Just announcing that I will be starting a Diplomacy game as soon as the first Diplomacy is over. :) This Diplo, entitled "Symmachia," is a variant located in Ancient Greece at about 500 BC. Hehehe. ;)

I'm not going to show y'all the map until I finalize what each player starts out with. I'll just tell you that *several people* have seen the map already and know where it is located [on the Internet]. Lalala. ;)

EDIT: Guess what this is. http://c.feng.home.comcast.net/diplo.gif :D

People who want to play
1. Werewolf91
2. OboeGuru
3. ChairsSobD
4. ShadowCrusader
5. Subjukator
6. BlackHawk
7. Cygnus
8. Me [or not :p]

BlackHawk

Yea you might want to wait until the first is over. We don't want so many going on at once. But once the first is over you should be fine :).

Valjean

ooo!

*reserves spot in diplo game*

OboeGuru

I'm special and know where the map is. :D
BTW, it is teh pwn.
EDIT: Or it could just be posted for all to see... *shrug*

And I totally reserve a seat in this game. I've seen this grow up from it's infancy, it's like I'm it's uncle! Hehehehe...

You're just a Diplo whore, aren't you Werewolf??? ;)

I am definitely in this diplo game :)

Just some questions that'll probably need clearing up anyway.

For the supply center of Euboea (its NW of Athens), do I need to use a fleet to get there by first going to Sciathos or Gulf of Helena and then go to Euboea OR could I just use an army/fleet to simply move there such as: A Thebes-Euboea

Another question too, this one slightly different. In the upper right corner in Byzantium, the supply center Helles is both an ocean AND a land province that connects to both land (Abydos, Troy, Aen, Lamp, Cyzicus) and to the various seas around it.

Can I use a fleet to enter this supply center from anywhere or could I also do say move an army from the province of Lamp to Helles?

Or (I just thought of this and it probably seemes more obvious) is it just the supply center Abydos in a wierd position? I think it is... ah well, plz just clarify anyways... (damn't! it probably is and I just wasted 10 minutes...)

You have to go to a body of water first.

That SC is part of Abydos.

You wasted 5 of my minutes, give them back!!!!!

Lets just start anyways. That game is almost over with only three major players. And we have enough here that aren't in a lot of other diplo games.

Lets say orders due next Wednesday? That means post player's countries today or tommorow and the map as well.

OboeGuru

Feng, if you need a second game, I volunteer to GM it.

So everybody keep expressing interest!!! :D

Fenguin
04-02-2004, 2:10 PM
Or should I GM both... ;)

Modred

The purpose of not having many games going at once is to prevent certain persons from being in several games, allowing more people to play and thus the community will grow, which will in turn allow us to run more games at once. Posting that "I will host a game when..." and allowing people to sign up ahead of time is not following this principle, and we will eventually come to a standstill like we did at BF. Notice that if you head over to BF, there is only ONE diplo game running. In our three (now four) games, people such as Sub, BH, Oboe, and others are in every game, or at least three of the four.

I don't mean to sound harsh, but we are heading down the same path as before.

OboeGuru
04-02-2004, 4:17 PM
Hmm... good point Modred.

If a newbie to Diplo here wants a spot in this game, I will give mine up, and I suggest that Werewolf and BlackHawk take a similar stance. I think Sub's fine since his last few games haven't been too successful, this can be his good game. ;)

I'll participate as a mentor or as impartial GM if I get booted. I think we should start getting into the habit of having non-player GMs.

Fenguin
04-02-2004, 6:16 PM
Yeah, good points, Modred.

But notice I never said anything about signing up. :D The list on the first post is just people who have expressed interest.

Also, I'm still waiting for a certain Mark L to show up. ;)

I agree if anyone wants to get in this (i.e. PC or someone) when the time comes, I can give up mine if someone that wants to learn how to play wants to join.

Cygnus

I'll fill in the last slot if I could. Or... I could GM it for you so you could play yourself!

Either way's fun for me. :-)

Cygnus
04-03-2004, 3:20 PM
BTW, aren't there only 7 slots since their are seven countries you can play?

Fenguin
04-03-2004, 3:21 PM
Again,
The list on the first post is just people who have expressed interest.
They aren't "slots" to fill up. The list is just a list to see who wants to play and whether we need a second game or not. :D

Cygnus, I believe Fenguin isn't starting this game right now, but waiting until the first is done, then playing. And the "slots" are just there so that he can see who has expressed an interest in playing so he can ask those willing to play if they still wish to when he does start it. Correct me if I'm wrong Fengy.

Yes, I was slightly confused but I believe by what he is implying that he wishes to create two games. Something that isn't exactly being promoted since we want five games or less going on at once.

Fenguin
04-04-2004, 10:12 AM
I'm assuming that everyone on the queue still wants to play. In that case...

I'll just be GMing this game. Orders are due Wednesday night at 8:00 PM.

Nation list:
Werewolf91 - Sparta
OboeGuru - Athens
ChairsSobD - Byzantium
ShadowCrusader - Macedonia
Subjukator - Crete
BlackHawk - Thessaly

Orders PM'ed

BlackHawk
04-04-2004, 10:30 AM
Thesely offers an NAP to: Macedonia and Athens.

And an Alliance with Sparta. Alliance with Crete is accepted.

Btw, this should be a good game, w00t. Also, Fengy what year is it? And should we use T instead of F, and L instead of A?

Subjukator
04-04-2004, 11:28 AM
I justed used A and F. Unless theres a big issue and everyone else uses L and T, I'll alter my next orders accordingly

Valjean

I'm gonna use F and A or else I get confused. O_o

OboeGuru
04-04-2004, 12:16 PM
I'm too cool for A and F so I'm gonna use L and T. :)

Athens offers a NAP to Sparta and accepts Crete's and Thessaly's NAPs.

Athens - Updated

T Athens -> Gulf of Helena
L Thebes -> Charonia
L Corinth -> Argos

OOC:Sorry to say, I do not know much of Macedonia except Aristotle escaped to it and it was conquered many times over. Other then that, I know it is on the fringe of Greece. If you could get me a link, it would be very helpful. If anything this is the first thing I will do.

IC:

-Offers Alliance to Thessaly and Byzantium.

Fenguin
04-06-2004, 9:10 PM
OOC: Here's a link for learning about Macedonia: http://www.makedonija.info/ancient.html. But there really isn't much to know about Macedonia, except that 1) it's my favorite Greek city-state (for undisclosed reasons) and 2) led by Alexander the Great, the Macedonians took over much of Greece and Asia Minor. After Alexander died, the kingdom was split between his generals, who squabbled over them. One of the generals was Ptolemy, who was an ancestor of Cleopatra. ;)

Just so that you know (correct me if I'm wrong, of course) but it appears you think this is a game of BF Politics. Because there is no real reason to learn about Macedonia, though it could be interesting :).

Either way, Alliance accepted :).

Cygnus
04-06-2004, 9:51 PM
Actually perhaps he learns about the nations he plays. Games like these can help you learn about the past by making you want to understand the world your nation and it's people existed, and how you must play in it.

BlackHawk
04-07-2004, 3:59 PM
ShadowCrusader, if you don't know how to play and that's why you haven't submitted your orders yet, I recomend this (http://ry4an.org/diptutor/) tutorial, it's where I learned to play.

OboeGuru
04-09-2004, 4:45 PM
Unless a replacement comes before orders, we should keep playing through while his units hold position. It's the only fair thing for the rest of us.

A replacement could really jump in at any time with Fenguin's approval.

I'm sure he'd appreciate it if everybody just turned in orders ASAP, and disregarded a due date.

I clearly said the orders would be due Monday night, if not later.

Um... no... what the freak are you talking about?

Let's see... when I posted the "orders are now due monday" thing, we were in the turn for Fall 499. CLEARLY, since my post was AFTER the map for Spring 499 and so was for FALL. Therefore, I posted that map on time. So what's this "last map delayed by 3 days" business? Just your own miscalculation. I have never made a map late, foo.

Spring 498 BC -- Fenguin Open
Summary
Something tells me that I'll have to rebalance the game against Persia... poor Crete. :(
Persia sends out a bunch of units. So does Thessaly. Athens dares to go near Sparta, but Sparta was a slacker and so didn't move, leaving Sparta wide open. :( Also, Crete gets more stuff, and sends phe'zo fleets out into open seas. All this occured while Zeus was smoking in the Olympian bathroom. ;)

Something tells me that I'll have to rebalance the game against Persia... poor Crete. I'd actually have to say that you're wrong, you see I would never have attacked Crete in the first place if there had not been so few centers.

Suggestions: try to not give Byzantium so many free centers out of Persian reach. Maybe perhaps as well change in the territories would "protect" Crete but don't weaken Persia anymore than it already is.

No extra units for me, dammit, I could have defended against Athens, stupid me and not posting, ARG! Well, I'm basically screwed for this round now, maybe more. Athens will most likely whittle me down... ouch...

EDIT: This time I'm going to get my orders in early, so that I may not be defeated by not giving orders. I'll get my orders in tomorrow.

EDIT: Okay, I'm making a word document with all my games, with all my alliances and NAPs, and when the orders are due so that this will not happen again.

EDIT: I realized now that if I had come here right when I got back, I would have been able to post orders. Ouch, that hurts, why did I wait so long to come to Diplo?

Hmm, and ignore you, the most powerful nation with 10 SC's. Seems odd, do you wish them to defeat me so that it's those two against you, therefore you can easily wipe them out? Maybe it is us that should be helping Crete against your advances? I believe you think they are but sheep willing to walk towards the slaughter house for Farmer Persia to stab.

Cygnus
04-26-2004, 9:20 PM

BlackHawk

Well, about those "SC's Thessaly will take from both Athens and Sparta" are currently being taken up with those who need to know. Either way, I'm sure it won't matter, you will continue gaining on your side unchallenged while we squabble amongst ourselves. My gains in this turn will not compare to those you make over the next few years when Crete succumb's to your rule, and you rule the East unchallenged. I will let the Emperors of Athens and Sparta decide on this matter, hopefully they will make the wise choice.
