Take me back to the wayback machine! Ah, this thing's fun. Find out what sites were like when they first started, or at their time of running in 1996.

Like google: http://web.archive.org/web/19981202230410/http://www.google.com/

Or starcraft.org:

Yeah, that website is pretty cool. Intersting to see some of the old sites.

Now on a really interesting side note (atleast me, anyways), I think I stumbled upon Starcraft.org back when it had that design. I never stayed around much, but checked out some files and stuff a long, long time ago. I always thought that site was different, and it went down or something. Never frequented that site enough. Interesting to see that I'm back :)

Oh my gawd... this thing has some of my ancient personal websites I used to have up archived...

Seriously, did they like... save the entire Internet or something?! o_0

This is really interresting. Although alot of the sites I wanted to see are either completely sickening in terms of layout or werent around in 1997. But the site is pretty creative nonetheless. Nice find.

Ah, ClanWars. Too bad it no longer exists. And they didn't archive everything; I can't search for my old profile.

WK, did you read my mind, or what?

I seriously visited that same exact backup of SC.org and downloaded the entire layout...

I also checked out Blizzard and saw some screenies of SC Beta :)

And I tried DLing stuff from Camsys, but most of that is not archived.

Brood War Beta.... wow that's old! Now I wonder what secret info I can find on the Nintendo Revolution back when no one cared and it wasn't a low profile top secret system.

That ancient Blizzard page looks... so... simple...

It is however interesting to see some old sites  .

This is probably as close as anyone will get to owning the internet :)

I can see tutorials from certain sites before the sites started charging money for them! That's a serious flaw in their marketing..

Heh.

It would be interesting to see better archives though, ones that kept images fully and stuff...

It would, but that would pretty much increase the size^20 so that it wouldn't be able to archive that many that it already has.

EDIT: Kupo, broken links mean they didn't archive them, grey images means that the site put a robots.txt in their images directory so they couldn't archive them.

EDIT:

You can see who was posting in the old days. And who was online when the page was archived. Heh

The website I used to hang out at so many years (7 years ago if I remember correctly) ago is still active. Take a look.

http://www.game-revolution.com

Though there has been almost no changes to it since dUKE left some years back so that will explain the rather drab looking theme. :/
