I don't believe he's using an illegal version or anything. I lent my Warcraft CD to a friend and it came back (irrepairably) scratched, so when my brother tried installing it on his PC it stopped the installation halfway through. I have since resolved never to lend anyone a game again.

In fact, the WC3-TFT CD's do have a protection measure against copies - wich I won't name here - but that will suffice preventing from making copies to the normal user of some certain copying CD/DVD programs. ;)
And to ask those files being him/her's a sole post recent member it's my belief that he/she indeed as a (faulty) copy, most likely dl'ed with a P2P/FTP app. Therefore, imo, it enters the illegal bounds of the site's policy, as I've seen asked many times before in the SC Debriefing Room area as well. :shiftyl:
Edit add: Trust me 'cause, alas, I'm currently goin' on my 3rd buy of SC-BW and do know that some folks damage things pretty easily even if lended. My solution was to lend a copy of my games in a CD-RW and install it myself to prevent sharing CD-Keys, always tell to not go under Net play and if he/she wants to test try multi' always agree times so you won't play at the same time. If the fella likes the game, he/she'll eventually buy an original one and return my CD-RW wich I promptly erase (obviously enough that I only do this to close trusted friends). Clean and almost legal, since in most TOA's you're allowed to make a copy for backup purposes. :)
