Okay now i've been playin starcraft for a while now, and im prettycomfortable with map making and understand most of everything. But one thing i've been wanting to know is how people edit the way the map looks. For example. The 'bound' games that i see. First thing you have to do is run down a strip of metal plating without getting caught by the explosion. But the plating is a perfect block? in ohther words it doesnt look as if it was made with staredit but some other program. another thing I noticed when i try to open the map to check out the triggers and stuff, staredit will not let me. it also tells me to check and make sure the file is a valid starcraft map file or somthing like that.
What gives?
Can anyone tell me how to make these kind of maps. And if i need some other program can you tell me where to get it?
I'd really appreciate it thanks. :worship:

Kindly goto the SCMD forum.
1) The "square" terrain you see is exactly that. Sqaure. It can be created with StarForge.
2) When you cannot open a map, it's because it's been protected. Mutiple programs can do this. GUEdit, StarForge, and PROEdit are all programs that are able to "Lock" maps. If you want to get techinical, locking a map makes the program delete a part of the map that StarEdit uses, but not StarCraft itself.
You can obtain StarForge here: teamse.x-boxnight.com

That can be obtained with any special map editor (SCXE, Starforge, SCMDraft 2, and a few other obscure ones; those three are my favorite and most-used).
With SCXE, you copy and paste the black bar/weird symbol and paste it. With Starforge, you just click on the color. Note that some colors do not allow for certain orders (besides gray/invisible).

The Starcraft XtraEdit software was already mentioned, so I'll critique your map if you don't mind.
First off, I think its good that you kept it within the starcraft universe. It involves Terrans, Zerg... just in a world set on the faded line of Starcraft and Use Map Settings. I'm kind of a perfectionist, so that drives me to kind of not liking those types of maps that call Marines "Undead Archers." Anyway, I so far like the setup of it, it seems to me its taking place when the Terrans are not completely aware of the Zerg, am I correct? Around the time the first campaign takes place when people have heard reports of the Zerg, but most Terrans have not seen one themselves?
Now, lets discuss some of the technical aspects. First and foremost, there's a few bugs which need addressing. They are quick little things that you might have easily overlooked or something, so no worries I'm not going to murder your map or anything. I noticed that the Green terran, which I like to call the "Cinematic Team" because these guys appear to be the heavily scripted computers which tell the story vividly with actions performed through triggers. Woah, got off on a tangent, back to what I was originally saying. The Green Terrans arent set as allies FOR the player. I know you set them to not fire upon the player, but, the player does fire upon them. I've done this countless of times before in my Use Map Settings levels, you forgot to set a "Set Alliance Status" trigger for the player to set "Player 8" to "Ally/Allied Victory." Its just generally a good idea to set your Cinematic Team as allies of the player, to avoid confusion.
Lets dazzle the effects of the player landing and saving the day for the patrol team a little. When your dropship lands your unit, the dropship should immediately bolt out of the way so the player can find his guy easier(it took me a few seconds to realize I had a unit) and get to business. (I think they forgot to make Stukov's autotargetting, so you need to target everything yourself) You might consider creating a location off over that ridge with a title like "RemoveDropShip01" once your unit is spawned you can use an "Order" trigger to move the Dropship to that new Location, and it can either be removed, or just never used again and out of view.
Lets talk about your "Star Unit" the Alexei Stukov unit which you've dubbed a Commando. Well, he seems a little strong. Perhaps you can lower his hit strength, or armor?
BTW, is this map going to have a town of some sorts? Like an area where you can upgrade your Commando, and general refuge? I feel sort of lost in role playing maps like this without a town so I just wonder around, ultimately getting bored.
The quest involving the Protoss Orphans, are they supposed to follow you, or do you gain control of them once the leader tells you he needs to bring them to the Orphanage? It might be easier to give power to the player to navigate them there, and make a Trigger that says something like "If: Player1 suffers one or more losses of Protoss Orphan Then: Result in Defeat for current player" that way the player wont do something stupid like just leave the orphans laying around to get slaughtered.
That was a good find for the player... the datadisk thing. That sounds like an oppertunity to upgrade your character! Good call.
Heh, whats with the archons that spawn in the middle right of the map? I walked into the teleporters and went into the canyon like "well... wonder wha-"*BOOM* "oh shite! Big archons! OH SHITE! CLOAK! woo." Those guys made a nice enterance... I'm guessing they're a sort of boss fight? Intriguing.
Speaking of which... Cloak pwns all in this map. Perhaps it should have some sort of limitation integrated into it? Maybe a very large innicial usage drain? Or strategically placed detectors for the "bread and butters." Meaning the units which you will be fighting A LOT.
Looks promising...:)
Edit: Woah. I just noticed the first poster and the guy that posted this map are different people. Sorry for the *MAJOR* thread hi-jack. Well, to the guy that made the map: Hope you like my thoughts. To the guy that made the thread: My appologies for taking the thread over, and I hope you figured out how to use the terrain correctly.
BTW, I just thought of some insite for you, Tsuguru. Bound maps are *HEAVILY* scripted. They involve a lot of creativity for traps which the player has to traverse. And... they involve a lot of patience. I hope you have admirable skills in scripting your triggers to work in unison like the normal Bound maps do, and I hope you have creativity and patience. You should start out, with a general idea of your map. What kind of traps are you going to have? In what order will you traverse them in? What kind of unit will your "bounder" be? Most traps in Bound maps are explosion orriented (or has that changed since the last time I played one?) So you're going to have to get your timing right, which might be painstaking.

I don't remember... did I say anything along the lines that I know its an early project, but I was just offering a little bit of early help so you dont have to catch this stuff later? Hope I didn't come off to strong and pessimistic. If I didn't, I'm sorry, hehe. :)
