As I read some of the posts here, I realized that there is a TON of spam. I just want to use this thread to say to people: please dont spam with random crap. I mean, its ok to make a joke sometimes, but this is getting really out of hand (see mtank's WinXP suggestions thread in General Forum > Member's Lounge). There are some really useless posts there....at least they should be deleted or something. Please, I really like warboards...after charles convinced me to join, i thought that there would be no spam, flaming, etc.

There is no flaming and other nasty crap like that...but spamming, there is plenty of. So please: mods/admins - delete spammy threads, thats why you are there, right? and members - don't spam. Its not fun to click on a thread about WinXP and find stuff like:

Endless amounts of chatbot < Spam < The internet < MSPaint < Warcraft < StarCraft < Calculator < 16-bit DOS < 32-bit DOS < NT kernel < Duddits < Room size computer
Not saying its just his fault, some one else started it.

Sorry for the long post. I just thought I should express my opinion....

Given the large community and diverse threads, I think it's somewhat hard to keep spam under control. It's much easier at a small forum like Fenguin Forums. Spam is, to some degree, inevitable.(On a side note: for those wondering, charles = Fenguin) Besides, the random, comical, spammish posts are part of what make a forum great. But RoP has a very good point, it does tend to grow in excess in a few spots. Maybe it's time to open up another Moderator and/or Senior Moderator position?

I agree. When I came, everything was neat and tidy. Nowadays for the past week or two everything has gotten out of control. Some people, I think should be banned, go here http://www.warboards.org/showthread.php?t=1295 (Half-Life-Sucks is the person. I don't play half life so I had no bias). Also people's spelling has gone out of control. Not to point you out duddits but the post above me is very badly spelled and I know you did it on purpose. Duddits is not the only one though. There are many others. Also there is ALOT of spam. So many spam threads that no one cares about. Many people are just joining to make one thread and then they never come back. Duddits your drunken joke(I am not sure it is a joke, is it? I read at some thread that you really do drink) is funny and all but put that your drunk in your sig or something and stop spelling bad on purpose. Maybe a few spelling errors is ok but the post above was very carelessly written. I can help out the warboards community if needed

I also noticed the titles to threads in the members lounge and starcraft debriefing room are getting VERY BAD. The titles are almost not even related to the topic.

One thing that needs to happen, in my opinion, is clamping down on threads that could only attract spam and more spam. Like Duddits' Hahahaaa!! (http://www.warboards.org/showthread.php?t=1272) thread.

it WILL grow to be a problem...
but i think that this is expected while the board is in the primary growing phase...Once WB becomes bigger and Mods start cracking down on offenders and shooting off their ban cannons more it'll automatically quieten down

Well, we truly need to make a decision, do you want this to be a heavily moderated board, where you can't have even the slightest amount of fun, or do you wish to make this a carefree and enjoyable board?

Personally, I feel that heavy handed moderation leads to bent feelings and loads of animosity, which in turn leads to greater problems, such as aggressive spam attacks, which are much more unpleasant than anything you have experienced here to this date.

I never meant to point out a certain person or say that 'WE MUST ALL STOP SPAM, OTHERWISE, THE END IS NEAR....' or something like that... I was just expressing my opinion and seeing how many people seemed to agree/disagree with me...

Though I see where you are going about how this thread is "wrong", I don't see a problem with it. It isn't spammy and is on topic (i.e. Blizzard vs Seirra) most of the way there. He isn't asking for us to sign up and go to his 'OMFGF 1337 WEBBPAGEZ BORDSS!!' or anything. Just pointing out that you need to register to vote. The asking to join their forum/visit their site people though, I don't like them. They should not be banned though. They should get a warning and have the thread cleaned and closed or deleted. They shouldn't be banned however. If they only choose to post 1 post, feel bad for them... they are missing out, not us.

Not to point you out duddits but the post above me is very badly spelled and I know you did it on purpose. Duddits is not the only one though.
Hey, you can't talk bad about my spelling near then end of last night. I was quite happily shit-faced with a grand total of 14 cans of Busch lite in me.

Personally, I am in favor of the easy modding like it is right now. We haven't had any bad mass spam or and mass Goatses or Tubgirl postings. I only can remember 3 porn-like posts that have been made. The spam we are dealing with (though I am contributing to it-- I haven't posted in the WAYLT in awhile though ^^) isn't bad. I'm sure there are a few missionarys out theree who will nit-pick and cry at the smallest spam post (NOT TALKING TO ANYONE!! JUST SAYING ~~), but whatever. They are part of the WB community and the world's community throughout history (read up on the Roman Catholic Church, Salem Witch burnings, or the Puritans).

Ah yes, the major issue of spam.

It's a very hard thing to deal with in all honesty. What would you say to do, warn/ban offenders or let it slide? Even nice warnings or a heads up can rub folks the wrong way, nobody likes to be critized right?

I can't say we have the biggest problem on the Internet/forum sites with spam, I'll send you in a pm some horrible examples of forums that has spam in it. Sites however that have lower amounts of Spam, often post less, because everyone will either agree or not build on thoughts, or take such a long time to post that the posts become very low, and the board suffers.

Spelling? Doesn't matter too much ;) some folks really don't care how they spell as lnog as teh piont waht teh maen is raeched.

Yes but that took me 2 reads to understand and it might have taken a 3rd read if your whole paragraph was that way. Oh yeah I noticed that you spelled good this time and I could understand what you meant. ALso I chose a wrong thread to point out that was a bad one. There are much worse but I didn't have time to search for them so I took the first one I saw and that was http://www.warboards.org/showthread.php?t=1295.

Just kidding! heh, I know how you feel on that issue, nothing worse than a compulsive bad-speller, but generally the user base will deal with that person quickly enough.

Regarding the thread on HL, are you referring to the poster: HALF-LIFE SUCKS? Well, do you think that HALF-LIFE SUCKS will be around for a long long time? Even after the Gamespy contest is over? Looking it over...the thread isn't all....that bad. The spam is lower, there is an actual debate going on between who seems to be Dark_warhawk and those who feel SC should have beat Diablo, it's staying as a nice debate too. Are you referring to something else in the thread though? umm.....*shrugs*

Don't worry RoP, I really doubt that the Staff here would allow Goatses or Tubgirl postings anytime soon.

And I don't like ruining people's fun with heavy moderation, because spam to one person might not be spam to another.
