Wal-Mart is helping to celebrate the 106th anniversary of the release of Quake 4 for the Xbox360. Yes, the release is going to celebrate the old 106 in just over a month, which as you can see was released on the second-to-last day of the 19th century.

So, that brings up the question of how old is a game before it is considered old? According to Wal-Mart, a game gets to its teens after 6 days, and by 106 years, it is considered 'mature.' Quite sensible.

Maybe it has something to do with Thanksgiving or some special seceret day in history that has no significance to the common mind. Like the invention of the rubber ducky or something...

My great grandpa played Quake 4 on the Xbox 360 back in the day. He told me how great it was, back in his gaming prime. And wow, I had no idea the internet was around back then. How old is Al Gore?

It could have been the invention of aspirin.
Or the paper clip
or maybe just the highest recorded cricket score...
we may never find out.

Hahaha. Thanks for the good laugh pixels. For some reason I said that in some old English man voice and made myself laugh.
And that, is why we should all shop at Wal-Mart!

Ah, so that's what they did back in 1899. I've always wondered how they survived without videogames.
Why does everyone revert to a British accent when talking in olden times?

Hehe. Seriously, Fenguin (and to bring this thread somewhat back on topic), where do you find this kind of thing, anyways? I can't imagine you thumbing through hundreds of pages in search of these rare gems of absurdity.
Props to you, anyways. :)

That is just plain wierd. 1899? I don't remeber there being any games back then. Video games were not invented until 1905, by Herbert Schneelstover, my neighbor. That add is obviously mistaken.

Maybe I should keep my suspicions out of this thread.

My brother experienced the same thing, but when he was creating his account on the Xbox website. It simply would not allow him to change his birthday from the year 1799 or whatever it was. So apparently, he's 206 years old.
Nice find, in any case.

Ha ha ha. Awesome.
Remember when somebody on the street tried to sell Napoleon's boots to me. Lol, I'd have to pay approximately $1500, and besides, they'd prolly be quite bad by now.
