Google is supposed to be coming out with a free e-mail service and i have to say i'm pretty excited :). I'm a yahoo email user because the emoticons are so great. If the google emoticons don't cut it then i'm not sure if i'll use it. Does anyone have more info on Gmail?

TheGreatBrain

Well, I wouldn't use it, but still that sounds pretty cool.

I think email service judged on emoticons is moronic.
Otherwise, I look forward to whatever Google might offer.

Can I search my emails for stuff?

AJ

Google's service, called "Gmail," will include a built-in search function that will let people search every e-mail they've ever sent or received.

I think email service judged on emoticons is moronic. LOL.
But hey if you use them a lot, go for it.

I used to use my yahoo account until it filled up with garbage, so I switched to hotmail. No spam so far (knock on wood) but the hotmail attachment interface and restrictions are kind of bogus and annoying. If gmail comes out it better be cool...or else.

I'll need a new spam-free account soon enough, so hopefully GMail will be released around that time. Also, $10 says that function AJ mentioned above is available to paying customers only >_<.

It *could* be an April Fool's joke, but it isn't particularly funny (unlike PigeonRank and past google pranks) and it's actually quite feasable. Plus, they bought the gmail domain for several country suffixes already. I think it's real.

Time will tell I suppose.

WeekendLazyness@google.com.
Sounds nice, but they don't offer a full 1GB. Their service offers 1000MB, a full 24MB short.

But the real question is that do I really need a sixth e-mail address? I could always get rid of that awful Hotmail, I guess.

Dark_Warhawk
04-01-2004, 5:27 PM
Well I don’t think hotmail is bad, they just don’t offer enough room. Yahoo on the other hand… I get so much junk in that I don’t even check it anymore.

Graeme

$10 says it will be available for free

Hmm, let's go with CAD, since I'm way too lazy to ever do the conversion :p.

Anyway, I don't that hotmail is 'horrible' so to say. I mean, MSN is still my favourite chatting program, and it primarily uses hotmail passports.

How the hell they supposed to give every person 1GB of space, and the service is free?

btw read this http://smh.com.au/articles/2004/03/31/1080544562264.html?from=storyrhs

yeah I agree with hammocksleeper. Kind of seems suspicious. I mean you can host a whole site in there if you wanted to and almost 2 billion people know about google(I just made up that number but I think that is around the number of people who visited google). That would mean they wouldn't have enough space to hold all the information there.

I don't think you two realize how big Google is. They have on average 10,000 servers running with an index of about 4 billion webpages, and more than 200 million searches a day. They have huge amounts of computing power and terabytes of data at their disposal. I think that they are able to handle giving away a gigabyte to a user for e-mail.

Stats gotten from the April 2004 issue of Maximum PC.

What did I tell you!? So my thread wasn't enough, eh? YOU SEE WHAT THEY ARE DOING NOW?!?!?!?

They will take over the communications network now. Slowly, as more and more people use e-mail more and mail less, they will have access to the world's inbox. They will then change it to pay only, and set the amount relitivly low (estimates $3/year). This is so cheap every everybody will say, 'Hey! WTF, why not?!" and send over their credit card numbers to Google because they want their e-mail turned back on. THINK THINK!

They nearly control the flow of information on the internet. Next they will control global communications. Afterwards, OUR ECONOMY!!

Conspiracy! Think think!! Think before you sign up. Google is evil and will become the next skynet.

I hope after they make an Instant Messanger Service and A Easy-To-Use Free Hosting Service. ^_^

And Duddits, it'll be a long time before people completly switch over to email, not to mention not every one has a computer. By the time regualr mail is gone, the new currency will be credits and they'll have a much better payment system online.

I'll think it's cool when we start emailing objects over the internet. That'd be great.

Valjean
04-03-2004, 9:03 PM
heh. E-Shipping. That'll eliminate shipping+handling charges once the technoligy is in place and becomes a normal household object.

E-shipping will like turn everything into molicules then reassemble them.

If you're wondering why no one's been banned and no posts deleted, it's we just don't like clamping down on people's fun. I've always lived by the rule that life is not a maths equation and so there shouldn't be such a thing as a strict rule. Only a strict guideline.

Anyway, I'm not encouraging spam by the way. But I'm not the moderator here, so I have to admit that I don't have the expertise and the sharp eye to moderate these forums.

I was only joking about the banning. Also I like your statement about life not being a math statement. That is a very interesting outlook on life.
