i once read a thread here on warboards in which people were talking about how names and such are taken from real cultures and modified, then used in war3. the only one i can think of now is the singleplayer campaign World Tree is called Nordrassil like the Viking mythological world tree is Ygdrassil(no i dont know how to pronounce it). also, if ur that kind of person whos a sadisdic psycho obsessed sheep, pig, stag, etc killer, if u keep clicking on any of the above than after a little while, KABOOM!!!, and the sheep is blown to roast mutton. :D i dont know if this works on Human mechanical critters or if it even works in multiplayer, but if any1 else has any interesing or funny facts about war3 plz post them here

On the last undead ROC mission, if you click on a critter 25 times it will explode. I did try that once. :)

Arthas is based on Anakin Skywalker, and MalGanis is based on Count Dukoo... thats my opinion, anyway.

alot of mapping glitches can be solved in the preferences...who has ever TESTED (as in, pressed "test map" in the WE) a map only to get the same set of "RANDOM" numbers over and over again, but this is solved when you load it in real WC? it is beacuase of the "fixed random seed". Need negative values in the object editor? check the preferences...just thought id add something that involves mapping..

The Spirit Walker is a white bull, correct? He also comes from a "lodge" that looks an awful lot like a teepee. In Native American religion, they believe that white buffalo were considered an bad mojo omen of a great change. I think WCIII all but entirely rips that off.

in South Asian mythology, the nagas are an ancient race of snake-humans that brought fertility to their venerators; they were especially popular in southern India. They are Varuna's servants. Nagas live in a type of palace called Patala, many of which are in Bhogavati, an underground city. They are children of Kasyapa and Kadru. The Nagas are the enemies of the Garudas, divine eagle-like creatures that appear in Buddhist and Hindu mythology.

it may seem stupid, but under arthas and uther, is a cross (it's all blue and illuminated), and you may ask why its a rip off, but the cross is the christian symbol, of how jesus gave his life up, so how could they use this? their religion isnt built around god and jesus. i thought some others were like other gods/deities, but i forgot them. (oh, i also think its kind of unfair to call them rip offs. they just take the idea and remake it, cooler, and all built into one story, just as shakespeare did. plus, anything can be a ripoff of something else if you just think hard enough).

you are correct, Nagas are aken from hindu mythology itself, And there is no doubt about it. You'll find that Naga theme is also from Indian music. Moreover the elves and specially Night Elves are also somewhat related to Indian Mythology... The Elves are Described as Yakshas who had a divine power source from which they used to draw their magic powers, though the hindu mythology says that it was located in heaven, you will be amazed to listen that it was a magical water called as "Amruta", means whoever drinks it, shall never die unless it's effect runs out. Very similar to the magical water of Sunwell. Now lets turn over to the night elves... they are somewhat closer to Gandharvas, who used to draw the the power of immortality from nature. They had the hold over several powers of nature and reputed to be immensely powerful during night time... Now in WC3, the music of Night elves is somewhat closer to the classical Indian music... (Still made a little western style) The first part of the story of Azeroth is also seem to be taken from the Hindu mythology itself, As the story says that the Azeroth were inhabited by the elementals before arrival of titans. Hindu mythology says that there are five basic elementals which balance the universe... Earth, Sky/Space, Water, Fire, and Air. ( Prithivi, Aakash, Jal, Agni, Vayu ) Three of them are mentioned... Earth, Fire and Water. And two are actually shown... Fire and Water... The battle of Night elves and Burning legion is also goes in Hindu mythology where there are many examples of Rakshasas(Demons) and Devas(Gods) - (can say as The Night elves, before war of the ancients, and Burning legion ) had fought for the Amruta, as earlier described shows similarity to water of Well of Eternity. Each time someone from the Gods had risen up and defeated the Demons. Like it goes.. Cenarius, Malfurion and Illidan. Those who rose up and played important role in defeating demons. Now as far Nagas come to concers, they are also allied to the Devas and do are the Garudas, Like the High elves and night elves or night elves and nagas stood united at last. Well i think i have said nuff. There are other points as well, but i actually cannont recollect all the mythological data at this time, If anyone has a deep study of Indian mythology, please correct me if i am wrong...

an "Arthurian Uther Pendragon" was a welsh warlord. also, i think that one the bear form night elf sounds is a actually a bear mating call. a cairn (think Cairne Bloodhoof) was a Scottish Gaelic word for a heap of stones or rocky hill, and a thrall was i believe a medieval viking or saxon slave. i think it was both a saxon and viking word.

The Naga theme is, more specifically, sitar (http://www.musicalnirvana.com/instruments/sitar.jpg)/veen (http://www.indianmusicals.com/string/saraswativeena/images/saraswathi_veena_110_a.jpg)a (http://www.indianmusicals.com/string/saraswativeena/images/saraswathi_veena_110_a.jpg) music. And yes, the Gandharvas (http://members.jcom.home.ne.jp/imagaco/gandharva.jpg) draw the power of immortality from nature. The Gandharvas even bonded with trees to gain energy! This sounds strangely familiar...

Amruta (or Amrit, as Northern Indians refer to it) is symbolized in certain Sikh rituals (http://www.ikonkar.com/sikhism/Ceremonies/amrit.jpg).

Yes, you've pretty much summed up the connections between Warcraft and Hindu Mythology. Except for the Nagas, which they blatantly ripped off, Blizzard didn't really steal anything from the mythology. I'm going to go through the credits again, and see if there are any Indian names in the list. Perhaps that's why there's such a huge Hindu influence on the Warcraft plot.

Thrall sounds alot like Träl, which in Swedish pretty much means Slave.

I think the whole concept of the "Burning Legion" was half borrowed from LOTR - the enemy gets defeated some thousand years ago and returns, and almost manages to destroy the world again.

lol, this plot has been used how many times now??

my fact: dont use waits in actions such as pick every player, as it can cause glitches. This is because the game then wants to execute the "wait" action for only the picked player, which obviously doesnt work.

medieval people from Sweden, Denmark, and Norway were the vikings

the saxons controlled England at times, and i think they were similar to Scandinavians in other ways to; the word huskarl(a.k.a. huscarls) is used in reference to both certain vikings and certain saxons. at least that's what i think, i only know about vikings from the internet, and about saxons from studying vikings(their enemies).
