So I've gotten all my parts. Nothing special. So here's the deal:

I've gotten a new 3.0 GHz processor, Pent 4 (WAY Cheaper than an AMD of the "same quality") and have a new problem:

My fan is a TAD bit bigger than what I had. It's got four pin holes, much like my old one, except it's oversized by about a half inch to an inch. Currenlty, my processor doesn't overhead, and I've had *no* trouble with the fan. Would the new fan be what I want to put in or not?

Old processor: 1.8GHz, 512 Cache
New processor: 3.0 GHz, 2 MB Cache

Is there any way you could drill some holes in your case and put them both in? If not, I've learned the hard way that if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

BTW, quickly searching on newegg, the cheapest 3.0 ghz intel was 176$.

The comprable AMD (3000+) was 146 (not including cheaper OEM versions)

Not really a help to your actual question, but AMDs are less money, not to mention feature (IMO) better technology. If you're going on processor clock speed alone, you're not really looking at the actual performance of the chip.

Right. That's what I said. My dad's been flipping out saying "YOU HAVE TO USE THE NEW FAN OMFG LOL WTF BBQ KEKEKE ROTFLMAO BRB" the whole time. But anyways, I saw no problem with using the old one... >.>

As for the stuff I got, my parents were the ones that got it for me. They said, and I quote

"This is the best looking stuff we could get at the lowest prices."

And with that, I shut up. I told them "AMD is better, from what people tell me," and they said they looked into it. And they *did* get it off of Newegg.com. Apparently, they didn't research it enough >.>

P.S. More imput from around would be nice... Drilling holes isn't an option. It's got a Heat sink on it, and that's how it's been put in... The screws right INTO the Heat Sink... Let me get a picture really fast....

Oh it's a heat sink? Thought it was a case fan! HOnestly, it probably doesn't matter. But a heatsink isn't all that hard to put on anyways, depending on your motherboard. Just pop it on to make him happy I guess, or just say you did and don't.
