I have and nothing changes. can u help me? arr\images.dat was the file. if neone knows how to fix this plz tell me thx. (also, its says that the program issued a command, but the command length was incorrect. just incase that helps)Thx again

Delete it and download the newest version from SC.Org you might have had a problem with the download or if its zipped extract it to my documents or desk top.

I trust that you had it installed in the exact same folder directory that SC is (and that the installing file said it was a good one). If not, uninstall it and then reinstall it there, since it's files need to be side by side with StarEdit. :)
SCXE is already in it's 2.6 version, but that's really more of a matter of preference in wich you intend to work with. ;)

And welcome to WB's too. :D

Possibly your images.dat is not being recognized correctly and you could replace it with WinMPQ, but I can't think of why it would be different or corrupted.

Not save it, but install it. I'm beggining to think that you're speaking of the setup/install *.exe file instead of the actual folder to wich you should install that map editor.

As for the invalid the "images.dat" file being corrupted, that's not quite correct. It's best if you peep under the 3 *.mpq (original) files under your SC directory and be sure that you haven't replaced the file that gives you problems inside'em, with WinMPQ as Lord of Nukes suggested. Most likely it's an corrupted *.mpq and to repair that you'll have to install or reinstall SC itself. ;)

By this I assume that you haven't tampered with those *.mpq files (or anyone else that may use your PC).
Mpq files are similar to archive files like *.zip or *.rar ones. It's just the storing system that Blizz' uses so far in their games. ;)

Try to unisntall and install back SC-BW in the same folder that you had it in the previous installation. Then run the latest patch update and after both setups are succesfully finished, then try to run SCXE . :)

Important note: Just reminded that to be able to run properly SCXE you must have the [I]BroodWar (aka BW) expansion installed also. :poke:

*Looks exactly above and has a bad mood rant* Wonderful help Aquarian... as (almost) always, stating the obvious.

As the matter of fact, I'm going to add this one to the FAQ if it isn't there already. :P

That, is a problem. :concern: (May be 'easily' fixed with 10 U.S. bucks to buy BW but that's for your pocket to decide, not us. :smirk: )

In the meantime, peep other editors like StarFire (read, usually for Mac's but works in other OS'es), SCMdraft 2 or StarForge too. Altough, for mapping rookies, these last 2 are more advanced than SCXE or even StarFire and require more time to grasp the usage possibilities and tweak to work back in the 'regular StarEdit mode'. ;)

Is it possible to create and edit original .scm's with 2.6? Just curious.

/me 'forgets' the thread reviving (since it's a valid question, in it's opinion) *
Yup, it is (provided the map wasn't protected). ;) But to keep the map a SC vanilla one, you mustn't use any of the BW particular settings (read, it's units, tilesets and some trigger stuff), though.
