Unbelievable,
After barely a week after that monstrous heat wave, we're getting pelted with rain. Bucketloads..continously for a week or so now..
Since having recently acquired a phone with a basic camera.. I thought I'd take some pictures.

This is the only sunshine that has been seen here in 7 days,
http://tne.250free.com/images/An_Intruder.jpg

It started simply enough... a heavy thunderstorm. The fuzzyness you see is a curtain of water. This is outside my temp offices.
http://tne.250free.com/images/More_Lake_District.jpg

It just wouldn't stop.. Night and day pouring rain.
As it continued, the the direct road to the office became (and is currently now) inundated with Knee high water. We now have to take a round about way that is 20 min longer walking (instead of the 5 minutes usually)
through water around a foot-foot and a quarter deep.

The main road outside the office.

It had rained 21 inches in the last 24 hours... around 35% of the rainfall of this area in just a week or less.Well that was it.. The authorities decided to call the an end to office since half the people couldn't get to work anyway and a Red Alert had been declared this morning or this week and the next (Meaning the Army and Navy are put on standby for rescuing people )

Now I had to take a bus ride to get back home... All trains were cancelled, and the main roads were all but gone. But thankully there is something called the national Expressway (like a freeway) that was still operational. But to find a rickshaw that was willing to take us there, we had to walk 2- 3km in deep water...

When we got onto the bus(The poor rickshaw driver burned his engine driving in first gear all the way to the bus stand) and onto the expressway, we were informed that the bridge on our side of the road around 50KM ahead had been severly damaged due to the overflowing rivers... So guess what idea the bus drivers come up with.....Go the wrong way up the expressway!!!

Some photos I took from the bus...

This was around a week ago along the same route.

And now.. roughly along the same location a bit ahead

The pavement/sidewalk in the pic below is a good foot above road level (Taken from the bus)
http://tne.250free.com/images/Sidewalk.jpg

Home on the other side of the roads were getting waterlogged as well... So people broke the divider to let some of the water flow across >.>
http://tne.250free.com/images/Homes_flooded.jpg

Finally when I got home, I read some of the headlines... 25000 people alread been rescued with more needing help. 41 dead in 3 days with more rain to come in the next 24 hours.

Everyone here who has a cell is getting a message from the government advising people to get to higher grounds warning them of increased flooding due the dams overflowing and river overflowing it's banks......

What a week this has been... and on top of it all .. I had a brief altercation with a pothole that I couldn't see due to the water

Poor TNE.

Im high and dry right now. I will be back home in less than a week, but in delhi, there are fewer chances of a flood, i think you'll agree. :)

make a few paper boats or something...stay amused!

The Day After Tommorow, anyone?

We just finished from a massive heatwave over here. Had to go to school (with no air conditioning) at 103 degrees and 90% humidity for three days in a row since the district didn't shut down. We had rolling blackouts for a week.

Sorry to hear about your weather buddy... doesn't this happen all the time during monsoon season? I dunno, I never was any good at geography... but that, as they say, is the perfect storm. 35% annual rainfall in a week is insane.

or possible a mad scientist . muhahaha.

Yes .. well I'd bet if that were the case 200,000+ relocated people would love to
get their hands on him...

Well I'm home currently and things aren't quite so bad in my locality so that's a relief at least.

They say it's the worst flooding in a decade or so, and more to come apparently...Something to do with a depression.

I guess that can get pretty bad too, relatively speaking, since you guys aren't used to such temperatures at all...

That sucks TNE. At least it's exciting, and gives you a reason to be a lazy bum, :D
Wisconsin weather is normal. Too hot in the summer, but not hot enough to stay inside (which is what I want to do), and winter is damn cold, but we dont get much more than an inch of snow and it isnt cold enough to stay home. We have good electrical systems, so we almost never get blackouts. We get about a half inch of rain every week or two, and thats it. >.<

erm.. Knee deep on the well travelled main roads in the middle.
Most of the places have 5 -6feet of water....

Now that you mention it.. some kids were doing the backstroke while we were trudging to get to our destination... that was surreal O.O

Which country are you from btw ?

Aquarian

South East Asia.Mind you I won't teelll the country I'm from.

That's why you also see that the houses are built on stilts and most of them have boats in their yards.

Yes,it does occur on annually and nearly almost every month. The first monsoon season occurs at November-February and the sencond occurs at April-June.Though the most common flood level is until you knnee like the thread says. But when it's bad,it's bad.Cars are resting and not see in parking basements.

Trackmy Ip if you can.

Well we were pretty much unprepared for this, and perhaps that's what made it so much more devastating. But yeah.. It's really bad here too, but couldn't get those pictures as I'd have to be a crackpot to try to go to those inundated areas.

Sad to hear that you experience this so frequently..

That's what it's like here when we have a hurricane. Nasty stuff, flooding is. How long do the monsoons normally last there?

Aquarian
07-03-2005, 2:16 AM
Monsoon seasons last for months.Floodings last for a day or two or more.

Additionally, I'd like to say that my thoughts go out to the victims of these floods. I hope that deaths (and damage, but this is secondary to Human lifes) will be limited to a minimum.

Hmm, sounds like what Calgary here in Alberta had just a bit ago. There was a state of emergency there was so much water. And up here in Edmonton we didn't get a drop ^_^

It stays around the mid 90s from late June to early September where I live.

Wow, the weather is just going crazy. We got our first rain for the summer a few days ago, and it was only a few inches.
