everytime i try to install starcraft onto my notebook PC, it will only install as far as the map (4) Lost Civilization! after that, the installation freezes but my computer doesnt. ive let it sit there for about an hour and a half with no response. can anyone help me?!?! like a patch or something? any help at all would be much appreciated. thanks in advance

If the installation is failling in the same place, then your CD is most likely damaged. Trying using a friend's CD to install it (using your CD key), or buy another copy about about $10.

I also had this problem, but with Brood War. It stopped installing when it reached some maps. So I cancelled it, but I can still play Brood War, I just don't have those maps it didn't install.

Hehe, yeah that's your problem.
My SC CD is so bad that any time i have to reinstall SC so i can upgrade to BW.. I cringe through the whole installation.. takes a while since it's a tad scratched up. ;)

aj maybe you should make a backup to your cd. That way the one you use now may ge worse each time you play but you will always have the backup incase.

My CD drive doesn't work, dammit. I can't finish that custom now, which majorly annoys me.

problem solved! it turns out it wasn't my starcraft cd, it was my cd drive. the default on my computer was set to warn me if there was anything on a disk that wasn't supposed to be there. whatever. if you are reading this and have the same problem heres what i did: i opened the control panel. then i opened up the system folder. from there i clicked on the hardware tab. then onto driver signing. three choices then pop up: ignore, warn, block. i simply chose ignore, and then i was able to install starcraft. no problem!

Who said back it up, create an image using Alchohol 120% and you can put it on your netdrive.
that'll be a backup for the whole LAN
