Light & Dark

I stared at the ancient story on the ancient walls. The greatest adventure to ever take place anywhere had been recorded on these stone walls, deep within my lord's sanctuary. I brushed my hand over them, reading the ancient writings and the and examining the drawings of the battles. It was a strange story, one I had read many times. I was one of the few to be allowed to look at it, for obvious reasons. I heard footsteps behind me, and a comforting hand gently rested on my shoulder.
"You understand your purpose in this, do you not?" My Lord asked.

"Yes my Lord, I understand everything," I slowly replied.

"You must leave now, for they will need your guidance."

"I know."

"Good. Leave now and take whatever you will with you."

"Yes my Lord."

I turned around and picked up the bag I had packed. It didn't have much, for I would not need much. Just a mat to sleep on, a bow, and a few arrows. I took a few steps, then turned my head to look back at the walls one last time. It was a strange story indeed, for it hadn't even begun.

*****

It had been an normal day for John Barton. He had woken up at the time he normally did, 6:30. He had eaten his normal breakfast of burnt toast with butter on it. He walked to the subway station like he normally did to avoid the normal early morning traffic. He arrived at his job and began typing away on his computer, doing his normal work. He left like normal at 6:00. Normal. His life would never be that way again.

He stepped out of the small office building he was working in and began walking to the nearest subway station, a few blocks away. Before he could react someone pulled him into an alley. He tried to scream for help but a hand covered his mouth. He struggled to free himself from his assailant but it was no use.

"Don't struggle, I'm here to help you!" said a gruff voice.

Help me?! John thought He calls this helping?!

"If you will listen to what I have to say, I will let you go, ok?" John contemplated this for a moment, then nodded. The hand lifted off his face and whoever was behind him let him go.

"Ok, what do you want?" John asked angrily, turning around to see whoever had grabbed him. The man was wearing a trench coat, his face was shrouded in almost complete darkness from the hood covering his head.

Clever...I can't get a good look at his face now...

"You have to believe what I am saying right now! Forces greater than we can imagine are working here. The war has begun and nothing will stop it now. It won't be long before they come to-" He stopped abruptly and was now looking upward. John looked up too. He almost cried out in shock. The sky was blood red.

"Oh no...They've opened the portal...I hadn't thought that they would come so soon..." The man muttered. He grabbed John by the shoulders and spoke again, "Above all else, you mustn't trust-" There was an gigantic explosion, or at least it sounded like one. John ran back to the street to see what had happened. His jaw dropped as what looked like a cloud of fire and darkness came out of nowhere, swallowing the city. He covered his face with his arms, expecting the worst.

And then the noise stopped. John slowly dropped his arms. Still nothing happened. He slowly opened his eyes, but even after that he was not prepared for what sight greeted him. The buildings in front of him were crumbling, completely destroyed wrecks. The street was devastated. Skyscrapers all around had crumbled. And the sky was the same blood red. John took a step forward, stunned by all of this.

As his foot touched the floor he the floor was jerked out from underneath his feet, or that's what it felt like. He crashed to the ground. But the ground wasn't the ground anymore. It felt like he was being held to a wall by invisible ropes. He struggled to lift himself up but it was no use, whatever was holding him was to strong. He looked around to see where he was, but even that was useless

"You are not wanted," Said a bone chilling voice, "Nor are you needed."

John looked up to see two eyes that seemed to be glowing of darkness.

But how...it's pitch black! How can anything be darker?!

"You cannot understand many things human!" The voice said laughingly, "And it's to late for you to understand them now."

And then John was on the floor. Whatever had held him had let go. There was a click and a light turned on above him. It illuminated a small circle on the floor around him, but nothing else. Puzzled, John looked up to see what kind of light it was. But there wasn't a light. Light came out of nowhere. John was now doubly confused. And that growling wasn't helping.

Wait, growling?

John looked down. He immediately wished he hadn't. A large black monster was staring at him. It had large black claws and long black fangs, and it's hairless body looked like it had been sliced into a thousand pieces then sewn back together. It raised it's claw as John looked on in terror.

And then out of no where came the light. A blinding light encompassed him. He tried to run, still terrified. But then a voice, comforting and soothing, said, "Do not run. It is not your time. Not yet."

And then it was all gone. John was in the middle of a dark forest, Trees surrounded them in every direction. Them. John's Brain clicked and he realized that he was not alone. There were other people here too; some looked scared and some looked bewildered. John was both. But he was comforted that some other people were with him.

*****

Unknown to the group a pair of eyes watched them behind a metal mask. "And thus begins the greatest adventure universe will ever see..." The hooded man muttered to himself.

And you can have some equipment on you at the time (A notepad and pen, school stuff, office supplies, or even a gun if I say it is ok) but you have to have been able to keep hold of it though all that happened to you.

Name: Christopher Stevens

Age: 23

Gender: male

Hair Colour: black

Eye Colour: blue

Ethnicity: American

Further Description: 5'11", somewhat muscular. A tattoo of an anchor with USN under it, signifying he is in the US Navy.

Current Clothing: blue cotton shirt, black slacks and black boots.

Equipment: 9mm M15 Beretta pistol.

Biography: Christopher was born in Tennessee, and is redneck to the core. He talks with a southern accent, he's a fan of the Dukes of Hazzard, and he has seen Smoky and the Bandit 20 times. His life is centered around achieving a Dodge Charger and having it painted up like the General Lee. He has experience with guns, and he also likes sailing, so he joined the US Navy. In the Navy, he works in Fire Control, but that has no practical usage in his life, other than being able to claim he can blow shit up. Of course, he isn't the best with his pistol, either. He prefers shotguns, but doesn't have any around. But anyway, on to the rest of the biography. He was born in Oak Ridge, TN to a redneck family. They went out into the woods around Oliver Springs, and went squirrel and turkey huntin'. His favourite holiday is the 4th of July on account of the fireworks. If you looked up redneck, you'd find a picture of Chris.

Intro post: Chris stirred as his alarm clock blared a bright red image into his head. His pupils strained against the light that had been turned on by his roommate, and the alarm clock that was going off read 6:14. Chris rolled over, kissed his still-sleeping girlfriend on the cheek, and got up.

He put on deoderant, and put on his usual work uniform, and his ID. He also loaded his 9mm and placed it in it's holster. It wasn't that he planned on using it, but it was there if needed. He grabbed a milk-and-cereal and turned on his car to his favourite station, 93.3, Jacksonville's New rock station.

He drove to work at a speed of 45 MPH in his 2000 Acura, listening to Seether. He was waved through the gate, parked his car, and walked aboard the USS O'Bannon. He made his way to his station, and got off at 4:15 per usual. Well... wasn't so usual, the sky was red.

"Well... that ain't somethin' you see everyday." Chris said, and slammed against an invisible something. He almost immediatly blacked out.

He awoke in a forest, and drew his pistol near immediatly. He looked around... and felt compelled to stay away from others.

Name: Jereth Blanchard
Age: 24
Gender: Male
Hair Color: Black
Eye Color: Blue
Ethnicity: Transylvanian/American
Further Description: Long hair, medium build
Current Clothing: Black steel toed boots (buckles on them; comes up mid calf); Black pants (http://www.hottopic.com/store/product.asp?LS=0&ITEM=234411&RN=136); Mesh undershirt with upside down pentagram hoodie. Piercing in his lip and eyebrow. Upside down pentagram necklace
Equipment: Butterfly knife; Chains on his pants can double as weapons.
Biography: Jereth is a Transylvanian at heart (Parents came from there, yet he was born in America. He is about as gothic as they come, his name a sign of that. He is a satanist, which is perfect for his personality (dark and dreary) He doesn't talk about his past much, but from the angst he seems to feel when parents are mentioned, it is thought he doesn't have any good reason to like them. Despite his personality, he seems to have a way with people, and this is what keeps him from losing his mind.

Intro Post: Jereth walked through the city quietly. The night was slightly warm, but that didn't bother him. Jereth enjoyed the night much better than the day. During the day, it was bright and hot. The night was cool and calm.

Turning down a street, Jereth stopped looked down for a moment, finding a rat scrounging around for food. Stooping, he picked the miserable creature up and lifted it to his face. Staring at the animal, he chuckled. Here he was, staring into the eyes of a rat, and he couldn't help but think how much alike him and this creature were. Both were night animals; both scrounged for what they ate; and both had little care for others.

Setting the rat back down,Jereth watched it scamper away. Sighing, he shook his head, and started walking again. Looking up at the sky, he froze immediately. Somehow, the sky was blood red. Jereth knew not how this was possible, but it was happening.

Almost immediately, a wave of darkness swept through the city, and Jereth threw up his hands to cover his face, unsure of what the wave was made of. Soon, all sound was gone, replaced with the simple sound of his breathing. Dropping his hands he took a step back at the sight that greeted him. All around, buildings were crumbling. Nothing was moving, not even the scavenging rats he saw earlier.

It turns out that step back was the wrong thing to do. His feet were jerked out from under him, causing him to hit the ground hard. He almost thought he heard something crack, but he wasn't sure. Suddenly, he felt a weight upon him. He didn't see anything, but he felt a weight nonetheless. He heard a feminine-like voice in his ear, "Sleep now, my child. You need the rest for what is to come."

Jereth's eyes closed slowly, the power of suggestion seemingly more powerful than he had originally thought. As he slipped into the land of sleep, he could swear he heard someone say, "Thou shalt repent thou sins if thou art to survive to see the coming darkness."

------------------------

Jereth opened his eyes, and saw trees. Sitting up, he noticed he was in a forest. Groaning to his feet, he looked around. Nodding, he realized there were others within the forest with him. He wanted to count, but his mind was jumbled. He tried clearing it, but to no avail. He stood there within the forest, waiting for something to happen....

Name: Nicholas Campbell

Age: 15, almost 16

Gender: Male

Hair Color: Chestnut Brown

Eye Color: Blue-Gray

Ethnicity: Really REALLY white (Mostly English and Irish with a bit of Scottish)

Further Description: At about 6’ 2” and 191 lbs., he is one of the tallest, strongest, quietest, and smartest people in his grade. He has hair that is somewhat shaggy and long but does not go farther down beyond his eyes or the top of his neck. He has a sharp, defined skull and he tries to keep his face free of pimples and acne, but he’s always on the verge of a breakout of epic proportions. There is little fat on him and for the most part has a rather slim semi-muscular torso, with very muscular legs and arms conditioned by swimming, biking, running, working out, and a variety of sports (such as soccer and basket ball).

Current Clothing: A dark green shirt with a Celtic design and a Germanic dragon off to the lower right corner, kaki cargo pants, a belt, and some socks and sneakers.

Equipment: A Swiss army knife, some tools (made from sticks, stones, and wraps), some sticks, stones, and wraps; and a bag full of newspapers, books, printed out articles, and notes.

Biography: He was a smart kid, but he knew mostly of science and math and could draw, but he knew not of history, politics, economics, philosophy, religion, geography; some of the most important bits knowledge for today’s culture. However, that was all changed when a large terrorist attack occurred. He wanted to know why it had happened, and thus turned his attention to these areas of teaching and thought. However, he also turned his attention away from the current culture in his area and his peers and thus became out of touch with them and slowly gained more knowledge of the outside world while growing more and more silent in his own culture. He recently has become interested in craftsmanship (hence the tools) and philosophy more than anything.

Intro Post: While he was at home (he was recovering from the flu, but would have to go back to school the next day, as all that remained of the ailment was some sniffling and a few sneezes and coughs), a great quake shook the house and Nicholas rushed outside to see how the quake had eroded the environment outside. As he opened the door, he saw a blood red sky and large, misshapen pitch black beasts. They shrieked in unison, but the shriek seemed like a dying echo without a main shriek, it seemed like a shadow, a phantom of the shriek. Suddenly, a blinding light filled his eyes and a voice said something which he could not make out. It faded out as he fainted and whatever the message was had left his mind completely. Later, he woke up in a forest surrounded by other people who look like they had witnessed something similar.

Name: Vrazix G. (Vrah-zicks)

Age: 22

Gender: Male

Hair Color: Longish, medium brown hair

Eye Color: Very dark brown (from a distance, one cannot conceive the difference between pupil and iris)

Ethnicity: Aryan

Further Description: Standing at 6' 2", Vrazix is a lanky fellow with a light build. His height comes mainly from his legs, which power his greatest physical aspect: his speed. A small goatee compliments his long hair and dark eyes, and his bony cheeks complete his domineering figure.

Current Clothing: Bottom to top: Black city boots with a broken lace on the left boot and a small chip on the front (left) end of the rubber, the boots are only cleaned by an occasional brush of the hand, and are moderately dusty. Dark navy blue pants, with pockets up and down both legs, also moderately dusty, with large patches near the ends, where they hang just above the ground and are wrinkled. Covering the belt of the pants is a long black t-shirt with a white, crudely vectored skull on the front; maintains the dusty theme. Around the neck is a silver chain necklace with a black pendant in the shape of a hurricane (sort of like you see on the weather channel).

Equipment: Black carabineer with 4 keys attached, wallet with minimal currency and a few plastic cards, including an ID. Contained in a back holster is a magnum revolver type pistol with large caliber rounds and a pouch with an extra 6 rounds.

Biography: Freelance artist living alone in a small city apartment with no job. Occasionally goes to art showings where he has had his art displayed a handful of times before. His works have been auctioned off and bought by art collectors which is how he gains most of his money. Spends much of his time in the digital world where he casually games and practices his art. His love of firearms stems from his father and grandfather, both of whom are skilled bow and rifle hunters.

Intro Post:

Tired from the night before, Vrazix loosely hung onto the subway handle keeping him upright as the transit moved slightly back and forth on its journey through the tunnels under the city. Vrazix was on his way from his apartment to an art show in which his latest work, Demise was being shown.

What the hell is that guy doing?

Vrazix awkwardly stared at a homeless fellow in the back of the car nervously looking around as if a bird or bug were closely flying around him. He yelled something that Vrazix couldn't understand and before Vrazix could think another thought, an intensely loud shattering sound accompanied by a booming crash occurred, and with it the lights went out.

As people screamed and yelled, Vrazix merely waited for his eyes to adjust to the new darkness. Emergency lights in the tunnel were weak and only lit a few inches around them. The cool subway air was a relief because everyone's tense bodies generated a lot of heat. People began pouring out of the subway car, even though the lights had resumed in the cars, and into the darkness; lessons we're relearned quick as a few people forgot about the deadly third rail and were violently shocked. Vrazix watched a business man hit the rail and immediately drop to the ground.

I had best stay away from the rail, Vrazix needlessly thought.

Sensing danger as panicked yells of 'Get out of here!' and 'Run for your lives!' echoed through the tunnel, Vrazix was the only one left in the car besides the now unconscious homeless man that he had been staring at before. Vrazix poked his head out and looked in the opposite direction people were running from, only to see what they were running from: the tunnel ahead had collapsed and crushed the train not two cars in front of the one he was in.

Time to go.

Vrazix made the short hop down to the rusty gravel, just after a straggler quickly ran by, holding her hat and hugging her purse. Glancing once more back at the disaster, Vrazix calmly made his own way back from the direction he had come, to Burnstop station. Passing a total of four corpses, including the unfortunate businessman’s, Vrazix was constantly reminded of the still-live third rail.

Something isn't right.

He thought, as he began a slight jog. No one was left in the tunnel, as far as he could see ahead. A small bend a hundred feet ahead of him would show him the still empty station.

People must've really wanted to get out.

He thought, as he observed not a single trace of a soul left in the tunnels or station. He climbed the short ladder leading to the white-tiled station in two quick jumps, and made his way to the concrete staircase. As he got closer to the exit, his heart sunk to his stomach. The sky was a blood red. As he quickly jogged up the stairs, he could feel nothing but the pressure of his body against his bones, fearing the blood red and not knowing why. Before he could think, his thoughts were once again interrupted by an abrupt noise. In a flash bang like manner, it became white and Vrazix could not hear anything, except the muffled voice which he could not make out what it was saying. He could still feel the ground below him, but as the white faded away, he was not where he was before, but instead in the forest, surrounded by a few other people, none of whom he recognized.

This is some kind of day, if day still exists.

OOC: Welcome aboard Pixels. :)

Name: Adam Zahi

Age: 19

Gender: Male

Hair Color: Black

Eye Color: Brown

Ethnicity: Half American, Half Indian. Physical appearance tends to be more towards the American side.

Further Description: 5' 11' and weighing a little over 140 lbs, Adam is on the skinny side. He appears to be American, however his Indian ancestry is visible with his Asian features and tanned skin.

Despite being a bit thin, he is in excellent physical shape. While he is not the strongest, he is well-toned.

Current Clothing: A black t-shirt with blue jeans.

Equipment: Wallet, Watch, cell phone, and chapstick. Everything in his pockets. He also has black-rimmed glasses on his face.

Biography: Adam was raised in various parts of the world. He spent his childhood in his motherland, India and then moved to the middle-east when he was five. He moved to Europe for a year, and then went to Egypt until he was 9. After he turned 10, he spent all his life in the United States. His parent's jobs were the main reason for moving around.

Being around the world has given him a unique perspective on life; he's usually known to be the quiet one who analyzes the situation before speaking. He's very nice, and gets along well with others -- he had learned to do this as a result of his constant shifting from location to location.

Intro Post:

2.51. 3.71. 4.94. 5.50...

The numbers on the small digital display continued to rise at what seemed to be an exponential rate and the frown on Adam's face increased proportionately. Gas was so damn expensive. He stood idly by his car waiting for it fill up. Adam looked around the the area briefly; there wasn't much activity even though it was close to eight in the morning.

Adam slowly reached up and ran his slim fingers through his thin black hair, and then stopped at the side of his face. He readjusted the glasses on his face, even though there was no need to. He felt slightly awkward simply standing around waiting for the gas to fill.

As he waited, another car pulled over to the other side of the pump, and a young female stepped out of the car. She made eye-contact with Adam, smiled, and then quickly looked away.

Adam continued to a wait, listening to the sound of the gas pouring into the tank, and smelling the nausea-inducing scent of gasoline. He begun to tap a random song from memory onto the frame of the car. Shortly afterwards, the pump clicked off.

Adam picked it up, tilted the last remaining drops out of the nozzle to insure he got every drop that he paid for, and returned it to it's rightful place on the pump where it could wait for its next victim. He looked at the terminal, which stated over thirty dollars of gas, with less than half that amount of gallons being dispensed.

Adam sighed and roughly pushed the a few buttons on the terminal to stop the incessant beeping asking whether he wanted a receipt. As he walked, he noticed that his surroundings became dull. His eyes drifted to the sky, assuming to see a large cloud blocking the morning sun.

However, what he saw startled him. There were no clouds, and the blue sky was replaced by a deep, scarlet thread. Adam felt his feet lock into the ground, and a cold shiver run through his spine. That sight alone was more than Adam needed to know that something terrible was happening.

To amplify his fear, the ground began to rumble. Slowly at first, but the intensity increased. Adam had experienced an earthquake before, but this was far different. His mind attempted to rationalize everything that happened, but nothing could come to his mind. He was not religious, but he remembered his father talking of a doomsday. Was this it?

Adam began to look for shelter, and then he felt the ground pull away from him. He felt as if he was on a trampoline, and the ground had been yanked out from underneath him. He looked at the ground, and it dissolved away, and Adam was surrounded by darkness.

He attempted to reach around, but there was nothing around him. There was no up; there was no down. There was nothing.

"Where am I?" Adam called out, his voice crackling from fear.

In return, all he heard was laughter. Evil, maniacal laughter. That laughter made Adam cringe. It was the most hideous thing he had ever heard.

He slowly began to feel a tug. A sense of direction, something pulling him down. The world began to rematerialize, and Adam saw ground. And he was falling towards it, head first.

He extended his arms, and attempted to straighten himself out and was semi-successful. He landed on his knees, and quickly got to his feet. He was in a wooded area. A forest. A dark forest.

Adam quickly spun around. His breathing was heavy, and his heart-rate was increased. For the first time in his life, he was terrified.

Name: Sarah Ward

Age: 28

Gender: F

Hair Color: Black

Eye Color: Gray, with slight greenness

Ethnicity: Caucasian

Further Description: Her body is quite trained, with little fat. Muscles don't look big, though. Otherwise close to the "normal" body of a woman.

Current Clothing: Deep blue dress which is quite loose and doesn't have any decorations. Walking shoes, black.

Equipment: Cellphone, wallet and a hidden dagger she used for self-defence.

Biography: Sarah was a worker at a local office. She usually walked from home to work, so she had to carry the dagger for self-defence.

Her life was not very special, if you asked her. Silent in her youth, and very average in grades, but she could get a nice clean job after she finished schools.

Appearing submissive, but aggressive if threatened.

Intro Post:
After a exhausting day at work, she proceeded to go home.
The sky should have been bright, but it was dark. Sun was nowhere to be seen, but there were no clear clouds visible.
Sarah shrugged and continued walking.

After three minutes of walking, something dark shadowed Sarah.. and everything went black.. in a bright flash of light.

After an unspecified amount of time, she awoke in a forest, seeing figures of other people around her.

Name: Rend Rashida

Height: 5' 6"

Weight: 120 lbs

Age: 24

Gender: Male

Hair Color: Black

Eye Color: Black

Ethnicity: Malay (Filipino)

Further Description: Light-brown skin. Short, cropped hair. Thin goatee.

Current Clothing: Baggy tan cargo pants ("baggy" because of Rend's thin physique), light-gray tee over a black, long-sleeved sweat shirt, black sneakers. Two silver rings (worn on left thumb and index finger).

Equipment: Wallet, lighter, a pack of Marlboro Lights, swiss knife.

Biography: Rend is a logical, rational person who believes that everything has to have a logical explanation. He is a deep thinker and likes to keep to himself. Although he prefers to be alone, he still finds the urge to keep in touch with other people.

Rend is a part of an old tribe that is native to the mountain ranges of the Northern part of the Philippines. His grandfather is the last "shaman" (or "most respected elder") of the tribe. His early education, which was overseed by his grandfather, consisted of the customs and traditions of his tribe. These usually contradict with his logical way of thinking, but he still keeps them at heart.

The mixture of his native lore and his rational mind has always helped him squeeze out of sticky situations.

Intro Post: Rend's head hurt like hell, and there was a loud ringing noise that made it worse. He tried to sit up and a sudden dizziness hit him and sent the world around him spinning. He wanted to puke but his stomach turned up nothing but a few drops of bitter digestive juices. He forced himself to stand and the pain and dizziness shot through him again. The ringing was still there and it was starting to annoy him.

He managed to take a few staggering steps before his body slumped onto the small chair beside his bed. The ringing got louder. Cursing, Rend picked up the phone and he felt a surge of relief as the annoying noise stopped. He was about to talk into the phone receiver when his eyes drifted towards the window overlooking the village he lived in. He felt that something was definitely wrong with the scene outside his window. Absent-mindedly, he dropped the phone receiver and walked to the window, he looked up towards the sky and his lungs gave out a sudden rush of breath.

The sky was the color of blood.

Interesting isn't it?

Rend looked around, he was alone in the room. "Who's there?", he called out.

Interesting how humans take simple things for granted. Change something that they're so accustomed to, and their minds crumble.

Rend smiled, "Look you morons, I don't have time for your idiotic pranks, although I must say, this is the best one yet, I don't know how you did the bloody sky bit..." His voice trailed off, his room spun and his head felt like it was exploding. As darkness enveloped him, he managed one final thought, "This has to be the worst hang-over yet..."

Name: Tom Jacobson

Age: 18

Gender: M

Hair Color: Black

Eye Color: Blue

Ethnicity: White

Further Description: His hair goes down an inch past his ears, he is about 5'10, slightly athletic build because he plays soccer.

Current Clothing: Dirty blue jeans and a white t-shirt.

Equipment: Cell phone, wallet, keys, watch, deck of cards.

Biography: Tom is a senior in high school, where he is a class clown. People always count on him for a good time, and that might be part of the reason he has as many freinds as he does, not to mention the chicks. Tom is planning on becoming a door to door salesman because someone once told him he could talk the devil into setting himself on fire.
Intro Post:
"Oh yeah you like that don't you?"

"Oh hell yeah I do..."

"Oh baby..."

Suddenly the ground rumbled and all the windowshades flew up at once, letting a horrible red light illuminate the room.

"DAMNITT I TOLD YOU TO WAIT FOR MY SIGNAL!"I said as I got up and went over to the window. "Oh shit..."

It was total chaos, there were buildings falling, people running around screaming, gigantic pileups on the roads...

"What's wrong?" she asked from the bed... I think her name was... Katie? No, Jenny. It was Jenny. Whatever...

I ran over next to the bed and started throwing my clothes on.

"Whats-" "Shut the fuck up damnitt!" I snapped. Katie had a horrible look on her face. I mean Jenny. Jenny had a horrible look on her face.

I grabbed my school bag, dumped the books on the floor, and threw in my cd player and my cds. I went to my closet and grabbed the pistol I keep hidden on the top shelf. I loaded it and stuck it in my pants.

"See you tomorrow Ka... Jenny!" I said as I ran out the door.

When I got outside I was horrified, it was even more horrible than before. I kept my hand on my gun as I ran down the street.

"Where the fuck am I going?" I asked myself. I stopped next to the elementary school to think.

"This place is obviously fucked up.." I thought aloud, "I gotta get out of here.."

I looked around in the redness and saw people screaming about the sky and the end of the world. I didn't want to be out in the open with all the crazy people... so I ran to the alley that led over to the next street. The bus station was only a couple blocks away.

I ran down the alley and climbed the chain link fence in it, and kept running. I came out onto the next street, and I could see noone outside. I walked hastily down the street, and started to notice an eerie silence, I couldn't hear anything but my own footsteps. Suddenly, everything went black. I nearly wet myself. I could see a beacon of light on something ahead, so I started running towards it, but someone grabbed me and stopped me.

I heard him say in a deep voice that scared me shitless, "It has begun." Then he started laughing. Oh god the laughter.

I screamed and he started to laugh harder.

I panicked and pulled out my gun, pointed it at him, and pulled the trigger.

*Click*

"WHAT THE FUCK!??!?" I screamed. This only made him laugh harder.

Suddenly I was falling, falling through blackness from nothing and towards nothing. I heard someone screaming and realized that it was me still. "Do not be consumed by fear," I heard a beautiful voice say. The voice made me feel so good inside, words cannot explain it. "Stay calm."

Suddenly there was a bright light, and it hurt my eyes. The light slowly faded and I could see that it was just the sun in the sky above me. I picked myself up and realized that I was in a forest. I looked myself over and found my backpack and gun were both gone, which confused me because I didn't remember losing them.

I looked around and saw a bunch of people also seemingly as confused as me.

"Toto, I don't think we're in Kansas anymore..."

Name: Aimiliona Kinnard

She has many friends at school, and usually hangs out with the punk and other counter-culture cliques. She likes to adorn her arms with bracelets, and wears a single pentagram around her neck, the symbol of her Wiccan faith. Her faith is very important to her, and she considers herself a true Wiccan, not to be likened to the "fluffy bunnies" that call themselves Wiccans for shock value. She lost her left pinky finger in a childhood lawnmower accident.

Current Clothing: Hair up in pigtails clipped with barrettes and rubber bands. Black short-sleeve Slipknot t-shirt. Tight jeans and blue flip flops.

Equipment: Watch, $40 in small bills, single joint, lighter, malachite stone.

Biography: Aimiliona's family is from Irish decent, though she was born in the States and doesn't have an accent. Her name is one that has been in the family for generations. Her parents are together and happily married, and she is an only child. She's always gone to public school.

Intro Post:

"Shut the fuck up," Aimiliona said. Tim laughed. "There is no way you got it that cheap."

"Hey, believe me or not babe. All's I'm sayin' is that I bought it real cheap, okay?"

"It must be bad then, there's gotta be some shit in it."

Tim shook his head. "I tried some this morning and I didn't have a bad trip. Teachers didn't notice or nothin'."

"Well let me have some then," she said.

"I knew you'd say that Aim. Here, I rolled one for you already." Aimiliona took the joint and put it in her front pocket.

"I'll save that for later," she said, winking at Tim. He laughed again. "Let's hit the road." Tim turned the ignition and the old car groaned to life. He put it into reverse and the engine emitted a high pitched whine. "You have to get that fixed, it's annoying as shit."

"I know, I know, stop your bitchin'. I'll do it when I have money. If it's the car or the weed which do you pick?"

"Just drive," she said, rolling her eyes. He stepped on the gas and the car lurched out of the parking spot. He tapped the gearshift into forward and the whine stopped. He pulled out of the school parking lot and turned onto the road.

"Damn, maybe that reefer was bad."

"What are you talking about?" Aimiliona asked.

"The sky's all red and stuff," he said, ducking close to the wheel to get a better look at the sky. Aimiliona turned her eyes to the sky as well and saw the red color it was becoming.

"That wasn't the weed, it is red," she said.

"What?"

"I dunno. I dunno what the fuck's goin' on."

"You mean it's not just me?" he asked.

"No! Jesus, don't you listen? The sky is fucking red."

"Oh," he said simply. "That... sucks." Aimiliona shook her head.

The ground shook. Her eyes shot open, darting from side to side. Her arms sprung out and grabbed onto the car around her.

"You feel that?" Tim asked.

"Of course I felt it, it shook the whole car."

"Yeah, what the fu–" Another rumble and the ground shook. The street ahead of their car split, a piece of it jutting out of the asphalt. Tim slammed on the brakes and twisted the wheel, but he could get away from the chunk of concrete. The car hit it and flipped over, skidding across the ground.

When it had slid to a stop, Aimiliona crawled out of her side coughing. Before she could turn around to check on Tim something hit her in the back of the head and knocked her out.

~

Aimiliona woke up on a bed of grass. Trees loomed over her. She sat up slowly and found that there were others in the same clearing.

"At least I'm in the forest," she said to herself.

Name: Will

Age: 24

Gender: Male

Hair Color: Brown

Eye Color: Amber

Ethnicity: White

Further Description: An average guy, slightly heavyset. He's smart enough to graduate university and get a decent paying job.

Current Clothing: Jeans and a t-shirt with a Rembrandt illustrated on the front.

Equipment: A pen in his pocket, Scissors, crumpled paper, a wallet filled with credit cards, cash, and change.

Biography: Will has few hobbies besides painting. While he admits he isn't Van Gogh, others feel he is too hard on himself and have even offered to purchase one of his better pieces. Will, however, would always refuse and hand them out free of charge.

Faced with indecision early in his life, Will studied to become an accountant while leaving his doors open to other opportunities. None came and Will decided that he liked the job, so he stuck through and graduated in the middle of his class. Out of university, he accepted a low paying job as an accountant in a large communications business. Having worked there for about 2 years, he was looking forward to a promotion or raise soon.

Intro Post:

I grimaced at the papers shooting out of the laser jet. It was that time of the year again: the project analysis. Now, for any normal company this would require nifty little charts and nice point form notes being compiled in PowerPoint and using a laser pointer or a stick to double the effect of the presentation.

However, this wasn't the average company. The boss insisted on hard copies of everything. They couldn't be little short form things either. I swear, the boss required you to make a sentence out of every word or have you repeat it. It got worse. Instead of just being able to hand the sheets of paper around, he liked them in large print up on those types of easels... for business presentations. That meant printing a bunch of paper, which I was currently waiting for, and cutting out all the little bits that needed it, including the graphs.

It's not as if my boss was technologically inept, though. He knew as much, hell, even more than the rest of us or he wouldn't be at his post. It's just that I'm sure he longed for the good 'ol days where slaves were plentiful and the telegraph was just a new gadget.

The printer finally stopped and I picked up the stack of large typeface, carrying it back to my desk. I absentmindedly looked around while my scissors cut off the extra white around a pie graph that, I'm sure, would have looked stunning in full colour and 3-d on computer. The clock had already struck five and the office was practically empty. With me being the exception, of course. The boss needed it done for tomorrow, and, having only sprung it on me today; I had no choice to stay late, lest I lose my nice advance bonus.

To my surprise, I found Joe poking his head through my cubicle door. Joe was the closest thing to my friend at the company. We've gone for drinks a few times, but he was nothing close to a best friend. Just a mutual acquaintance.

"Hey Joe, what are you doing here so late?"

Joe looked directly at me, something he had never done. This guy was one of those timid types, never giving full eye contact and usually had more fun alone than with others. His eyes flashed and darkness flashed through his eyes. The usual blue was replaced with pitch black and the mischievous, glittering eyes now soulless pits. Normally, such things never come to mind about eyes, but if you had seen these, you'd know that such things could never be explained.

"Subject: Will. Age: 24." A chill ran through my spine. Joe's voice had become harsh and hoarse, distorting it to an almost demon-like quality.

"Hey... Joe. This isn't funny, man."

"Height: 5"11'. Weight:..."

"Joe! What? Have you been spying on me or something?" The newfound Joe continued to ramble off my statistics, all the while staring at me with those soulless eyes. He took one step forward.

"Period of evaluation: 2 years. Host name: Joe." I took a step backwards. Joe advanced slowly, pushing me to my back against the wall. I could do nothing but watch as he came closer.

"Hey, Joe! What the hell? Seriously, this isn't funny. You're scaring me. There, you happy? You've scared me, now... just stop." Amazingly, he did. I began to laugh at myself, thinking how stupid I had been for such an immature joke when a lilting voice floated from my cubicle entrance.

"You will not harm him!" I followed the voice to the woman standing past Joe. It was Catherine, from marketing. We had chatted a few times but had never really hit it off. She seemed different now, as if a sort of aura was given off. Then it hit me: her eyes were pure white, her pupil and iris covered over.

Joe turned to the intruder, "No! This one is mine!" He snarled at Cathy, unsure of whether to turn to her or continue to advance on me. He chose the latter.

"I said you must leave this one!" This time Joe took a step in the opposite direction.

"I will not give him up to the likes of you so easily!"

"Then you shall face the consequences, however dire they may be."

"Ah... Well, then I suppose it must. I will enjoy this." A grin spread across Joe's face and he ran into Catherine, taking both of them through several cubicle walls. From afar, Cathy yelled for me to run. I was paralyzed in place, not able to move or tear my gaze from the illogical body slam.

"GO!" Catherine shouted louder this time and snapped me out of my gaze. I sprinted out of the cubicles and towards the stairs. The elevators would take much too long. Then the sight hit me.

Through the glass windows, a world toiled. The sky was shaded a deep crimson, with the clouds running like spilt blood on an open battlefield. Rain poured from the sky, droplets of tainted blood. I looked across the street to the other skyscraper. At the top, it had turned black, with sickening green cracks crawling downward. The top had already turned to ruins.

I bolted through the door and took the steps three at a time. If it was happening across the street it would be happening here and I couldn't be stuck in the middle of it twelve stories up.

Out of breath, I burst through the door as the pus coloured lines appeared on the main floor roof. Red welts grew out of the converging cracks and the very edged seemed to grow infected and turn black. Black ash rained upon me while I sprinted to the main exit, hoping with all my life that the building wouldn't give. I reached the doors and pulled them open, jumping through them into the street. Picking myself off the ground, I turned to see the last of the building fall with a thump into the ground, raising black ash throughout the air.

Screams echoed from all places. Terrified mothers held their children close after what should have been a peaceful walk. I walked numbly, not able to absorb all that had happened. It seemed like a nightmare. Reality had turned in on itself.

I felt a hand on my shoulder and I turned around, terrified that Joe could have somehow escaped from the crumbling building as was back to finish what he had started. Instead, it was Catherine, smiling serenely at me.

"Will... Do not fear. You must keep hope high if you are to survive through this. You may be the last hope for your kind. I wish I could do more." The peaceful voice soothed Will of his anxiety and fear. Cathy stepped back and raised her arms above her head. A pinpoint of light appeared, blinding to look at. It wandered through the air until lit came to rest upon my chest. The light grew around me and stopped when I was enclosed in a bubble of brilliance. I felt weightless, suspending in nothingness. There was only the bubble and me.

Time became nothing. It took an eternity, or perhaps only a few minutes, for my feet to finally touch ground again. This was not the hard, packed ground of pavement with busy streets and noisy traffic. It was grass, soft and wet with dew. I opened my eyes.

For a moment, I felt blind, but it soon passed as my eyes adjusted from the harsh brilliance of the bubble to the sombre atmosphere before me. Gnarled trees stood on every side, disfigured shapes of horrible abominations. I heard some cries and looked around, surprised to see I wasn't alone.

Ok, let's get this show on the road.

Posting Details: Post the following information on your posts so it is easier to remember things.

Character Name
(Optional) Location

John Barton
In the Forest
******

John stared at the group in complete silence, still shocked from what had happened. It didn't make sense, this had to be a dream or something. A very realistic dream. A very very realistic dream. Too realistic; it couldn't be a dream. He faintly registered something touvhing his shoulder. He snapped out of his shock and spun around. A boy with blonde hair and blue eyes was standing there with a frightened look on his face.

"Um...d-do you k-know where we a-are?" He asked, stuttering out of fright.

"No, I don't..." John said suprisingly clearly. The boy's face dropped.

"Oh...ok..." He muttered. John was suddenly filled with pity for this boy. So young, yet this happened to him. John tried to think of a way to comfort him, but just couldn't. A noise disturbed his thinking. He was about to dissmiss it when he realized it was the boy, crying.

"Hey, don't cry," He said, crouching a little so he and the boy were looking eye to eye, "My name is John, John Barton."

The kid just cried louder. John's mind raced, "He, kid, listen! What's your name?"

The boy stopped for a second, "Adrian," He said slowly.

"Ok, Adrian, listen to me. I promise to get you out of here, back to your home."

"And just how do you plan to do that?" Said someone loudly. John looked over at the rest of the group, who were now recovering.

"Well, um...first thing we gotta do is find out where we are and how we got here," John said nervously.

"Perhaps I can help."

John spun around in suprise. A man wearing a shabby cloak stood there, his face covered with a scratch and scraped metal mask.

"And who are you?" Someone asked.

"Your only chance. We have to get out of here fast, I'll tell you what you need to know later when we're safe."

"Safe from what?" A bewildered John asked.

"I can't talk now. All of those that want to live, follow me." The man said. He walked over to a tree and leaned against it.

John turned to the rest of the group, "I think we should follow him."

"What if he leads us into a trap?" Someone asked.

"Well, would you rather wait here in this Dark forest for those monsters to find us?!" Everyone was silent, "Ok, let's vote on this then. Who wants to go with him?"

Mysterious Man
In the Forest
*****

I watched from but tree branch roost as the group recovered from the sudden shock. It was understandable that they should be too scared to move after such an encounter. It wasn't natural for someone's world to be ripped from their hands, only to be replaced by something so foriegn.

As they began to move again I slipped down from the high place. Silent as a mouse I landed on the greeb grass. Like a shadow I moved between the trees, drawing closer to them. I was soon close enough to here them talking.

"Well, um...first thing we gotta do is find out where we are and how we got here," John said nervously.

"Perhaps I can help." I said, stepping out into the small clearing. Everyone spun around, suprised.

"And who are you?" One of the panicked men asked shakily.

"Your only chance. We have to get out of here fast, I'll tell you what you need to know later when we're safe." I replied, calm and steady.

"Safe from what?" Asked one.

"I can't talk now. All of those that want to live, follow me." I said. I sauntered over to a tree and leant against it while the group discussed this new development.

"I think we should follow him."

"What if he leads us into a trap?"

"Well, would you rather wait here in this Dark forest for those monsters to find us?!"

There was a pause.

"Ok, let's vote on this then. Who wants to go with him?"

I sighed. This would take time. Time we didn't have.

After standing and looking around, he realized that he was far from alone, he was surrounded by a group of people, then looking to his left, he heard a man say to a little boy

"Hey, don't cry, my name is John, John Barton."

then he heard the man who evidentally was named John

"Ok, Adrian, listen to me. I promise to get you out of here, back to your home."

"How do you plan to do that?" Jake asked John in a defiant voice

"Well, um...first thing we gotta do is find out where we are and how we got here," John replied

"Mabye I can help"
Jake looked over and realized that this was the man who saved him from before.
Jake then proceeded to listen intentlly to what this man had to say.

"And who are you?" Someone asked.

"Your only chance. We have to get out of here fast, I'll tell you what you need to know later when we're safe."

"Safe from what?" John asked.

"I can't talk now. All of those that want to live, follow me." The man said. He walked over to a tree and leaned against it.

"What if he leads us into a trap?" Someone asked.

"Well, would you rather wait here in this Dark forest for those monsters to find us?!" Everyone was silent, "Ok, let's vote on this then. Who wants to go with him?"

"Well I vote we go, I don't know about the rest of you but this man saved me once, and I want to hear him out." Jake spoke out and said to everyone else in the group.

Jake then moved to a tree on the right of John and said, "If you are going with this guy then come sit over here, if not, go to the left."

Jereth Blanchard
Forest
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Jereth looked around at the group. He was unsure of who they were, how they had all gotten here, and Why they were here. Of course, he could really care less. He was caught up in his thoughts. Namely, he was pondering what - WHO Jereth thought with a silent inward chuckle - caused that feminine voice he had heard before blacking out. What did it mean? Where did it come from? He was certain he didn't see anything, but how sure was he? Was that part of his memory blank for a reason? These questions and more were flooding Jereth's mind, and no matter what he did, he couldn't stop them any more than he could answer them.
He felt a figure near him that said something - 'Perhaps I can help.' registered within Jereth's subconscious, but he didn't know this until later - but he didn't hear it. He heard more talking, but again, his mind was too occupied with its own problems to care about those around him.
After a bit of time of standing there replaying the event over in his mind, he remembered the last thing he heard before waking - 'Thou shalt repent thou sins if thou art to survive to see the coming darkness.' He didn't know who said it, just that the voice was drastically different from the feminine voice he heard before blacking out. He mulled over this for a time, trying to decipher it.
Jereth's eyes focused onto the man who had spoke near him. The man wore a robe with its hood up, and when the man jerked his hear toward him, Jereth noticed the face was covered by a mask - The Man in the Iron Mask, Jereth thought with an inward chuckle; he had always liked that book.
Just as suddenly as the man had jerked his head in his direction, it spun away. The man's head moved as if it could see something that was either quite far away, or was unable to be seen by the others.
Jereth returned to his thoughts, not caring that he may be stuck here; only caring that he had questions he wanted answered, and that perhaps those answers lay inside himself. He leaned against a nearby tree and his mind focused itself inward.
--------------------------------------------------
19 Sharuc, 100PH
I looked out across the scorched landscape today. I could almost spot a splotch of green amongst the dead, blackened soil. Tis a good sign, as it means the earth is healing. I also saw a few new faces within the usual crowds, which signified the return of the market to our battle-scarred lands. After our farms were destroyed during the - war? battle? resistence? who can tell anymore? - the country surrounding fell on hard times. Our economy was nearly dead, and we almost lost our land. But then a man came. He helped us get back to our former glory, and now the markets have returned.
Once, while walking through the marketplace in disguise, I saw someone that seemed oddly familiar. I couldn't place my finger on it, but he struck me to be someone I knew once. Still, I was quite reluctant to speak with him, but an air of uncertainty hung about him. Normally, I feel the good or the evil in those who pass by me. But this man...This man was shrouded in utter uncertainty. I was oddly enticed, but afraid of this. I know not why, but I was. As soon as I came to a decision about what I was to do, the man was gone, yet another face lost into the crowd...
----------------------------------------------------
The hunter stood in front of the obsidian throne. He bowed and said, "Excellency, I have completed the task that thou hast so graciously given onto me. I have come to break our company, as reluctant as I desire to do so. I must be moving on, and I do hope that thou shalt come to understand my reasoning later."
The shrouded figure sitting upon the throne nodded, and seemed to speak, but there wasn't any sound. The hunter nodded and turned, walking out of the great hall. Suddenly, the figure in the throne sharpened, the features becoming strikeningly feminine. She said a single word, "Fool."
-----------------------------------------
Jereth snapped to attention. He was sweating. Sitting on the ground, Jereth was breathing heavily. Not knowing how he had gotten there, he looked around to find no one paying him any mind. Sighing, he slumped against the tree he was against. Now, instead of having answers, he had still more questions. Who was the reader of the journal entry? Who was the "man shrouded in uncertainty? Who was the woman on the obsidian throne? What "battle-scarred landscape" was referred to? Jereth closed his eyes and let his mind settle, storing the new information with the old information, what little he had anyway. Jereth stood and looked around. Everyone still seemed to be where they were when he blacked out, so he waited to see what they'd do.
Aimiliona Kinnard
~
The shady figure was now leaning against the tree. He had pulled up into the clearing and was already bossing people around. Gave them an ultimatum: go with him or die. What kind of a question was that? Anyone in their right mind would go with him, but maybe he meant them ill and was just trying to make them follow him. To their death even.
His true intentions really couldn't be known, nothing could be known in this foreign place. This was nowhere near where Tim's car had overturned. The forest was so peaceful compared to the destruction she saw in the city. The blood red sky, the shadows that fell on the streets. Her memory slowly sunk through her subconcious down to visual level. She played the crash over and over in slow motion. She noticed Tim's limp body in the corner of her vision. Was that blood pooling under him, or just a shadow from the car? Was Tim still alive?
If he was, he wasn't here. Whatever had brought her here hadn't brought him. The bastard. She needed Tim now. She felt alone in the cold forest. And now this figure stood before her, with a metal mask like some bad horror movie character.
Of course she would follow him. But she already didn't like his attitude. She did need him though, and she hated that.
Masked Man
The Forest
*****
I looked deep into the dark depths of the forest. I could not see them, nor could I hear them, but I could feel them. They weren't simply manipulating creatures as I had suspected, they were actually sending those things. They were close, and they wanted blood.
I casually moved in the direction the they were coming from and silently drew my twin daggers. They were close now, very close. I stepped behind a tree and waited as the group bickered. Closer and closer they came.
one...
I still could not here them, they were moving too sliently.
two...
A twig snapped in the distance. They were close.
three!
I swung my dagger out from under my cloak and into the bush near me. The group was staring at me now, wondering what I was doing. I drew my dagger out of the bush, it's blade still imbedded in the foul smelling creature. I kicked it off and readied my blades, cursing myself.
I had known they were coming, but I still wasn't prepared.
The Forest
*****
I remember my first battle like yesterday. It embarrases me to no end. I am sure that I could have done something a little more useful in someway, not just fainting in the middle of it. But I was young then, exceptions can be made.
*****
Adrian watched in horror as monster after monster jumped out of the trees. Some were almost dog-like, some were as large as boulders, and some seemed to be made of shadow, but one thing was sure; they all scared him. He backed up slowly as the things advanced, shivering out of fear.
He turned around and slammed into something. Losing his balance, he fell backwards. He opened his eyes. He tried to run, to scream, to do anything, but it was no use. He was stunned with fear as the monster came closer.
It was a mass of black arms and legs and some kind of face. Adrian tried to stand up but he still couldn't. The thing raised it's hand. Adrian closed his eyes and waited. Waited. A scream filled the air, one so horrible that Adrian instantly moved his hands to his ears to try to block it out.
After a while Adrian opened his eyes. The monster was dead, and the masked man was standing over him fighting more monsters.
Perhaps it was too much for his body, because Adrian found his vision blurry, and then everything went black.
He noticed that no one seemed to come sit by him, however from the expression on everyone's face, he knew that they had made up their minds.
Then suddenly, The masked man swung his blade for what seemed like no reason, and followed by that, monster that lkooked like they were made of shadow came from out of the forest.
He saw a man He could not give chase because he was paralyzed in fear. Thoughts ran through his mind... Is this the end, what will happen to me, will I die.
Then came a screech so loud that words could not describe, he knew not the location, or meaning of this screech... but it made him feel tired... his vision then went black and he passed out.
Jereth
Fighting
---------------------------
Jereth barely registered a sound. The next few moments, Jereth became a bystander in his own body. His hands a blur, he dropped his hand into his pocket and got his butterfly knife. He spun it open with a speed that was unbelieveable, and flipped it. Catching the blade, he flung it, registering a squish instead of a clang. There was a slight thud. Jereth walked forward calmly, and retrieved the blade from the forehead of the beast. An evil chuckle escaped Jereth's throat, and Jereth looked at the body. Putting his boot upon the head of the monster, Jereth forced his foot to the ground, smashing the skull and covering the bottom of his boot in brain matter.
Another evil laugh escaped his throat. Bending over, he wiped the blade on the body of the creature whose head he had just flattened. Standing up, he spun the blade dextrously in a deadly dance of death around his body, daring any to get closer.
Jereth's body - For his mind still wasn't in control of it - spun quickly at a sound behind it. Immediately, Jereth thrust the knife forward, catching a creature in the heart. Pulling it out, he spun full circle and drove the knife into the back of the neck of the creature. Another full spin drove the knife into the throat of the beast. When the blade pulled out this time, Jereth plunged it deep into its forehead, brain juices leaking out around his hand.
The creature fell, dead, and Jereth - his mind, that is; his body was still AWOL and under the control of something - was astounded to realize the entire encounter took all but 3 seconds. What happened next, Jereth didn't know, for he got another vision - Flashback he thought later on with a very audible laugh.
------------------------------------------------------
I walked through the wilderness, unchallenged. Even the night creatures shyed away from me, for this was my land, and none would think to challenge my claim upon it. I was astounded at the beauty the land had reclaimed in such short time. It was a few short months since I had looked out upon the barren landscape. Now, however, it seemed to have gotten back to where it was, vegetation wise. True, there were few farmers tilling the land, but now that the lush beauty of the land had returned, they would as well in due time.
Suddenly, without any warning whatsoever, I heard sounds. First they appeared to be coming from a nearby tree. Then the sounds came from every direction. I was almost afraid, but then I remembered where I was. I was on my own land; my own territory. With this thought in mind, I drew my sword, and said authoratatively, "Infernal noisemakers. Cease thy racket. Thou shan't hope to challenge me here, for this is my province. If you cease, I shalt not prosecute thou for attacking me."
But they didn't stop. In fact, they made more noise. The closer I listened, the more I could hear growls and gutteral speech within the noise. I shivered unknowingly at the sounds. They sent a cold feeling through my body. I didn't know what was causing those sounds; I had never heard them before. But whatever it was, they weren't friendly.
All around me, beings appeared - materialized is a better word, for they did; one moment it was empty space, the next they were there. I shouted it this time, "STOP IN THE NAME OF THE KING!"
This merely excited them. They closed in around me, drawing ever closer, their growls growing ever higher, their apparent taste for blood about to be sated. I finally got a good look at them. They were shrouded in shadow, but at this distance, you can see right through it. At first glance, they were human, but a closer inspection said otherwise. There were black horns protruding from their heads, above a set of glowing red eyes. They all had long, jet black hair, which fell down around their nude bodies. For their hands, they had the paws of a lion, with their claws visible. Their legs were bound together, but somehow the still moved steadily forward.
But then, a ray of hope shone upon me. For in front of me, one of the beasts fell, a knife in between its horns. I spun and saw a human striding through the circle. The newcomer walked right past me and retrieved his weapon, crushing the head beneath a heavy boot. The man was dressed in all black, with various chains upon his body. He smiled as the head crushed below him, and then one of the creatures made a noise behind him. He spun and put the dagger into the heart of the creature. Pulling it out, he spun full circle and drove the knife into the back of the neck of the creature. Another full spin drove the knife into the throat of the beast. When the blade pulled out this time, he drove it between the horns of this creature, much like he did to the first.
Turning around, he said something in a language I had never heard, "Dos zhal sevir nindolen thac'zilen lu' neitar yutsu, pholor jiv'undus d' elghinn."
The creatures stopped their advance, and looked at the insane man, appearing to disobey whatever he just said. But, they thought otherwise, and disappeared into shadow. The man turned to me and said...
---------------------------------------
Jereth realized the battle was over. All around him, the others were breathing heavily. Also around him, he had 5 of the dead cratures, all with head wounds, some with their head crushed period. After a couple seconds, he also realized he had control of his body again. Again, he had so many questions, but few answers. He sat down with the bodies around him and began meditating. Having done this before, it was quite easy. He meditated until it was time to move on once more.
Puzzled of these rather unusual happenings, I stand quietly among the others. I dont see anyone noticing me majorly, but it's fine for me. More time for myself.
Tagging along seems to be the best choice. Splitting apart in a situation like this is far from clever.
Everything is rather dark and the surroundings dont feel safe at all. Although I dont know if anyone here is to be trusted, trusting them is the only good choice around.
Perhaps it is best for me to not stick out from the others. Just blend.
In the forest
************
The unfamiliar voices brought Rend back to consciousness. He slowly sat up and looked around, his eyes were burning and all he could see were blurred images. At first the cobwebs of sleep made him think that he was still dreaming. He rubbed his temples and noticed that they didn't hurt as much as they did a few minutes ago.
A few minutes ago? Rend wasn't even sure if he slept for only a few minutes, or if he was awake at all. He slapped his cheek and tried to focus on the images around him.
When his eyes adjusted, he saw that he was in a forest and he was not alone.
He couldn't quite catch what the voices were talking about. Something about getting out of here. Getting out of where? And a pair of names, "John Barton" and "Adrian".
"And just how do you plan to do that?" Someone asked loudly.
Rend walked towards the sound of the voices.
"Perhaps I can help."
Rend froze. That voice. That was the voice he heard when he was in his room. Maybe he WAS still in his room.
Wow, talk about weird dreams, Rend thought, I really shouldn't have drank that last bottle.
"I can't talk now. All of those who want to live, follow me." The familiar voice sounded serious, Rend walked a little closer to the group. "Uh..." He started.
"What if he leads us into a trap?"
"Excu..." Rend was not sure how he should introduce himself.
"Well, would you rather wait here in this Dark forest for those monsters to find us?!"
Apparently, the other people could not hear him, dumb dream. He started flapping his arms, maybe he could fly out of here.
"Ok, let's vote on this then. Who wants to go with him?"
Rend stopped, everybody was looking at him. Embarassed (he wasn't sure how you could really be embarassed in a dream), he stopped and raised his hands, lifted his ring and middle fingers, and sheepishly said, "peace?"
There was a pause. "Ok, let's vote on this then. Who wants to go with him?" somebody said.
"If you are going with this guy then come sit over here, if not, go to the left." another one said.
Rend was not sure why, but something told him that left was not a good way to go.
Vrazix. \\ Where else
Vrazix leaned against the tree waiting for something to happen. The masked man was vague in his words. There was nowhere to go but with him, because if anyone he knew what was going on. He mentioned something of a vote as one from the group questioned his order for them to follow. Vrazix knew there was no choice, and stalling wasnt going to help. Infact, it didnt. As they sat like ducks a foul stench made its way to their location, and as it got stronger, the old man got more tense.
With a quick movement, he slayed a beast that had appeared from the darkness of the forest. Upon retrieving his dagger, he continued slaying more of the beasts. He seemed to be able to handle himself. Vrazix didnt feel too in danger, this guardian, or whoever he was, didnt seem too bothered. That was, of course until he felt the cold slime and hot breath of a beast behind the tree he was on as it rubbed against him. Vrazix quickly grabbed his revolver from his back holster, jumped back, and fired two quick shots into the beast as its arm fell to the ground in a lazy swing at Vrazix, followed by its body.
"Old man! How many of these things are there!" Vrazix yelled in a panic, as he scanned around the perimeter, looking for more vile beasts to slay.
**********
Well, as it turned out, left was not a good way to go. Because as he stepped towards the right, a dagger flew out of the masked man's hands and zipped past Rend's ear. Rend turned and saw a weird shadowy figure drop to the ground where he was standing just a few seconds ago, the man's dagger sticking out of its eye.
Shocked, Rend looked around and saw that more of the 'monsters' were swarming in on the group. Reacting on his instincts, Rend ducked under the masked man and grabbed two sharp rocks, one in each hand. He wasn't sure if the rocks would do at all against these monstrosities but he just aimed and threw anyway. The rock hit one the monsters in the back of the head with a loud thwonk.
Rend let out a "woohoo" that was cut short when he saw that the monster which was struck by his rock turned around and ran towards him. Thankfully, his body's reflexes were still working although his brain was numb with shock. He felt his arm move and throw the other rock which struck the monster square in the forehead (forehead?, Rend thought, yeah well it looks like it). But just like the first time, the monster seemed to feel nothing at all.
His body crippled with fear, and the charging thing just a few paces away, Rend summoned all his energy and did the only thing he knew would save him, he called for help.
---
The cold breeze whipped around the tanned skin of Adam as he stood motionless in the gloomy forest. His hands were folded and his shoulders were hunched, and he shifted weight from his right left to his left leg. It was not intentional, but simply a subconscious instinct that took over most humans during a nervous or scared emotional state.
Adam was quiet, and he simply listened to the others talk, trying to absorb more information. Despite listening to the conversation between the strange masked man and the others who had appeared in a similar fashion as he had, Adam's eyes drifted into the darkness of the forest. The branches seemed to lack light, and swayed with an eerie elegance as the cool wind rustled them. Every sound that emanated from the darknesss seemed to send a shiver of fear down his spine.
A few moments had passed, and Adam followed the group, lurking somewhere in the middle. Frankly, he didn't feel like staying around the edges of the group, for he didn't know what crept beyond his vision in the forest.
ANOTHER MYSTERY MAN! :O!
***
He sat silently in the trees, swaying from side to side in an eerie wind. The leaves above him rustled, a dry whisper with no essense of life. This had no effect on him, he had much more important things to tend to. They would be arriving soon.
It suddenly became bright, as if the sun had burst apon the spot. He didnt dare to avert his eyes, yet it was impossible to see anything for several moments. As quickly as the light appeared, it faded away, leaving several humans in its wake. He leaned forward to study their faces, then realizing that several of them were very young. This almost made him smile.
He waited for them to awaken from their unnatural slumber. Eventually, they all blinked and looked around. Soon they would realize the magnitude of their situation, but at the moment they seemed dazed, confused, ignorant to what was going on. They talked to each other franticly at first, trying to figure out where they where and why they all had a similar experiance only minutes before. No one knew. They were in for several more surprises.
Shortly after their arrival, a masked man appeared from the brush. After convincing them of his trust, he warned them of the dangers that lurked in the forest. He urged them to follow him, and to continue quickly.
He watched as the first beast appeared from the brush, and watched as it was slayed. Then he watched as several more were killed by the human's devastating blows. The men continued fighting, and the beasts continued to come. How long they could last could not be determined, but time was running short.
*****
I looked around my feet. Five or six mangled bodies lay at my feet. I smiled a little; they were underestimating me. I could take advantage of that. But now was not the time, I had to get them to safety.
"Do you trust me now?" I asked quizzically. All of them slowly nodded there heads, "Good. We need to move quickly, they'll send more force next time. Follow me."
I quickly walked to the center of the clearing. Pushing aside those in my way, I pressed my hand against the ground and focused. The familiar feeling of unlocking crept into my hand. There was a click and a trap door swung open right underneath were my hand had been.
"We'll be moving underground, it should be safer down there." I said to the small group.
"Should be?" Someone said, but it was too late. I was already down, and so were several others. No turning back now.
The Caves
*****
John slipped Adrian's limp body into the cave, being careful not to hurt him. He then jumped down himself. It took a minute for his eyes to adjust. The cave was small and dark, with a tunnel leading off into the distance to John's right, and a spring to John's left.
"Drink and eat what you want here, we'll be moving all day." The man said. John quickly lifted Adrian over to the well and splashed some water on his face. He stirred. John splashed some more. Adrian sat up so quickly that he almost hit John.
"You ok?" John asked.
"Yeah...I'm ok..." Adrian said, shivering. John looked at him understandingly. On top of being moved to another world or something with a bunch of strangers, he had been in a battle with monsters.
"Listen, we'll get through this. Don't worry about the monster, that masked man can protect us." John said, trying to comfort him. He grabbed a nearby loaf of bread and ripped it in half, holding one half up to Adrian, "Eat and drink. I have a feeling we'll need all we can get."
Adrian took the bread slowly. He was still shaky, pale, and still had a scared look in his eyes. John sighed; it wasn't good for someone so young to have to worry about so much.
"We're moving," The masked man said loudly, "Let's go."
There was a flash of light, and several lanterns that John hadn't noticed before were now lit and ready for use. The man handed them out to some of the people, and then took one for himself and walked down the dark tunnel.
I awoke in a cave. "Drink and eat what you want here, we'll be moving all day." The man said
I notices several canisters of water with straps so that you could put them around your neck. I grabbed one had a few sips of the water, and put it around my neck. Then I picked up a large hunk of bread, split it in two, and shoved half in my pocket. Then I began eating the other half, which was easily the best bread which I have ever eaten. "We're moving," The masked man said loudly, "Let's go."
Noticing that it was apparentally time to move, I refilled my water canister and followed behind the group.
Adrian slowly followed the adults into the darkness of the tunnel. The masked man and John and some other people were holding lanterns, but Adrian still felt uneasy about going into the tunnel. A strong hand gripped his, and he looked up to see John standing over him.
"Let's go," He said softly. So soft that Adrian barely heard it. He simply nodded and walked forward with John. For some reason he was more comfortable with John. It was almost like John was his brother, but at the same time he wasn't. Adrian's mind whirled as he tried to understand why he trusted John so much. There wasn't a reason that made any sense.
Completely and utterly confused, Adrian resolved that before this adventure ended, he would find out why he trusted John so much.
John Barton
The Tunnels
*****
It felt like John had been walking for hours. Pain shot through his body with each step and occasionaly he would hit a rock that was jutting out from the cave walls. He looked down at Adrian, expecting to see a worn out little boy. Instead he was as energetic as ever. He looked like he was about to break into a run!
John didn't get it. For some reason Adrian seemed to trust him undoubtingly, and it seemed to John that trust was rubbing off on him. He stopped when Adrian did and let him do whatever he was gonna do. He held up the group, but he somehow knew that Adrian was doing something important.
Adrian stood up and in his hand he held an odd crystal of some sort. It was blueish-green, with a hint of purple. He smiled as he showed John his findings. John smiled back. They were like brothers. They knew each other right from the start, as if they had know each other their whole lives.
Like brothers...
Adam continued to walk with the group, remaining mostly in silence. He was not shy, nor was he trying to avoid a conversation -- He was simply trying to figure out what the hell had happened. Despite his calm and collected look on the outside, his brain was working in a frenzy trying to piece together all the information he had seen. None of it made sense.
He continued to trudge on, step by step. His legs were beginning to feel the familiar burning sensation of over-exertion, but he had had pushed himself much harder than previously. He knew he could force himself to continue walking for much longer.
Adam continued to walk at a quicker pace, slowly nodding and smiling by people who looked at him as he passed. He walked up to the Masked Man who was leading the group. Quietly, he asked, "Do you mind if I ask you a few questions?"
Or maybe not telling him the whole truth. I was torn between what I wanted to do and what I had to do.
"I...cannot say much right now. But you aren't far from your home." I said slowly and carefully. I had to make sure I didn't say too much. The one seemed to be suprised by this answer. Would he ever get home? What had happened to him?
Even though the events had occurred a short while ago, they began to fade from his memory. It seemed too unreal for his mind to believe what had happened, and all of the events that made no sense reminded him of a distant dream.
B.J. looked up from the cash register and glanced at his watch and saw it was 9:00 p.m. "I'm leaving now, boss!" he yelled to his boss, Mr. Tiston.
"Okay, see you tomorrow!" Mr. Tiston yelled back.
"You bet!" B.J. replied with a grin, he loved his job. 10 hours a day, and all the nuts and bolts he could eat. (A small joke B.J. says to people who ask him what he does.) He closed the cash register and locked it, and walked out from behind the counter. He headed toward the automatic sliding doors, and they opened when he got within range of their sensors. He walked down the parking lot and reached the sidewalk. He turned left, pulled out a small flashlight, turned it on, and started walking toward his apartment, only two blocks over. Suddenly, he saw movent out of the corner of his left eye. He grabbed the hilt of the switchblade in his pocket and cautiously continued walking. Suddenly, a man appeared almost right next to him. "Who the hell are you!" he said angrily as he drew his switchblade.
"Relax, I am here to talk with you."
"I don't want to talk with anyone right now, get away from me."
"I cannot. I must talk to to you."
"I don't give a damn what you can or cannot do, or what you must or must not do, get away, now!" B.J. said, the level of his voice rising.
"I cannot." the man said, as he reached out to touch B.J.
"Don't touch me!" B.J. shouted as he slashed at the mans wrist. To his amazement the knife went right through the mans wrist, but nothing happened. "What the hell are you!" he shouted as he recoiled in fear.
"I must talk to you." the man repeated as he touched B.J.
All of the sudden, B.J. awoke, looked around, and found himself lying next to a tree. He sat up with a jolt, and rapidly looked around. He saw he was in some sort of jungle or forest, and there were other people nearby. He looked down at his hand, and saw his switchblade was still in it. He slowly stood up and cautiously walked toward the group of people.
John knew that they had walked for a long time. He was completely exhausted. Feet aching, muscles hurting, and a cramp or two. John looked over in disbelief at Adrian, who was as energetic as ever.
How? Was John's only thought. He didn't have time to think anything else, he smacked his head into someone's back. Hey, we stopped.
"Come here." Said the masked man. John looked up. There was an opening that light streamed through ahead. Outside? Maybe, they'd just have to see. John walked forward slowly with the rest of the group, practically dragging his burning feet.
John heard gasps as people walked through the archway. As he drew closer he found that the archway had been handcarved, covered with a hundred different symbols. He stepped through. He stood for a moment in shock, mouth hanging wide open.
They were staring at what looked like an underground city. There were buildings built into the stone on the other side of a huge, endless chasm. Two paths led to the city on either side, where two huge stone doors stood like sentries.
"We'll rest here tonight. Don't stray far from me, unless you want to die," the masked man said loudly so we all heard.
Walked out of the tunnel and stood still, mouth open and eyes wide in awe. "Damn!" he thought to himself, "This must have taken a freakin forever to the tenth power squared to build it all."
He stood at the tunnel entrance and just stared for who knows how long. When he broke his gaze and looked at the rest of the group, most of them were already heading toward the city. He ran to catch up with them. "Hey! wait up!" he called. He caught up to the end of the group by the time they had entered the city. He just walked automaticly, takinging everything about the amazing city. It defied all logic and most everything else. It made insanity look normal. It was made completely out of stone, yet they way some of the buildings were built, defied the laws of physics. And the laws of Gravity. And every other law that could be broken. Einstein and Newton would have a feild day trying to figure it all out.
