View Full Version : Are you affected by RP's?
The question on the poll is 'Have you cried during//from an RP?' but really, this applies to any and all senses. I will admit, there was an RP I only read, wasn't in, and I cried... It was so beautifully written by many players that I concider far better than even us. They weaved a web of complexity, yet was all still so real. I read through towards the end, and found out that one of the main characters died, and I don't know why, but I actually cried. It's like a movie without pictures or actors. It made me so sad to see her die. I felt so mad at the character that killed her, and through the rest of it, I found myself saying 'You're going to die' and within the last page, he eventually died. Kind of like a Cloud vs. Sepheroth thing... Anyways, have you cried during an RP? And another question to tie to this: Are you affected by RP's at all? As in, do you learn more about yourself, and apply it in everyday life? Do you begin to act like your character once in a while (Brave and fearless, hopefully... Not murderous x.x)
~Larry "Geno" Meyers
P.S. Yes, RP's affect me as well.
--Quick edit-- I know people in this day and age might show weakness by admitting to crying during an RP, so I have closed this poll to views, so if you vote and don't want to be seen, you're safe. ;) Just making sure you know.

Now I've never actually cried while reading / playing in an RPG, but I have gotten attached to some characters, while loathing others. And if an RPG can do that, then god damn, it's probably a pretty good one, and the RPers are good.
But I am affected by RPG's they open up my mind, so to say, and allow me to see life through a different persons view (not just the character but the RP'er as most of us add a bit of ourselves into the character, even if he is some evil massed murderer that is just your 'evil' side coming out). Some have changed my views on certain topics, and have opened my mind on certain issues.
EDIT: W00t 800 posts :).

Yes, I have cried but not for the reason Geno did. I participated in a RP which had a great storyline, great plot, and average on all other bases. But somehow not knowing why, the RP degenerated into nothing. Such a great piece of writing destroyed. That is when I cried.
But I am affected by the story as the rest of the people. I like most kinds of stories. Even romantic at some point.

Ummm... in all seriousness guys, I have never not even once shed moisture from my eyes over an amateurally done RP.
Over a professionally written novel however, I will admit, that I have watered up...

Usually, no.
BTW: As it seems that I don't RP on forums, I do RP on IRC or WC3.

Cried? No. Emotionally affected? Definitely.
I have been RP'ing for a long time. Over 5 years now. I have never done IRC and forum type RP's before, as I feel they lack character interaction and development. I'm more fond of PBeM (Play By e-Mail) RP's.
I consider myself a decent writer. I have been part of an PBeM for 3 years, and when it came to an end, it felt like an end of an epic journey. We had all put our time and effort into this RP, and the complexity, and character interaction was unbelieavable.
Anyways, I don't think I have ever shed tears over an RP. (I'm not trying to be a "Macho-Man" or anything, but I rarely shed tears over much).
I'm a free-agent right now, I guess, looking for an RP to join. Hopefully, I'll find a good one to join soon.

You may get to join my RP when I get to the second part. I can say that it's going to be a large one ;)

I have never really gotten very emotionally involved with a character on forums RPing. I started to get attached to PvR back at BF, but then it started to die out, and I haven't taken the time to get back into it.

Wow, great dedication, Black.Ice. It reminds me when I read all of the ...goddamn ....posts.... urg... at PvR back at BF. I forget how many there was, but it took me so long to read them, over 3 days... Maybe a week. 103 posts are nothing, lets see, there was 100 posts per page... over 5 pages... So at least 500 posts. Then I posted like 5 times and I lost my computer
I'm never going to read all the posts over 2 pages from now on. 3 sometimes.

Yes I have cried, laughted, sworn, and danced because of events in an RP.

RPs may not affect me, but people who bump threads for no reason and with no content do.
