith, refreshingly real.
Isn't afraid to propose what is bold,
Doesn't conform to the usual mould,
Eyes that have foresight, for hindsight won't do,
Never backs down when he sees what is true,
Tells it all straight, and means it all too.
Going forward and knowing he's right,
Even when doubted for why he would fight,
Over and over he makes his case clear,
Reaching to touch the ones who won't hear.
Growing in strength he won't be unnerved,
Ever assuring he'll stand by his word.
Wanting the world to join his firm stand,
Bracing for war, but praying for peace,
Using his power so evil will cease,
So much a leader and worthy of trust,
Here stands a man who will do what he must.

Wow, that's pretty random. Maybe it was made by someone other then the U.S. government? Because in all honesty I doubt the U.S. government would do something that stupid.

You know Xenon, if you hadn't bolded the first letter of every line, I probably wouldn't have seen that.
I'm guessing it's more likely an attempt from some group in Pakistan to gain favor with the Bush Administration. Or else the CIA felt like making a funny. "Let's see what we can get inserted into foreign textbooks!" Actually, that does sound somewhat fun.

Was that written about bush or something? It sounds like some sort of propaganda for Bush if you think about it.

I highly doubt that something that carefully crafted can just happen coincidentally.
Let's face it - a poem called the Leader, which speaks about all these wonderful traits of an excellent leader, complete with a subliminal message that spells out "President George W Bush". It was deliberate.

i'm still not convinced....
Maybe the poem was sarcasm. Or it could have been a propaganda device...

Hmm, that is interesting. When I read it the first time, I simply thought of the poem describing President Bush (which is why I found it slightly repulsive). I didn't even think about in terms of a general leader, as I didn't know it was titled differently. I wrongly assumed that it was apparent that the poem was about Bush.
And I highly doubt that having "President George W Bush", with the middle initial, is simply a coincidence.
"Prez Bush" "US President" maybe, but not that exact name. :/

Yes.
Honestly, what kind of textbook publisher would stoop so low? There is no way that it was an accident.

It'd be interesting to find out who was responsible for that propaganda. Is it some US government organization? Some parts of Pakistan are strongly anti-US, while the majority is neutral. Who would want to slip in pro-US poems? What could they have been striving for?
(That's what I think makes it interesting)

I'm uninterested because its effects are so completely irrelevant. Few, if any people would connect the two, and if poetry there is received with the same lukewarm apathy that is received here, it stands about .0000000000000000000000000000000000000001% chance of influencing anybody's opinion of anything.

Maybe, but this combined with the microwaves beamed down from space and Coors Light commercials will see us all turned into zombies.
Pakistan is a strange place considering the government loves the US, but the people hate it. (according to some recent american-hate poll.)
The education system there can sometimes be screwy. I dont know if the books are standard throughout the country, but many books that children are made to learn have strong anti Hindu and anti Jew propoganda in them. Unfortunately, Anti-Hindu is usually seen to be exactly the same as anti-Indian, which isnt actually so.
Meh. But i suppose the textbooks in Gujrat are no better. I hear some books praise Hitler and stuff.
