View Full Version : How long have you RP'ed

Thank god for Ender... Saved me there... I was a bit tired when I got back, and didn't think of this until I was just reminded by PM about it... Here's the question for now... How long have you RP'ed? This includes from now back, as long as you can remember. If you took a break for a few months, take that into concideration. Also, how many diffent places do you, or have you RP'ed before? Put that into your post if you'd like to make a comment. Let's get some good feedback here!

I'll start off here. I RP'ed about 5 or 6 years ago before I moved. I only did it for a few months, but I really got into it, thanks to my friend. We only had a few of us, and we RP'ed the same thing forever. I still remember that character, and he is reflected in the character I use now. After I stopped there, I didn't get back into it, until a few weeks before I found Blizzforums. I found a few friends, and we did light RP'ing in PM's alone, which were just short hour long things. Once I reached BF, I got back into it. That's when I got heavy back into it... Now I RP a lot more, and to date, have RP'ed at ONLY two sites, BF and here. Really, though, I love IM RP, which is where you get on AIM or MSN, and RP freely. The story moves fast, you can quicken or slow it, and you have total control. It's nice.

What about you?

Three Years for me. I've rp'd at MANY MANY sites before BF and WB. I even have my own RP site!!

http://caerlona.proboards4.com (http://caerlona.proboards4.com/)

I haven't touched it for about a year because if I were to ever go there again, my past would come back and try to get me sucked in again and I can't have that. (There's a lot of drama that happened that I don't really need to explain......:\)

I had a group of friends back in High School whom I rp'd with. They were the ones that got me into it. I haven't rp'd with them all in a long time though because they got me sucked into it so bad, that I became obsessed with my characters and their's. We soon began developing these ghetto plots. Each of us had our own RP site where we ruled as Queen's or Goddess's or Sorceresses. I rp'd with nine characters all throughout our on-going drama.

I was three Queens, one Amazon (Trinity--Her and Zyanya are the only character's that I have brought to WB and BF), a gate keeper, a Historian, a Sorceress, a daughter of the Goddess, and a local prostitute--All at the same time!! :p

lolz, the last one was funny :p But anywayz, I became so engrossed in fantasy RP that.......I had no life! I began drawing pictures of my characters, I drew a map of Caerlona. I used to RP on PAPER with my ex best friend during class about that website and the seven others that I would RP at, I would write out my plans for RPing during class instead of doing my work, I would talk for hours about my characters with my other friends who had characters........I almost didn't graduate from high school because of that mess.

It was bad--So I quit doing that as soon as I found the RPing here. The RPing here won't suck me in as bad as it did when I had my own site. Cuz these RP's eventually end, the one with my friends didn't, it kept on going. And they still do RP to this day on the same site's. Here they are: (Yes I RP'd at all of 'em)

Intalpy (http://rose.proboards2.com/) <----My ex best friend's site. She is the one who is the Goddess named Rose or whatever.
Asguard (http://death.proboards6.com/) <-----This is my ex best friend's ex bf's site, lolz, this is where we started out and then soon expanded into starting our own Kingdoms....Oh wait a minute, I just checked the link and I guess the admin turned it into some mercenary clan or whatever....What a bummer :(
Caerlona (http://caerlona.proboards4.com/) <-----My site. My site and Intalpy were the most popular with action and drama. I was the Queen there :p
Ragnorak (http://dart.proboards2.com/) <----My homie Sami's site. Her character was one of my character's best friends.
The Underwater City of Dragons (http://dragoonshana.proboards2.com/) <---My homie Ashley's site. Her character and the Goddess Rose were "bound to each other" or something.
Estreal (http://estreal.proboards7.com/) <-----My homie Xeo's site. He was the bf of the Goddess Rose's daughter. His father also dated my character.

There were two more but I can't remember them since I haven't been to them in like.....Two years. One was called Wintell, and the other was the Land of the Faeries.

But anywayz, as you can see, I have quite an RP history. It's because of those site's that I learned how to RP

I voted for 6 - 12, though I think it's less than 6, maybe 5?

And the first time I did was at BF, in Quest of the Dragonhorn. Btw, someones gotta like get that in a .doc file so that I can keep it on my computer, it was good.

And during that I grew much better as an RPer following and learning from the others in their. That was also where my love of Creative writing and RPing started, now that's mostly what I do here :).

It was good, but at the end it seemed to burn because everyong was arguing with each other. =P

well, it was mostly Sub, Doom, and I who did the arguing. Not to mention Bangon got royaly screwed. oh well, I brought him over to Pie Wars, so all is...somehow...right...again...I think...O_o

And Bangon didn't really get screwed he probably had the best death of any RP on either forum. His ghost even got to come back and save the women he loved.

O my goodness... I am the only one that has been RP'ing for more than 4 years? That makes me feel pretty old, thank goodness there was no 10+ years option. I only started RP'ing online in about the last year.

So... none of you have been playing long enough to know what ShadowRun is, have you? Earthdawn? Rifts? DC Heroes? What do you play when not online? White Wolf/World of Darkness? AD&D 2nd or 3rd (or one of the other d20 systems)? GURPS? Rolemaster? Call of Cthulu?

I just got down some of my old ShadowRun books. I bought Shadowrun Third Edition when it was released in 1998... to replace my second edition books. I remeber back in my High school days (I am sure some of you were not born yet *Werewolf91*) I would have to beg for a ride into another town just for 4 and 10 sided dice. I feel old. Now I am depressed.

I am playing in a game that is over 4 years old (from the origional start date... there have been slow time with only 1 session in a month).

Doombringer64

Actaully I am familiar with those systems. I personally prefer World of Darkness because it is more about Role Playing and less about rolling dice. In fact pretty much all the RPs I create are based on that system. Sad it's going out of print. So quick everybody buy a masquerade and or a mage book!!!

I got mine from Sam Goody/On Cue (You can special order them if they are out of stock). Though you can normally find them in most hobby shops. I would also imagine large book stores like Barnes and Nobles would have them.

Shadowrun is a 'near-future' RPG... although the altered history part of the 'near-future' starts in 1999.... in which you (usually) play a criminal on the fringes of a society run by large mega-corporations. Normal people have jobs and System Identification Numbers which allow them to be identified by police, to hold bank accounts, and make legal purchases from the corps. In most cases, a Shadowrunner would be SINless, but very often would have several fake SIN's.

Shamanic magic has returned Native Americans and other aborigional people to power. The United States' vast millitary is powerless against the Great Ghost Dance;

Spirits and elementals are tapped by corporations for power;

Corp-mages battle with shadowrunners for hot talismans;

Large, Multi-national corporations have been granted 'extra-territoriality' to build and maintain thier own defensive forces... subject only to the international 'Corporate Courts';

Hyper-wired Street Samauri blast demonic insect-spirits on the streets of old Chicago;

Elves, Trolls, Dwarves, Orcs and other mythological creatures have returned and vie for civil rights;

Seven ancient Dragons have re-awakened... some good and some evil. One owns and manages a mega-corp and another wins the 2046 Presidential election for the Confederated American States (CAS)... only to be assassinated;

Computers rule the flow of money, information, and power... and cybered shadowrunning deckers rule computers;

Riggers plug themselves directly into thier vehicles thru cybernetic implants, controlling turrents, sensors, and the radio station at the speed of thought;

Remote decks allow control of robotic drones for combat, stealth, or recon;

And it was all put in a well-balanced, relatively inexpensive book (it is one of the only systems that can be run completely from the single players guide)

I miss Shadowrun.

I have not played d20 modern... I have only played d20 (warcraft) and d20 (3rd edition AD&D).

Unfortunately, the d20 system is level and skill based... I prefer to play a pure skill based system, like White Wolf's 'World of Darkness' or Fasa's 'Shadowrun 3rd edition'. I find it to be more forgiving of my style of play, because I tend to play somewhat eclectic characters... with skills sorta spread out all over the place. Level based systems tend to make life difficult for me at later levels, because my character's all end up with a bunch of basic feats and skills. in a skill based system, the cost and time needed to learn a low-level skill remains the same throughout the game.

having re-read what i just wrote, it is about as unclear as it could be. however, rewording it wouldn't help, so if you understand then good for you. if you don't understand, don't worry about it.

I undestood you, but then again it possible because I totally agree. Though to say the world of darkness is forgiving seems to be a tad misleading (I think Sub and Dark Elemental found that out when they had a run in with noxious sewer gases. I hope they know it wasn't anything personal).

SterlingRat
04-05-2004, 10:04 PM
I seem to remember that... I was 'lurking' at the time.

it's a shame when good characters die... but sometimes there is no easy way around it when you are GM. At least you had something else kill them. Every time I play a 'world of darkness' game my character ends up being betrayed and killed by other party members... either that, or I betray them first and kill them.

I remember one game in particular... my vampire was fighting with another neonate vampire for control of the police force in Pittsburg after an assassination attempt on the Prince killed his police ghouls and sent him into torpor. I had discovered a group of arms-dealing anarchs, and was attempting to manuver them into a position to be eliminated by one of my blood-bonded thralls on the force (a bust on this scale would have gotten him a considerable promotion.... probably enough authority to eliminate my rival's ghouls on the force.)

I did not know that this particular group of anarchs were running guns for Mike, another PC... who was also aiding me on another project, and found out my plans for the police force. That rat promptly turned my name over to the anarchs, and I died in an unfortunate car accident (my car blew up).

My only consolation is that my allies took my revenge after I died... Mike paid for his crime when Craig and John (also PC's) fabricated some evidence and turned Mike over to the primogen council as the culprit behind the attempted assassination of the Prince (which Craig and John were actually responsible for staging... at my request, to free up control of the police force).

Thinking back, I don't think John and Craig ever got around to betraying each other.

Oh yeah... the point... sometimes there is a deadly danger that players walk into, like mathane gas in a sewer or a couple pounds of C-4 in the engine block. You just have to take your lumps and move on..... or hire a chaufer.

Well, if you mean just message boards, then I suppose I've been rping for.... uh... I think at least 3 years. I'm pretty sure I started out at gamewinners (god forbid anyone else goes there) I took a break for about a year, then I went to another forum. After that, I went to blizzforums. I started rping for a while there, but recently I had no computer for 2 and a half months, if anyone wants to know why I stopped posting. I just came back a bit ago and found that there were no one I knew there. After a bit of searching, found Black Hawk's post about this place, followed it, and voila!, Everyone is here. I plan to RP here now, since Blizzforums isn't really that active. So... probably 3 years.

If you count videogame systems, then I've been loving RPG games since I got my first one, which was 6 years ago, I think.

I feel a bit nostalgic when you bring up this question. Hm, let's see...
3-4 years, to be exact. Not a heavy roleplayer, a few absences, but a lightly and enthusiastic roleplayer, I am. A little IRC roleplayin' experience, some from games like BGII, Fallout 1&2, a wee bit Ultima (very little), a healthy part Never Winter Nights and a small dose of Diablo I&2, Heroes of Might and Magic - then some at forums - not much, a bit at a norwegian one but that became never successfull (they didn't like me, and removed my roleplaying) but mostly at here, WarBoards, who were much more successfull. Let's see, what else...can't think of anything...migth've forgot something...well, let's just say I had alot of off-line experience before I went online, with a mild succsess - a bit off topic this, but who cares? ;)
