Hey!

Anyways I was just thinking after seeing a backstab topic elsewhere, that I get really paranoid in games....

Well mostly Warcraft/Starcraft (backstabbing in diablo ii aint that easy >_>)

Anywho... This is also something besides just team strats...

I find myself doing the following things in team games;

Not only protecting myself against the enemies (whatever that means for that particular game) but secretly protecting myself against my allies whenever I get that 'vibe' that he/she might backstab... Sometimes I am wrong (I admit) but more often then not I am right, and at some point in the game, they will backstab, or try to screw me over...

So, does anyone else play like that?

And my second part, is that in UMS-Like games, and sometimes normal starcraft games... I get a little wierd. Some people go straight for the win at any cost -- as fast as possible. But I prefer to take my time -- even retreating to give the other player a chance or three. I really enjoy games that last for awhile -- not just games I win.

Have you ever played a really long game that you not only lost, but you had fun in regardless of the lose? I have, and I really enjoy those games. Now don't get me wrong, I love it more when I win, but they are afterall just games. Besides, those loses can also help you be better for future games...

I thought about sticking this in starcraft or warcraft areas, but since its about both games (mostly warcraft custom maps and starcraft ums/melee games) I thought I would stick it here, since technically it could apply to other games as well.

Maybe I will move it later :P

So, does anyone else do this? Or am I just a freak? O_o;;

No, I tend to find that team killers nowadays are rather rare, but even when they do turn up, they tend to announce themselves at the start. What I do is - if they haven't said it already, they're not going to do it. Never failed me before!

Yes! Just play a game in Warcraft (2v2) and go mass invis Mortars/Bats. It works some of the time, but you have a fun game regardless! ;)

My online strategy game experience is limited to Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War.

Since there is no fear of backstabbing there, i dont find myself protecting my allies. :)

I have had some memorable games, though. Like 1-1.5 hours long. Those were pure bliss, though i didnt lose either of them.

We once played a 2v2v2v2, where each player was more than a few kliks away from his ally. I took down an enemy quick, and his ally crumbled to my ally. The other 2 teams fought against each other and one came out on top, and then both of them attacked my ally while my army was halfway over the map. I had to rush to his aid, luckily he managed to hold out long enough. We fought them back, regrouped, and attacked them at a foward outpost they had massed their armies at. We were defeated, and then the enemy regrouped and attacked, and we fought them back. Then we attacked, and both sets of armies were almost completely destroyed. This was when my ally thought of something new. I attacked again, keeping the enemy army occupied for as long as possible, while my ally teleported his army right into their base using a clever technique. It worked, and he managed to draw to himself half the enemy army, which allowed me to defeat the other half and come to his aid.

That game was heaven.

Another one involved a 6 player FFA. I attacked the player next to me like 4 times, and was beaten back each time. Then, I let him go and focussed on the other players. After some time, there were only 3 players left. I had some units hidden near the centre of the map, and when i saw that the player next to me was attacking this other really powerful player, I waited until they met in pitched battle and killed most of each other' armies. Then i attacked the base of the guy next to me and took it out with ease. I knew that time was everything, since I couldnt allow the last guy to recoup. Luckily, I managed to pull it off, and emerged the winner. :)

Those are the only two memorable games Ive had. But im sure there will be many, many more.

If I was playing Starcraft, I would, but in games like Halo 2 or Guild wars, allies can't really backstab you without screwing themselves over. So I just play to win in those games without worrying about my teammates.

So, does anyone else play like that?yea, me

Gannon we lost cus one of my allies was kinda a n00b but it was still fun

It was fun noce, when I backstabbed my ally in a WCIII game. The reason? Well, he was just no use.

You should learn to play Diplo with your Spidey sense of backstabbing, it's a useful skill.

I especially enjoyed this one Cat and Mouse Crystal game in BW, and the only thing special about it is that mice is super fast, and cats are a bit faster than normal. I don't know how that worked, but it was awesome. One player tried to exploit it by surrounding the cats with invincible pylons before they can escape, but i purposefully misput a pylon so there was a gap that the cats can go through. Basically, almost everyone kept getting killed, but I was the evasive one and saved them over and over again. It was one of the best games we've played, as said by some of the other players. Even though we got creamed in the end when I died :3.

winnin isn't everything. its the only that that matters.

I hold the opinion that someone who didn't know the thrill of winning said that.

Anyways, I'm usually one to be more trusting and, as such, am usually unprepared for a BS. Except in diplo, in which I know trusting people is a bad thing.

Winning is everything. How you do so is completely uninteresting.

I trust noone except close personal friends. I remember a 3 Hour 8 player SC game on Primeval Islands..

We made our own gametype - 'Who's the bitch?'

You attack players and if you defeat them, you leave their command center and 'assimilate' them into your army. The only thing that keeps them at bay is your army, and your other allies armies. Also, you're not allowed to attack someone weakened by another player until they get to Hive with Zerg, Starport with Terran, or Spaceport with Protoss. I ended up having bases in the entire lower half, (I was Protoss, and I made my bitches share resources, and kept them at bay with DT's no shared vision. :D) I told my underlings to attack the remaing three players. They lost all of their units, but to a dire loss of the other three players. I then steamrolled them with Carriers, Scouts, and Corsairs beefed up with D-Matrix. I assimilated them, and thus won the game.

I love long drawn out resource consuming battles. It makes me sigh with nostalgia..
