Ok, me and a few friends have been playing SC for a few years now over battle.net... We have never played anyone else, just this group of 4. Can someone explain or direct me to some thoughts on how you play with random people??? What I mean is, what if just 2 of us want to play (say the other 2 are busy), is there a place you go in battle.net to say "there is 2 medium skilled folks looking to play a 2 vs 2 game with anyone out there???" How does that work or can you not do such a thing???

Join a clan....that's all you can do.

You just have to play with whoever joins. People will rarely join a game based on somethign you write in the game name. A "2v2 n00bs" can attract the same peoplae as a "2v2 be expertz!!" can. Theoretically you could join a melee clan and play with members of that clan, but many clans don't last for more than a couple weeks, possibly months. All you can really do is play with whoever comes. If you come across some friendly people you want to play again, try to maintain contact using the friends' list so you can play with them again. Generally though, players on Battle.net will have a random level of skill and you don't have much control over who you play with unless you pre-arrange the game.

However, the maps you host can have great influence on who joins a game. For example, the following two game names are obviously going to bring different people:
2v2 $$fastest$$ JOIN!!!11!
2:2 PGT Blade Storm
The colons instead of the v seems to get more koreans, for some odd reason or other. If you see the map hosted on a pgt/wgt/wcg map, it'll be a good map, and the players will probably be pretty good. There are some other ones, too, but those 3 groups are the big ones.

Ok, making sense, thanks for replies:
1) How do you join a clan?
2) Is it best to create a chat room or a game??? I will try this tonight, I just can not picture it in my head... If you create a game, can you create a game with no username and password??? We always use a username and password, just never tried it without one.
3) So to summarize:
We create a game, say 2v2 medium
no username and password
just wait for 2 others to join
you get what you get in terms of people
That make sense???

1- just poke around ard join any games called some thing like "clan recrutement" or some thing like that also you can some times find ppl advertizing clans if not you can just ask ppl
2- if you in a chat room called some thing weird almost no one will join(cus they might not ever know there are ppl in there) also the game question just creat a games called [insert game name here] with no password and make it public
3- yea thats just about what you do

Can you just look at their record? When they show up in the chat screen (the place whith the Ok button, befor you start the game...), when someone joins a game, itl say something like:
StarCraftPlayer
12-21-2
The wins are shown first; 12, loses secounds; 21, and disconnects last; 2.
It will also show their ladder record, if they are in ladder, ladder are for players that won 10 games and can be in some endless tournament. If they show you their ladder, itl have a number between 1-???
; 1 being the best.
My Experiance with other players:
•They don't know you, and you don't know them. Some of them are fine, they fight as a team and they may protect you when your in danger.
•Then there are some players (mostly happens to me in an Korean game,) that don't help you at all. They won't help you even though they could. Loners.
•And there are some pr!cks. People that say crap; really anoyying people. Sometimes
•People that get mad in a game or something you did. Ex, I build 3 photon cannon near my enterance- then one of my allies say, "OMG YOU NOOB, LOOK HES BUILDING PHOTON CANNONS, YOUR SUCH A NOOB!..." then leaves the game... and im like "..."
Playing with other players is a great experiance. Just remember not to trust anyone you think shouldnt be trusted. Be respectful and dont build a lot of photon cannons!

It's useful to know these on Battle.net.

Toonami, records don't mean all that much, really. It merely shows how many games you've played on that account, not factoring in what kinds of games with what kind of players. It also doesn't mean that that's their only account. For example, I host a 2v2 game. The following two people join. Who would you want on your team?
Person A: 824-488-39
Person B: 198-213-15
I think this replay demonstrates it pretty well. I'm FoN-Zuranh.

First off, thanks for all the replies, I am learning!
I just forwarded your offer off to 3 friends the I play with on a regular basis. How do we contact you??? Should we just look for your name (we do play on East BTW) when we log in a night???

Hmm, if you give me their screennames, we can put each other on our friends' list and contact each other from that.
However, if I'm on, I'll probably be in a game, or in channel "clan mos" or "op clankom", without the quotation marks.

Well. Maybe most of 'em. Some newb ppl suddenly decide to make a crappy clan, but suddenly interest for sc stops, lack of members etc and they collapse. For example my clan has been on for over two years already.

You could say the time you normally are on, and then other people try to look at you at that time.

Thanks! I always forget how to spell one of them, a very obscure spelling of something or another... will pm you tomorrow...
