Why o why dont blizzard enlighten us with 56k modems in down under with a gateway to a faster world called Battle.net? who there agree with me?
If they opened a precedent to Australia, every other country could demand for one too. Alas, the attitude "we're better than everyone else" comes to mind and that might start some peyty feud disputes over it. <_<
And I'm saying this even also having a 56 KBds modem at my laptop. There are better alternatives than having a specific server, especially when considering that if every aussie went there that would only isolate'em from the rest of the online ganming community, imo. ;)

but not as much as america, and they've got one
The other major blizzard game playing contenents have them, so why not Australasia?

The US servers act as the rule's exception, imho... afterall that was the country were it was launched 1st and most game author companies come also from there anyway.
And I believe that those servers are filled with folks from most places around, just not solely the American continent fellas (or the U.S. ones for that matter). :P
At best the server you want might be called Oceania, because Australia isn't exactly the intire continent you preach of. ;)

Hey, im from New Zealand and i have a h 56k modem shared over the network. the nearest gateway is ASIA, and i cant understand what they are saying so i get either kicked, banned, or i cant join because of the lag!!!

*Ahem*

Like buying another alternative options perhaps (as in, ADSL modem and TV cable service providers' Net for only a couple)?

I asume you ment to say Australasia, because Australia is a country, not a contenent.
Mabey the reasons they dont have many B.net/online players is because the nearest server would probably give them lag, and like shortyland05 said, because they dont speak asian

But alternative options like this aren't open to everyone though

Im saying yes there should, but blizzard isn't going to spend money to open a server in Australia, StarCraft is dieing, it won't do the company any good.

My assessment on it as well. Hence my previous posts in that sense. :)

13th vote and the deciding vote! I voted yes, and i'm sure Rhino would agree. There's no good reason why they shouldn't I reckon, so why not?

What are you babbling about??! None of that is right, so button your lips if it's only "your opinion" (t3h holocaust way)
1. There are sponsors that keep up the servers, not blizzard. I don't know by sure the names of the companies, but for example europe is hosted by Telia, and I'm pretty sure it isn't part of blizzard.
2. Starcraft is not dieing. It's all the time growing, even now. there are over 1 000 000 gamers playing starcraft at korea, over 300 000 in china, and also really many in other countries, like Germany, and U.S (not to mention other countries
Well.... Overall, though, no reason to open on australia. Why?
There are not that many players over there, really. Less than in many other countries (for example, sweden, which doesn't have it's "own" gateway). What's the point in opening an gateway to australia then? so that 30 or 50 players actually play there, I mean australians. Why can't the australians live in other gateways? Why does it have'to be on their own gateway?
Besides, Why should it have one?

Ahzz it sounds like your making up your own opinions too. True, Blizzard has sponsors for those kind of things, but do you honestly think they'll wast their money for another server for StarCraft? Yes. StarCraft sold all those games becouse it was populare.
Really, many people are leaving StarCraft. I got a lot of friends that stop playing StarCraft. Even here, Fronter said he quit StarCraft becouse it was boring. Toonami: Lots of SC players ARE leaving, a lot of the people I played with have already quit... what we have left is hardly a great community... but that's not the point. I wasn't even referring to that. I was asking who is still into SC... as people DO move on in life.I like StarCraft too, but be real, your being too much of a StarCraft addict;
Biography:
Brood war is my life... (http://www.warboards.org/member.php?userid=3272)
sure, and you can't understand jokes I see. Many people are leaving SC, but belive me, it's atleast the same amount of people coming in. Really many are leaving starcraft 'cause they get bored with the UMS maps. There are alot of those, but the people who play melee (1v1/possibly some 2v2) multiple the ums people easily. And there are all the time more people coming to that.
BTW, fronter was more of a ums player. I know tons of people leaving sc who play ums, but not so many who play melee, or atleast not for the reason that it "bores"...
If some of my friends have left sc (melee, 1v1 in proper maps), it's because it was for their own good, (school, broodwar took too much time). They still like starcraft.

it has the european one, because it's in europe, australia and newzeland (and all the other australasian places) dont have one, because they're not in north america, europe, or asia

Oh yes, I would agree!
I usually connect to US West. I think it'd be cool, but the honest thing is, I don't think there are that many Australian and New Zealand players, because the channels aren't it's not 100% necessary. I can play American people and I don't really feel lag even though I'm a pacific ocean away from them. Usually it's someone else in the game who's lagging lol
What Battle.net server provides the best connection?
When you connect to Battle.net you are automatically connected with the fastest available server in your location.
How do Gateways and Realms on Battle.net work?
Gateways, or Realms in Diablo II, on Battle.net are divided into in four regions: Asia, Europe, U.S. West & U.S. East. The Gateways are named to clearly indicate where the closest Gateway server to you is located--directing you to the best connection and play experience. While it is best to choose the Gateway closest to your geographic location, you are not restricted to any particular Gateway. You can choose to connect to any Gateways.
AT&T hosts the US East & West Gateways.
TeliaSonera hosts the Europe Gateway.
Dacom hosts the Asian Gateway.
If you happen to know a major telecommunications company in the South Pacific, Australia region willing to offer their backbone service for battle.net, then I'm sure Blizzard would be more than willing to add them onto their available gateways. ;)

Telecom is the main communications provider in New Zealand, i dont know about Auzzie though. i doo hope that they do open a gateway for australaisa (or pacific) and it might awaken a few Starcraft fans that have gotten 'bored' of starcraft and cant go on the bnet.

Instead of sitting infront of your monitor, write them an e-mail about it.

mabey he just wanted to find out what other people had to say before contacting blizzard. He would look stupid if he had asked blizzard about it, only to find there was a commonly known reason why not

Hell, yeah (http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=pedantic). :smirk:
And since you have some sort of irking with me, that I simply don't know where it came from, let's please leave it at that (especially since I won't reply to your provocations in here any longer). :P
So if I live in Australia and go and buy Starcraft, I can't play it on Battle.net? Well I can play Warcraft 3 on there.
In that case I won't buy Starcraft :shiftyl:
You CAN... There are many SC players in australia. It's just that these people are arguing IF Australian SHOULD have an own server

Ok, but I probably won't end up buying it anyway because I didn't like the Demo Version - mainly the graphics. I'm guessing you play Starcraft - are the graphics much better than the demo version? (if you have seen the demo version)?
I have seen the demo version. Well. They're the same, for pretty much.

Gesh, I played the Demo befor. I don't see any differeances about the graphics, but you can only be one race and play the same map again and again on b.net and everyone else there lags.
