Best RPG at E3 (http://flagshipstudios.org/node/315)

Hellgate: London News (http://flagshipstudios.org/taxonomy/term/4) submitted by Jeff (http://flagshipstudios.org/user/2) on May 21, 2005 - 1:04am.

Both and None. The only way to define it, is through this equation:: M=5V*m

....Yah. I have no idea. This is spam. Delete me.

Not really spam, because you're technically right, Rayne.

Hellgate, though it isn't out yet and won't be out for a while, is considered to be an FPS RPG. You're in a first-person perspective (much like a doom, or counter-strike-esque perspective, with the weapon showing), but there are several RPG qualities to the game. For example, you also have a character sheet with stats and items. You advance in levels and attain updated stats, new skills and new spells as you kill monsters for experience. Teamwork and coop play will also be key in Hellgate, as will online play (though it won't be anything MMO).

Hope that answers the question :).

So it's abit like Morrow wind? In the fact that your in a FPS perspective and you can cast spells and gain levels and abilties....except you have guns instead of the generic medievil weaponry.

Seems promising. I looked up the site and it definately looks like a game i'd buy.

To expand a bit on what Radlin said:

There's a third person view also and damage is done by dice roll rather than by object collision.

hi everyone, first post here :D

what im asking me is as follows:
hellgate is said to be a fps/rts hybrid

no the question is how many fps-related core-skills will be needed?
what about movement, aiming and the such

or is the rpg-element dominating?

im coming from fps, so it would be quite interesting to know how much fps the game will be

Welcome to WarBoards!

The game will be much more RPG than FPS... your aim and things are determined by your items and stats. There will probably be some type of enemy targeting like RPGs typically use. Skill with movement and targeting will help to a certain extent but I doubt it will be as important as a typical FPS.

It's more of a first-person RPG than it is a FPS/RPG hybrid.

Indeed so. I remember the weapons being refered to as 'Spell deployers'. So, if your skill level is good, so is your aim and strength. No headshot hunting. HG:L is taking the visual beauty of FPS and deploying it into a RPG world.

No, that was directed at xsurprisex. I guess I should have quoted him :P

I'm obviously getting it too, really looking forward to it. By the time it comes out I should be bored enough with WoW :)
