View Full Version : Original CounterStrike?

Hi there, CrankyBuddha here, and i was wondering if anyone still plays the original counterstrike. The reason i ask is that im buying half life platinum soon, and im totally amped about it and counterstrike. but then i remebered that there is counterstrike source, and conditon zero out right now, and my hope kinda deflated. And one of the other games that comes with half life platinum is called team fortress, which, according to the back of the box, is very popular. Can anyone make me feel better by telling me the status of the CS and TF online community?

I know the upcoming WarBoard's game night (this sunday, the 24th) will be using the original CS, version 1.6. But unless you buy it within the next day or so, you won't be able to play then. Overall, I believe there is still a farily large community that plays the original CS and half-life mods. After all, not everyone has bought HL2 so not everyone can make use of the new engine in CS: Source.

Counter-Strike 1.6 is still more popular, but the Source population is growing and will soon overtake 1.6 as people upgrade to the new Counter-Strike version.

well, the only reason i dont have hl2 and source is that im running a really ghetto dinosaur of a computer right now....500 Mhz, 128 MB ram, win 98, lol and oh yeah, an 8 MB graphics card. Oh well, thx for the help, and ul all be pleased to know that im buying my new laptop soon (Dell XPS orgiginal, not gen2 the gen 2 sucks) with a 2.8 and radeon 9000, so i should probly also be playing source when 50 bucks falls out of the sky and i can buy hl2

Nooooooooo!I'm the only one still playing CS1.3!And,yeah yeah!TFC!Not many people playing it anymore though.

team forteress is a popular game, but if you wanna buy a cool game that runs on the net, try half-life 2!

i will hopefully buy hl2 when i get my new comp, which should be some time in the next....year.

Yeah, CS 1.6 is still more popular than CS:S, mainly because of the existing userbase, the amount of custom maps, the hardware requirements, and the cost.

Haha. Sure is. The only reason its funny is because the engine and the frame rate are so lame.

The engine's the same, just the models and textures suck.

i find c.s 1.6 really cool, try play it on the net, therea re cool servers that are modified and the new cs 1.6 mod is called Cs warcraft, and at the brgining you chose your race, adn i you kill, you get XP, and you can get lvl up and chose powers, i love this game

I play 1.6 alot. It's fun, but I wonder what 1.3's like. I'd probably get owned repeatedly because it's so different.

There's no different in 1.3.Only it's different in Spectator mode.There's no Map overview.

P.S:I've updated my Cs to 1.5 now.I'm lazy to logon to Steam just to play 1.6

Yes there's a difference - more bugs, more exploits, less balenced play, less maps, less weapons, worse graphics, etc.
