I first bought SC for 70$ when it first came out. That was quite a few month's allowance at the time. I'd saved it all up in preparation for Blizzard's new game. I'd played Warcraft1 and 2 and loved them both, not to mention Diablo, so I KNEW they would not dissappoint me.

I loved it, even if I was terrible at it.

I subsequently bought Insurrection, and Broodwars for 25$ and 35$ each when they were released.

Looking back, I wonder how I got all of that money. I'm a little poorboy. It must have been around my birthday/christmas! Regardless!!!

I've never been very good, and all attempts to fix this have... been alright. I can take on two computers of any race/combo of races relatively well with any race. I'm damned good in BGH games. I cannon rushed before I heard anyone speak of it, and learned some valuable things about the Zerg's AI (if you box in a zerg, it won't move on its tech tree. Expanding is VITAL to the Zerg's AI. At least it was back in .7) and so forth...

But I'm so inexperienced with "real" maps like lost temple, that every "true" player speaks of.

I want to become good, a contender! Any tips for how to make the transition from big money maps where theres no way I can loose unless there are 7 computers (okay, i'm stretching my cpu killing skills here, but forgive me, please?) to ladder maps?

Any feedback is welcome. Thank you!

wow exactly like me except I got starcraft half a year ago. I changed to regular maps about 3 weeks ago. I will explain to you how to do it. Well first you have to have an interest to play regular maps. This is how I did it. I got about two of my other friends and asked them if they wanted to play a regular game (they were also money map users). We played it and even though it was a 3v1 we still lost to the one computer. It seemed hopeless but I kept trying and playing the computer. After the third try we killed the computer but it tooks us 45 minutes to do so. That was when I first started to like these regular maps. From there I kept playing regular maps and now I am pretty good compared to how good I was when I play money maps. Soon I think I will be able to beat the average player. From here your going to have to ask someone else how to become better than this.

You guys should play me, I'll teach you a thing or two ;)

I got good by applying the principles of economics that I was learning in school to StarCraft.. strange, I know.

My name is Daedalus_ on USWest.

hrm, i just might ;)

still, in SC/BW, does the area you live in/connect to matter? In d2 i know it does, but they just recently in comparison put up the connection settings with the various areas in BW... does that mean what it means in D2? :(

well, theres some strategies and tactics in starcraft.org that u can check out. that could help u out a little. theres alot too, it'll take u a long time to read them all. but the main thing u want to do is build fast. i know, every body knows that. but, u do have to be fast.

Hey fellow Oregonian!

There's a program called BWCoach that runs during your game and spells out various build orders for you to try: http://www.bwchart.net/
